Nanometer-scale capacitors

Molecular dynamics computer simulations which employ the embedded-atom potential show that nanowires of gold exist as multishelled structures. We simulate double-walled gold nanowires and calculate the capacitance of a finite nanometer-size cylindrical capacitor. For the sizes for which multishelled nanowires appear in simulations we find the capacitances below one attofarad.Comment: 2 ps and 1 jpg figure

Poesía latina sobre el terremoto de Dubrovnik de 1667: un caso de diplomacia literaria

The article presents three neo-Latin hexametrical poems dealing with the earthquake which devastated the Ragusan Republic (Dubrovnik) in 1667: De laudibus serenissimae reipublicae Venetae et cladibus patriae suae carmen (Venetiis 1675, 21676) by Stjepan Gradic (1613-1683), Proseucticon de terraemotu, quo Epidaurus in Dalmatia anno 1667 prostrata est, ad Cosmum III Etruriae ducem (Romae 1690, Monachii 21695) by Benedikt Rogacic (1646-1719) and a part of the epic Philosophiae versibus traditae libri VI (Venetiis 1744) by Benedikt Stay (1714-1801). The structure of the three poems is analyzed and their common elements, topics and similarities in their compositions revealed. The analysis shows that Stay used Rogacic’s poem as his direct source, about twenty percent of Stay’s text being a paraphrase of Rogacic’s hexameters. Some rhetorical details of the pragmatic passages of two older texts are analyzed – the praise of the addressees in order to receive financial aid from them for the restoration of the Republic.En el artículo se presentan tres textos hexamétricos neolatinos que tratan el tema del terremoto que devastó la República de Ragusa (Dubrovnik) en 1667: De laudibus serenissimae reipublicae Venetae et cladibus patriae suae carmen (Venetiis 1675, 21676) de Stjepan Gradic (1613-1683), Proseucticon de terraemotu, quo Epidaurus in Dalmatia anno 1667 prostrata est, ad Cosmum III Etruriae ducem (Romae 1690, Monachii 21695) de Benedikt Rogacic (1646-1719) y una parte de la epopeya Philosophiae versibus traditae libri VI (Venetiis 1744) de Benedikt Stay (1714-1801). Se analiza la estructura de los tres poemas y se identifican sus elementos y motivos comunes, así como las semejanzas de la composición. El análisis muestra que Stay usó el poema de Rogacic como fuente directa (el 20% del texto de Stay es paráfrasis de los hexámetros de Rogacic). Asimismo, se analizan los pormenores de los fragmentos pragmáticos de los dos textos más antiguos, la alabanza de los destinatarios para recibir de ellos ayuda financiera para la reconstrucción de la República de Ragusa

SOCIAL EQUIVALENT OF FREE ENERGY

Characterisation of unbounded resources of a social system within the sociological interpretation has resulted in a large number of different notions, which are relevant in different situations. From the view point of statistical mechanics, these notions resemble free energy. In this paper the concept of social free energy is introduced and first steps toward its development presented. The social free energy is a function equal to physical free energy appropriately determined for the social system, with intrinsically sociological interpretation as a measure of social action obtainable in a given social system without changes in its structure. Its construction is a consequence of response of a social system to recognised parts of environment dynamics. MUSICAL COMPOSITION AND ELEMENTARY EXCITATIONS OF THE ENVIRONMENT

During the performance of a musical composition a special human environment comes into being. We aim to interpret the compositions as a specific class of human environment in order to utilise that for description of structure and dynamics of general human environment. In particular, we analysed four Bach's fugas considering their motifs and introducing the concept of the energy of a motif. We used bosonic excitations from theoretical physics as an analogical starting point for this concept, with the aim of proposing a new way to shed light onto more complex human environments. Quality Assurance: Evaluation and Certification of Humanitarian Demining Detection Equipment

An extensive number of humanitarian demining detection equipment (HDDE) in the development phase requires a well-established set of testing facilities. A combination of enthusiastic and scientific testing exists throughout the majority of these facilities. During the last several years, the process of humanitarian demining (HD) in Croatia has begun under the intense effort of the Croatian Mine Action Center and other institutions. The success in starting and performing the clearance of various mine-affected regions was a combination of mechanical demining and a systematic approach. Mechanical demining has given good results on the agricultural terrain and in the fields of homogeneous soil compositions with smooth surfaces. In other situations, where the terrain is impenetrable, the pyrotechnicians have conducted manual demining. Manual demining, however, is a risky task that requires more time and results in more victims

La nueva conexión ferrovial Paraná-Santa Fe: impacto económico y financiero sobre el Túnel Subfluvial Uranga-Silvestre Begnis y problemática contable

Este trabajo de investigación realizado en la Facultad de Ciencias Económicas de la UNER ha surgido orientado a determinar el impacto institucional, económico-financiero y social que tendrá sobre el funcionamiento del Túnel Subfluvial, la construcción del nuevo Puente ferrovial entre las ciudades de Paraná y Santa Fe; ya que el Túnel se transformaría en una especie de camino vecinal debido a que su uso se encontraría reducido. El Sector público presta servicios a la sociedad que el mercado por sí solo no podría prestar, como la educación, la salud o un servicio de conexión vial. El Estado se basa en el Presupuesto Público, por lo que debe tener en cuenta cuál es la demanda de servicios públicos indivisibles que la comunidad requiere para lograr el bien común. Adicionalmente, cabe considerar que esta Obra de Infraestructura es generadora de ingresos, por un lado directos, porque tienen identificación con el oneroso servicio de posibilitar el paso que brinda, y por otro lado intangibles, respecto de los cuales es difícil la asignación de un valor numérico, como el efecto aportado sobre el paisaje o la provisión de una vía de comunicación ágil a bajo costo de acceso. Para ello se requiere considerar diferentes indicadores que permiten medir dicho impacto. Existe una vasta producción teórica referida al tema centrado en el análisis de los recursos y costos los cuales pueden ser evaluados con indicadores tales como el Valor Actual Neto, la Tasa Interna de Retorno o la relación Beneficio Costo que permitirán medir la nueva situación. No obstante este análisis parece no resolver los aspectos vinculados a la caracterización del ambiente de referencia, sobre todos los aspectos institucionales y organizativos, debido a la multiplicidad de dimensiones que constituyen el ambiente en el que opera la intervención y se percibe la necesidad de centrar el esfuerzo analítico en identificar, cualificar y dimensionar los cambios generados o inducidos en ese ambiente, en un periodo de tiempo. Con ello se traslada la centralidad del análisis de los resultados (materialidad de lo producido) hacia el análisis de las transformaciones del espacio multidimensional que resulta así alterado llevando a la necesidad de identificar, analizar y aplicar metodologías de evaluación apropiadas para proyectos que procuran múltiples objetivos. Ello constituye un desafío extra al análisis del impacto económico financiero que se intentará abordar en el trabajo. Por otro lado, es de destacar que la construcción del Puente que unirá ambas Provincias, pretende contratarse a través de la novedosa figura del Contrato de Participación Público Privada; sistema nuevo en el ámbito de las contrataciones tanto nacionales como provinciales; que conlleva la necesidad de análisis de la problemática en cuanto a su tratamiento y registración contable; lo que intentaremos dejar planteado en el presente trabajo.Tema 2: Teoría contable.
