Abstract The Mediterranean Sea represents an area of elevated risk of extinction for sharks, where data deficiency is a pervasive problem. To compensate for such a paucity of information, this study investigated the use of social media content as a complementary approach to evaluate the distribution and habitat use of the Critically Endangered blue shark Prionace glauca in coastal waters, as well as public perceptions of the sharks. Through social media data mining a total of 146 records, comprising 158 individual blue sharks approaching Italian coastal waters, have been recorded from 2011 to 2020. This study revealed that, over the past decade, blue sharks regularly visited Italian coastal habitats for extended periods of time. Differences in the temporal distribution of blue sharks by sex and size appear to be linked to reproductive activity. The higher number of adult females approaching the shore in spring and the increase in young‐of‐the‐year (YOY) sightings in the following months possibly indicate parturition in coastal waters. Spatial analyses also showed that certain Italian coastal areas, such as those in Calabria and Puglia, were preferred coastal habitats for this species. Results also indicate that social media platforms can be considered an ever‐growing source of data on wildlife, which can shed light on the occurrence and distribution of endangered shark species in poorly known habitats. Furthermore, social media platforms should be used for awareness campaigns to educate the public, as this study showed that negative reactions to shark encounters remain widespread

Grain size reduction strategies on Eurofer

One of the options currently taken into account for the realization of the first DEMO reactor is the "water-cooled blanket". This option implies a minimum irradiation temperature for the blanket material in the range of 280–350 °C. In addition to the DBTT (Ductile to Brittle Transition Temperature) shift due to the DPA (displacement per atom) damage under irradiation, also the issue of the increased embrittlement due to He production must be taken into account. This issue appears even more detrimental and less manageable because the DBBT shift due to the Helium production does not saturate with the dose, as it results from previous works reported in literature. The experimental results and the difference in behaviour between ODS (Oxide Dispersion Strengthened Steels) RAFM (Reduced Activation Ferritic Martensitic) and other FM (Ferritic Martensitic) alloys (EM10, P91) showed that it is possible to improve the resistance to He embrittlement by both intra-granular precipitation of Y-Ti oxides and by decreasing the grain size at the same time. Nevertheless, anyway, the multiplication of the grain boundaries increases the dilution of He on grain surface, delaying the formation of He bubbles on grain boundaries and, therefore, the susceptibility to the He embrittlement. Several grain size reduction strategies have then been investigated on EUROFER both at the austenitization stage, on the PAGS (Prior Austenite Grain Size), and at the tempering stage, on the tempered martensite. The microstructural observations have been carried out by means of SEM (Scanning Electron Microscopy). Also the effect of grain size reduction on the toughness of the material will be taken into account; The DBTTs resulting from impact tests on KLST specimens will be shown. The outcomes of the microstructural observations, as well as the preliminary mechanical characterization (impact tests) will be discussed in this paper. Keywords: EUROFER 97, RAFM steels, Microstructure, Multiple normalization, Asymmetric rolling, Recrystallization, KLS

The paper recounts the experience of two female researchers in a high school in the prov-ince of Pisa, which is characterized from a mission centered on the active citizen. The scope of intervention is to increase the sense of collective identity of the school by involving the various actors with an eye on the improvement of the school. The aim of the research was to develop awareness and action for change within the organization according to the guide-lines of Global Citizenship Education. During the nominal group with teachers, students and parents and the interviews with the Principals and the DSGA, the participants were asked to associate words describing the school according to their point of view; later they were invited to reflect on the mission described in the PTOF (Three-year training plan) and on how to act to make it operative. The sharing of results as a final moment was a crucial action to increase the level of knowledge within the school, the sense of empowerment of the actors and awareness of their own context

In the frame of the University classroom on Multimedia research methods, providing Continuing Professional Development opportunities for teachers, trainees were asked to record one lesson that they would typically perform and analyze it against a specific protocol, named Evident, which encompasses several steps and tools. The theoretical frameworks this action-research activity draws on are the School Effectiveness Approach by Creemers and Kyriakides, the Visible Learning work by Hattie and the Lesson Study practice, mainly used in Asian countries. After analyzing their video against a dedicated self-assessment Grid, thanks to the Radar Builder tool teachers visualized their positioning in a diagram helping them to understand which areas were to be improved in order to make their teaching more effective. A further step was to peer review the work of one colleague, but just for those who volunteered to do so.

Within the University course ‘Multimedia research methods’ addressing CPD for teachers, trainees were asked to record their typical lesson and to analyze it according to a specific protocol, called Evident, encompassing several tools. The theoretical frameworks inspiring this action-research approach are the School Effectiveness Approach by B. Creemers and L. Kyriakides, ‘Visible Learning’ by Hattie and the Lesson Study practice, mainly used in Asian countries. After analyzing their videos, teachers would visualize their positioning in a radar diagram helping them to understand what factors should be improved in order to carry out an effective lesson. Furthermore, teachers were asked to peer review the work of one other colleagues. This resulted in a very powerful exercise to improve and better plan an effective classroom lesson. The paper provides a detailed description of the methodology employed, the corresponding tools and the analysis of the main results coming from the pilot. The three empirical papers of this thesis inspect the relationship between manufacturing firms profitability and the territories in which they are located. The first and the second paper focus on the Italian case whereas the third one extends the analysis to the Great Britain and proposes a comparative study between the two countries. The data used are from different sources: AIDA and FAME datasets for firm level data; OECD, Italian and British national offices for statistics, and former empirical contributes for territory classifications. Overall, about 70.000 Italian manufacturing firms and about 135.000 British manufacturing companies have been taken into account. The first paper explores a topic characterising Italian manufacturing industry: industrial districts. The paper proposes an original reading of the transformations taking place in Italian industrial districts through the analysis of the so-called district effect and its measure in specific firm subset. The second paper analyses the impact exerted by localisation on firm profitability through a more detailed classification of Italian territory including urban areas and territories with manufacturing specialisation. Results suggest an original perspective of territories characteristics that are able to sustain firm profitability. The third paper analyses British manufacturing companies. The geographical distribution of these firms appears quite dissimilar from the Italian one. Nevertheless, in terms of impact of localization on firm profitability, interesting analogies between the two countries emerge. The three contributions confirm the relevance of territories in terms of impact on manufacturing firm profitability. Furthermore, they provide evidences for understanding the underlying economic determinants and for supporting policy-making
