Energy-Momentum Tensor of Cosmological Fluctuations during Inflation
We study the renormalized energy-momentum tensor (EMT) of cosmological scalar
fluctuations during the slow-rollover regime for chaotic inflation with a
quadratic potential and find that it is characterized by a negative energy
density which grows during slow-rollover. We also approach the back-reaction
problem as a second-order calculation in perturbation theory finding no
evidence that the back-reaction of cosmological fluctuations is a gauge
artifact. In agreement with the results on the EMT, the average expansion rate
is decreased by the back-reaction of cosmological fluctuations.Comment: 19 pages, no figures.An appendix and references added, conclusions

Jury deliberation: An observation study.
In this article, the way that the jury works is considered from a
group-analytic perspective. Observational fieldwork of simulated
jury deliberations is presented. The data was gathered from a joint
funded Home Office and Law Commission project at the Socio-
Legal Studies Centre, Oxford in 1995. Inferences are drawn from the
observations and the unconscious group processes are considered.

Improved Estimates of Cosmological Perturbations
We recently derived exact solutions for the scalar, vector and tensor mode
functions of a single, minimally coupled scalar plus gravity in an arbitrary
homogeneous and isotropic background. These solutions are applied to obtain
improved estimates for the primordial scalar and tensor power spectra of

The dual-acting chemotherapeutic agent Alchemix induces cell death independently of ATM and p53
YesTopoisomerase inhibitors are in common use as chemotherapeutic agents although they can display reduced efficacy in chemotherapy-resistant tumours, which have inactivated DNA damage response (DDR) genes, such as ATM and TP53. Here, we characterise the cellular response to the dual-acting agent, Alchemix (ALX), which is a modified anthraquinone that functions as a topoisomerase inhibitor as well as an alkylating agent. We show that ALX induces a robust DDR at nano-molar concentrations and this is mediated primarily through ATR- and DNA-PK- but not ATM-dependent pathways, despite DNA double strand breaks being generated after prolonged exposure to the drug. Interestingly, exposure of epithelial tumour cell lines to ALX in vitro resulted in potent activation of the G2/M checkpoint, which after a prolonged arrest, was bypassed allowing cells to progress into mitosis where they ultimately died by mitotic catastrophe. We also observed effective killing of lymphoid tumour cell lines in vitro following exposure to ALX, although, in contrast, this tended to occur via activation of a p53-independent apoptotic pathway. Lastly, we validate the effectiveness of ALX as a chemotherapeutic agent in vivo by demonstrating its ability to cause a significant reduction in tumour cell growth, irrespective of TP53 status, using a mouse leukaemia xenograft model. Taken together, these data demonstrate that ALX, through its dual action as an alkylating agent and topoisomerase inhibitor, represents a novel anti-cancer agent that could be potentially used clinically to treat refractory or relapsed tumours, particularly those harbouring mutations in DDR genes
A two-part seabed geomorphology classification scheme : (v.2). Part 1 : morphology features glossary
This report updates the âTwo-part Seabed Geomorphology classification schemeâ of Dove et al. (2016) and
presents a new glossary (Part 1) of Seabed Morphology features. This Morphology glossary is intended to
provide marine scientists with a robust and consistent way to characterise the seabed. Each glossary entry
includes a feature definition and a representative schematic diagram to support clear and accurate
classification. Feature terms and definitions are primarily drawn from the International Hydrographic
Organization (IHO) guide for undersea feature names, which are herein modified and augmented with
additional terms to ensure the final feature catalogue and glossary encompasses the diversity of
morphologies observed at the seabed, while also minimising duplication and/or ambiguity. This updated
classification system and new glossary are the result of a collaboration between marine geoscientists from
marine mapping programmes/networks in Norway (MAREANO), Ireland (INFOMAR), UK (MAREMAP), and
Australia (Geoscience Australia) (MIM-GA). A subsequent report will present the (Part 2) Geomorphology

Template-stripped gold surfaces with 0.4 nm rms roughness suitable for force measurements. Application to the Casimir force in the 20-100 nm range
Using a template-stripping method, macroscopic gold surfaces with
root-mean-square (rms) roughness less than 0.4 nm have been prepared, making
them useful for studies of surface interactions in the nanometer range. The
utility of such substrates is demonstrated by measurements of the Casimir force
at surface separations between 20 and 100 nm, resulting in good agreement with
theory. The significance and quantification of this agreement is addressed, as
well as some methodological aspects regarding the measurement of the Casimir
force with high accuracy.Comment: 7 figure
Exploring leadership in multi-sectoral partnerships
This article explores some critical aspects of leadership in the context of multi-sectoral partnerships. It focuses on leadership in practice and asks the question, `How do managers experience and perceive leadership in such partnerships?' The study contributes to the debate on whether leadership in a multi-sectoral partnership context differs from that within a single organization. It is based on the accounts of practising managers working in complex partnerships. The article highlights a number of leadership challenges faced by those working in multi-sectoral partnerships. Partnership practitioners were clear that leadership in partnerships was more complex than in single organizations. However, it was more difficult for them to agree a consensus on the essential nature of leadership in partnership. We suggest that a first-, second- and third-person approach might be a way of better interpreting leadership in the context of partnerships
Development of understanding in hydro-climate services in India to inform food and water security
This project aims to improve understanding of hydro-climate services in India in order to inform food and water security. It involves collaboration between UCL and the Centre for Ecology and Hydrology (CEH) in the UK and the National Institute of Hydrology (NIH), Roorkee and Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Bombay in India. This report is structured around the three main themes of the project: catchment hydrological modelling, assessment of environmental flows under climate change, and a feasibility study to assess the potential of developing guidance for India similar to that of the Flood Estimation Handbook for the UK
Class switching and meiotic defects in mice lacking the E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF8
53BP1 is a well-known mediator of the cellular response to DNA damage. Two alternative mechanisms have been proposed to explain 53BP1âs interaction with DNA double-strand breaks (DSBs), one by binding to methylated histones and the other via an RNF8 E3 ligaseâdependent ubiquitylation pathway. The formation of RNF8 and 53BP1 irradiation-induced foci are both dependent on histone H2AX. To evaluate the contribution of the RNF8-dependent pathway to 53BP1 function, we generated RNF8 knockout mice. We report that RNF8 deficiency results in defective class switch recombination (CSR) and accumulation of unresolved immunoglobulin heavy chainâassociated DSBs. The CSR DSB repair defect is milder than that observed in the absence of 53BP1 but similar to that found in H2AXâ/â mice. Moreover, similar to H2AX but different from 53BP1 deficiency, RNF8â/â males are sterile, and this is associated with defective ubiquitylation of the XY chromatin. Combined loss of H2AX and RNF8 does not cause further impairment in CSR, demonstrating that the two genes function epistatically. Importantly, although 53BP1 foci formation is RNF8 dependent, its binding to chromatin is preserved in the absence of RNF8. This suggests a two-step mechanism for 53BP1 association with chromatin in which constitutive loading is dependent on interactions with methylated histones, whereas DNA damageâinducible RNF8-dependent ubiquitylation allows its accumulation at damaged chromatin
