Fly ash vitrification as the effective physico-chemical waste stabilization method

In this paper, the physico-chemical stabilization method of electrical power plant fly ash of the Province of Lodz in central Poland was studied. The chemical composition and leachability of metals were determined in the investigated samples. The ashes were vitrified in a thermal plasma process and their chemical stability was tested to determine whether the ashes can be disposed safely into the environment, specifically onto surface soil. The heavy metal leachability tests proved that the products after vitrification were more stable than non-vitrified waste making it more suitable for disposal into the environment

Transcendencja osoby ludzkiej w refleksji filozoficznej kardynała Karola Wojtyły

In the article the concept of the transcendence of the human person worked out by cardinal Karol Wojtyla is presented. The supremacy of human activity over activity of other beings is expressed in it. It manifests itself, according to Karol Wojtyla, in performing free, spiritual cognitive and appetitive acts. The description of transcendence accentuates the phenomenology of the human act as a cognitive and volitional act. The ultimate internal rationality of the person’s transcendence is, according to Wojtyla, their spirituality.Artykuł przedstawia koncepcje transcendencji osoby wypracowaną przez Karola Wojtyłę. Wyraża się w niej wyższość ludzkiego działania nad aktywnością innych istot. Według Wojtyły przejawia się ona w spełnianiu wolnych duchowych aktów poznawczych i pożądawczych. Opis transcendencji akcentuje fenomenologię czynu ludzkiego jako czynu poznawczego i wolitywnego. Ostateczną, wewnętrzną racją transcendencji osoby według Wojtyły jest jej duchowość

Rabat retroaktywny a tzw. opłata półkowa: potrzeba racjonalizacji

Artykuł podejmuje zagadnienie konstruowania w orzecznictwie zarzutów pobierania tzw. opłaty półkowej w przypadku stosowania przez sieci handlowe rabatów odnoszących się do obrotu osiąganego w przyszłości (retroaktywnych rabatów obrotowych). Regulujący kwestię pobierania innych niż marża handlowa opłat za przyjęcie towaru do sprzedaży art. 15 ust. 1 pkt 4 ustawy o zwalczaniu nieuczciwej konkurencji (uznk) jest przepisem wymagającym interpretacji pojęć z dziedziny ekonomii, czego w orzeczeniach sądowych niejednokrotnie brakuje. Przepis ten, bez żadnego umocowania ustawowego, w odniesieniu do rabatów retroaktywnych pełni funkcje korektora ceny dostawy w wyłącznym interesie małych dostawców. Dominująca w sądach wykładnia o charakterze „socjalnym” może stanowić zaporę dla stosowania typowych dla wolnorynkowej gospodarki mechanizmów kształtowania cen. Sytuacja ta będzie niekorzystnie wpływać na dobro nabywców, w tym konsumentów, chronione w art. 1 uznk. Potrzebna jest co najmniej racjonalizacja wykładni art. 15 ust. 1 pkt 4 uznk; wskazane byłoby także podjęcie prac legislacyjnych w kierunku zmiany tego przepisu

Biodegradation of 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid by Phanerochaete chrysosporium

Despite intensive efforts put on prevention of environment pollution by nitroaromatic compounds, these xenobiotics have not been eliminated from the biosphere. The physicochemical properties make nitroaromatics extremely recalcitrant to biodegradation. Therefore, microbial degraders of these pollutants are sought after. This paper reports preliminary results of the study on degradation of 3,5-dinitrosalicylic acid (DNS) by a basidiomycetous fungus Phanerochaete chrysosporium under stationary conditions in a culture medium containing 0.05–0.5% v/v of DNS. The results obtained suggest that the fungus degrades DNS through the reductive pathway

Umowa o przyłączenie do sieci ciepłowniczej w świetle prawa ochrony konkurencji i konsumentów

Artykuł przedstawia zagadnienie zawierania umów o przyłączenie do sieci ciepłowniczej z perspektywy prawa ochrony konkurencji i konsumentów. Omówiono obowiązki spoczywające na przedsiębiorstwie energetycznym, przede wszystkim obowiązek przyłączenia do sieci ciepłowniczej nowych odbiorców. Kluczową kwestią przedstawioną w artykule jest rozkład ryzyka pomiędzy przedsiębiorstwem ciepłowniczym i przyłączanym podmiotem, jeżeli pierwotne zamierzenia inwestora, w szczególności dewelopera, okazują się niewykonalne. Nadmierne zabezpieczenie się przedsiębiorstwa ciepłowniczego na taką okoliczność może skutkować zarzutem nadużycia pozycji dominującej, a próba przerzucenia ryzyka na odbiorców – konsumentów, zarzutem naruszenia zbiorowych interesów konsumentów. Trudno jednak oczekiwać od przedsiębiorstwa ciepłowniczego, aby przejęło na siebie całość ryzyka inwestycyjnego związanego z nowymi przyłączeniami. Wyważenie właściwych proporcji pomiędzy sprzecznymi interesami stron powinno być kształtowane poprzez rozwój orzecznictwa organów ochrony konkurencji i konsumentów

Histopathological evaluation of recurrent goiter.

The recurrent goiter is the regrowth of thyroid tissue after thyroidectomy. An inadequate surgical removal of the thyroid gland, lack of substitution therapy and pathological stimulation of the thyroid growth can all promote the recurrence. The aim of this study was to find the connection between the histopathological findings during the first and second operation and the recurrence of goiter. The study group consisted of 29 women and 1 man. The mean time to recurrence was 15 years. The most frequent histopathological finding during the first and second operation was struma nodosa. According to our observations different histopathological findings were found in 63.4% cases after primary and secondary thyroidectomy. Some genetic investigations showed that nodules in recurrent goiters did not derive from nodules left during the first operation but from a group of cells which had high growth potential. Thus, not only the operation technique and substitution after operation are key factors of successful therapy of goiter, but also other factors which stimulate the re-growth of thyroid tissue

Pancreatic heterotopia in the gallbladder: an incidental finding after cholecystectomy

 Ectopic pancreas in the gallbladder is found very rarely in histological examination after cholecystectomy. The etiology of this entity is not yet clear, but there exist several hypotheses about its origin. Our histological study revealed both exocrine and endocrine components of pancreatic tissue as shown by H&E and immunohistochemical staining of a gallbladder sections of a 55-year old man. Ectopic pancreatic tissue may be an underestimated cause of acute idiopathic pancreatitis thus detailed postoperative histological examination may decrease the number of acute pancreatitis cases without the known cause.

Influence of Constant Magnetic Field on Electrodeposition of CoW/Cu/CoW Composite

Magnetic field influences the process of electrolytic deposition of materials, including metal composites. Numerous studies have shown that the magnetic field interferes in the rate of deposition, surface morphology, corrosion resistance, and hardness of the obtained coatings. The purpose of the study was to investigate the effect of a constant magnetic field on the processes of electrodeposition of the gradient metallic composite CoW/ Cu/CoW, and to compare the morphology of the surface of the composite obtained in and without the involvement of a constant magnetic field. Another step to achieve the objectives was to study the giant magnetoresistance (GMR) phenomenon, involving a change in the material resistance occurring im gradient metallic composites exposed to an external magnetic field. The percentage changes of resistance in constant magnetic field of magnetic induction B = 1T were estimated for CoW/Cu/CoW composite as well as for a reference composite Fe/Cr/Fe, known from the literature.This work was supported by the University of Lodz

Amino- and polyaminophthalazin-1(2H)-ones : synthesis, coordination properties, and biological activity

Amino- and polyaminophthalazinones were synthesized by the palladium‐catalyzed amination (alkyl- and arylamines, polyamines) of 4-bromophthalazinones in good yields. The coordinating properties of selected aminophthalazinones towards Cu(II) ions were investigated and the participation of the nitrogen atoms in the complexation of the metal ion was shown. A biological screening of the potential cytotoxicity of selected synthesized compounds on HT-29 and PC-3 cell lines, as well as on the L-929 cell line, proved that some amino derivatives of phthalazinone show interesting anticancer activities.
