Trans-[FMo{NN=CH(5ÂŽ-R-thienyl)}(dppe)2][BF4] (R = OMe and OEt) and trans[FMo{NN=CH(5’-R-2,2’-bithienyl)}(dppe)2][BF4] (R = OMe, OEt and O(iPr)) were synthesised in good yields by reacting 2-formyl-5-alkoxylthiophenes and 5-formyl-5’-alkoxy-2,2-’bithiophenes respectively, with hydrazido(2-) complex, trans-[MoF(NNH2)(dppe)2][BF4]. The electrochemical, spectroscopic and solvatochromic properties of these compounds were studied. These results suggest that efficient π conjugated systems were obtained due to the low energy charge transfer between the metal and the heterocyclic moieties.Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e a Tecnologia (FCT

Synthesis of new fluorescent 2-(2’, 2’’-bithienyl)-1,3-benzothiazoles

Bithienyl-1,3-benzothiazole derivatives were synthesised by reacting various 5-formyl-5’-alkoxy- or 5-formyl-5’-N,N-dialkylamino-2,2’-bithiophenes with ortho-aminobenzenethiol in good to excellent yields. Evaluation of the fluorescence properties of these compounds was carried out. They show strong fluorescence in the 450-600 nm region, as well as high quantum yields and large Stokes’ shifts.Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e Tecnologia

Molybdenum complexes bearing thiophenic or- arylthiophenic groups : synthesis, electrochemical, spectroscopic and nonlinear optical properties

    Get PDF
A series of complexes trans-[FMo(N=NCHL)(dppe)2][BF4] (L = (bi)thienyl or arylthienyl), were synthesized and fully characterized by 1H, 13C, 31P NMR, IR and UV–Vis spectroscopies. The electronic spectra and electrochemical behavior of the complexes were investigated. The electronic absorption spectra of these complexes display a broad low-energy band in the visible region attributable to metal-to ligand charge transfer (MLCT) transitions. The electron conjugated effect with the heterocyclic nucleus led to a notable improvement of visible light absorption and marked changes in the electrochemical behavior. The hyperpolarizabilities beta of the synthesized compounds were evaluated using the hyper-Rayleigh scattering technique.Fundação para a CiĂȘncia e a Tecnologia (FCT

Service Marketing Problems and Strategies: Evidence from Business Consultants in Emerging Markets

    No full text
Aim: The purpose of this study is to create new insights for service marketing in emerging markets by investigating the applicability of the literature on problems (that stem from the unique characteristics of services) that occur during the service marketing process of business consulting companies, and the strategies to cope with these problems. Additionally, this paper intends to elucidate the extent to which the position on the emerging market spectrum was related to the problems (that stem from the unique characteristics of services) during the service marketing process, and the strategies to cope with these problems.Master Thesis Kevin Siemons &amp; Henrik Steybe</p

Impact of Housing Condition on Welfare and Behavior of Immunocastrated Fattening Pigs (<i>Sus scrofa domestica</i>)

    No full text
The aim of this study was to investigate whether the well-known positive effects of immunocastration on the behavior and welfare of pigs persist under varying environments. One hundred forty-four male pigs were studied with regard to their sex category (EM: entire males, IC: immunocastrates, BA: barrows) and housing environment (ENR: enriched, STD: standard, MIX: repeated social mixing). The vaccination of immunocastrates included two injections at the age of 12 and 22 weeks. Regardless of the housing conditions, frequencies of sexual and fighting behavior expressed by immunocastrates shifted from boar-like to barrow-like behavior after the second immunocastration vaccination (Mixed model analysis, p p = 0.036) and penile injuries were lower in IC animals compared to EM (Mixed model analysis, p p p < 0.05). The positive effects of immunocastration thus are robust to all housing conditions assessed in this study
