Rho primes in analyzing e+e- annihilation, MARK III, LASS and ARGUS data
The results of an analysis are presented of some recent data on the reactions
, with the
subtracted events, , , , , the decays
,
, upon taking into account both the strong energy
dependence of the partial widths on energy and the previously neglected mixing
of the type resonances. The above effects are shown to exert an
essential influence on the specific values of masses and coupling constants of
heavy resonances and hence are necessary to be accounted for in establishing
their true nature.Comment: 20 pages, ReVTeX, 9 Postscript figures As compared to hep-ph/9607398,

Electromagnetic form factors in the J/\psi mass region: The case in favor of additional resonances
Using the results of our recent analysis of e^+e^- annihilation, we plot the
curves for the diagonal and transition form factors of light hadrons in the
time-like region up to the production threshold of an open charm quantum
number. The comparison with existing data on the decays of J/\psi into such
hadrons shows that some new resonance structures may be present in the mass
range between 2 GeVand the J/\psi mass. Searching them may help in a better
understanding of the mass spectrum in both the simple and a more sophisticated
quark models, and in revealing the details of the three-gluon mechanism of the
OZI rule breaking in K\bar K channel.Comment: Formulas are added, typo is corrected, the text is rearranged.

Prospect for Charge Current Neutrino Interactions Measurements at the CERN-PS
Tensions in several phenomenological models grew with experimental results on
neutrino/antineutrino oscillations at Short-Baseline (SBL) and with the recent,
carefully recomputed, antineutrino fluxes from nuclear reactors. At a
refurbished SBL CERN-PS facility an experiment aimed to address the open issues
has been proposed [1], based on the technology of imaging in ultra-pure
cryogenic Liquid Argon (LAr). Motivated by this scenario a detailed study of
the physics case was performed. We tackled specific physics models and we
optimized the neutrino beam through a full simulation. Experimental aspects not
fully covered by the LAr detection, i.e. the measurements of the lepton charge
on event-by-event basis and their energy over a wide range, were also
investigated. Indeed the muon leptons from Charged Current (CC) (anti-)neutrino
interactions play an important role in disentangling different phenomenological
scenarios provided their charge state is determined. Also, the study of muon
appearance/disappearance can benefit of the large statistics of CC muon events
from the primary neutrino beam. Results of our study are reported in detail in
this proposal. We aim to design, construct and install two Spectrometers at
"NEAR" and "FAR" sites of the SBL CERN-PS, compatible with the already proposed
LAr detectors. Profiting of the large mass of the two Spectrometers their
stand-alone performances have also been exploited.Comment: 70 pages, 38 figures. Proposal submitted to SPS-C, CER
Measurement of the cross-section ratio sigma_{psi(2S)}/sigma_{J/psi(1S)} in deep inelastic exclusive ep scattering at HERA
The exclusive deep inelastic electroproduction of and
at an centre-of-mass energy of 317 GeV has been studied with the ZEUS
detector at HERA in the kinematic range GeV,
GeV and GeV, where is the photon virtuality, is the
photon-proton centre-of-mass energy and is the squared four-momentum
transfer at the proton vertex. The data for GeV were taken in
the HERA I running period and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 114
pb. The data for GeV are from both HERA I and HERA II
periods and correspond to an integrated luminosity of 468 pb. The decay
modes analysed were and for the

models of exclusive vector-meson production.Comment: 24 pages, 8 figure
Background free search for neutrinoless double beta decay with GERDA Phase II
The Standard Model of particle physics cannot explain the dominance of matter
over anti-matter in our Universe. In many model extensions this is a very
natural consequence of neutrinos being their own anti-particles (Majorana
particles) which implies that a lepton number violating radioactive decay named
neutrinoless double beta () decay should exist. The detection
of this extremely rare hypothetical process requires utmost suppression of any
kind of backgrounds.
The GERDA collaboration searches for decay of Ge
(^{76}\rm{Ge} \rightarrow\,^{76}\rm{Se} + 2e^-) by operating bare detectors
made from germanium with enriched Ge fraction in liquid argon. Here, we
report on first data of GERDA Phase II. A background level of
cts/(keVkgyr) has been achieved which is the world-best if
weighted by the narrow energy-signal region of germanium detectors. Combining
Phase I and II data we find no signal and deduce a new lower limit for the
half-life of yr at 90 % C.L. Our sensitivity of
yr is competitive with the one of experiments with
significantly larger isotope mass.
GERDA is the first experiment that will be background-free
up to its design exposure. This progress relies on a novel active veto system,
the superior germanium detector energy resolution and the improved background
recognition of our new detectors. The unique discovery potential of an
essentially background-free search for decay motivates a
larger germanium experiment with higher sensitivity.Comment: 14 pages, 9 figures, 1 table; ; data, figures and images available at

Combined QCD and electroweak analysis of HERA data
A simultaneous fit of parton distribution functions (PDFs) and electroweak
parameters to HERA data on deep inelastic scattering is presented. The input
data are the neutral current and charged current inclusive cross sections which
were previously used in the QCD analysis leading to the HERAPDF2.0 PDFs. In
addition, the polarisation of the electron beam was taken into account for the
ZEUS data recorded between 2004 and 2007. Results on the vector and
axial-vector couplings of the Z boson to u- and d-type quarks, on the value of
the electroweak mixing angle and the mass of the W boson are presented. The
values obtained for the electroweak parameters are in agreement with Standard
Model predictions.Comment: 32 pages, 10 figures, accepted by Phys. Rev. D. Small corrections

Limits on the effective quark radius from inclusive scattering at HERA
The high-precision HERA data allows searches up to TeV scales for Beyond the
Standard Model contributions to electron-quark scattering. Combined
measurements of the inclusive deep inelastic cross sections in neutral and
charged current scattering corresponding to a luminosity of around 1
fb have been used in this analysis. A new approach to the beyond the
Standard Model analysis of the inclusive data is presented; simultaneous
fits of parton distribution functions together with contributions of "new
physics" processes were performed. Results are presented considering a finite
radius of quarks within the quark form-factor model. The resulting 95% C.L.
upper limit on the effective quark radius is cm.Comment: 10 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys. Lett.
Search for a narrow baryonic state decaying to and in deep inelastic scattering at HERA
A search for a narrow baryonic state in the and
system has been performed in collisions at HERA with the ZEUS detector
using an integrated luminosity of 358 pb taken in 2003-2007. The search
was performed with deep inelastic scattering events at an centre-of-mass
energy of 318 GeV for exchanged photon virtuality, , between 20 and 100
. Contrary to evidence presented for such a state around 1.52
GeV in a previous ZEUS analysis using a sample of 121 pb taken in
1996-2000, no resonance peak was found in the invariant-mass
distribution in the range 1.45-1.7 GeV. Upper limits on the production cross
section are set.Comment: 16 pages, 4 figures, accepted by Phys. Lett. B. Minor changes from

Limits on uranium and thorium bulk content in GERDA Phase I detectors
Internal contaminations of U, U and Th in the bulk of
high purity germanium detectors are potential backgrounds for experiments
searching for neutrinoless double beta decay of Ge. The data from GERDA
Phase~I have been analyzed for alpha events from the decay chain of these
contaminations by looking for full decay chains and for time correlations
between successive decays in the same detector. No candidate events for a full
chain have been found. Upper limits on the activities in the range of a few
nBq/kg for Ra, Ac and Th, the long-lived daughter
nuclides of U, U and Th, respectively, have been
derived. With these upper limits a background index in the energy region of
interest from Ra and Th contamination is estimated which
satisfies the prerequisites of a future ton scale germanium double beta decay
experiment.Comment: 2 figures, 7 page
