    Prototype Of Coupling Unit Network For Power Line Communications

    Power Line Communications has made impressive strides since its introduction. Power Line Communications (PLC) or Broadband over Power Lines (BPL) is the method of transmitting broadband signals over the power lines and making it available at the power outlet in homes. It provides last mile communication and makes use of existing power lines to transmit signals, thereby eliminating the need to lay cables all over again. PLC is fast becoming a commercial reality in the United States. The Federal Communications Commission (FCC) is working toward making PLC a standard with particular emphasis on power emission issues and interference with nearby bands. Power companies, vendors and ISPs (Internet Service Providers) have tied up to bring this new technology to market. The Power line environment is inherently unpredictable due to interference, low signaling impedance and the highly linear operating environment that PLC transmitters require. The coupling unit in the PLC system acts as a filter and eliminates the harmful AC signal from interfering with the broadband signals. A coupling unit amplifier topology that provides gain equalization and wideband mitigation to the effects of low-impedance loads on PLC in the high frequency range has been explored in detail in this study. The amplifier is verified for its performance by means of circuit simulation using industry-standard software such as Agilent\u27s Advanced Design System (ADS). The coupling unit has also been fabricated to verify the performance. An experimental setup for verifying the performance of the coupling unit using a PLC transmitter and PLC receiver has also been proposed

    WOUND HEALING CONCEPTS: CONTEMPORARY PRACTICES AND FUTURE PERSPECTIVES

    The advancements in the development of wound dressings have seen tremendous growth in the past few decades. Wound healing approach has majorly shifted from dry healing to moist healing. There has been a significant advancement in our understanding of the underlying physiology involved in wound healing and the associated systemic factors having a direct or indirect influence on the healing. This has resulted in the development of wound dressings designed to treat specific types of wounds. The present review discusses the physiology of wound healing, followed by different factors that contribute to healing. The advancements in wound dressings with their merits and limitations, newer approaches in wound care i.e., hyperbaric oxygen, negative pressure therapy, skin substitutes and role of growth factors in wound healing, have been highlighted. In addition, more recent approaches for effective wound care like smart devices with sensing, reporting and responding functions are discussed

    So What Do I Get? The Bank’s View of Lending Relationships

    While a number of empirical studies have documented benefits of lending relationships to borrowers (lower loan rates, better credit availability, etc.), not much is known about benefits of such relationships for lenders. For a relationship lender, its comparative advantage in information gathering/processing yields two potential benefits. First, a relationship lender would have a higher probability of selling future information-sensitive products (e.g. loans, security underwriting, etc.) to its borrowers compared to a non-relationship lender. We refer to this as higher volume benefit of relationship lending. Second, if borrower-specific information is only available to relationship lender, it can use this information monopoly to charge higher rates on future loans. We refer to this as increased pricing benefit of relationship lending. Our results show that, on average, a lender with a past relationship with a borrower has a 42% probability of providing it with future loans, while a lender lacking a past relationship with a borrower has only a 3% probability of providing it with a future loan. Consistent with theory, we find that borrowers with greater information asymmetries (e.g. small borrowers, or non-rated borrowers) are significantly more likely to use their relationship banks for future loans. Although the association between past lending relationship and probability of being chosen to provide debt and equity underwriting services in the future is statistically significant, the economic impact is much smaller compared to loan markets. However, our findings do not provide strong support for an increased pricing benefit for relationship lenders. On average, the rate of interest for similar borrowers is 6-10 basis points lower if the loan is provided by a relationship lender. Underwriting fee for initial public offerings (IPO) with relationship lender(s) as lead underwriter(s) is 26 basis points lower. This suggests that lenders are prepared to share some of the benefits of relationship lending with borrowers

    PHARMACOKINETIC STUDIES OF A CHRONOTHERAPEUTIC DRUG DELIVERY SYSTEM OF LORNOXICAM BY LC-MS/MS METHOD

    Objective: The objective of this study was to investigate differences in pharmacokinetic patterns of immediate release tablet (IR) and compression coated tablet (CCT) of lornoxicam, proposed for the chronotherapeutic treatment of rheumatoid arthritis.Methods: The dosage forms were administered to two groups of white New Zealand rabbits (n=3), and the plasma drug levels were measured by liquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (LC-MS/MS). Pharmacokinetic parameters like maximum concentration (Cmax), time is taken to reach maximum concentration (Tmax), area under the curve (AUC), elimination half-life (t1/2) and Mean Residence Time (MRT) were determined.Results: In the case of IR tablets, the drug was detected within 15 min after oral administration and a Cmax of 1269.57±4.04 ng/ml were attained at 2±0.15 h. With CCT, the drug was detected only after 5 h and a Cmax of 1279.24±12.76 ng/ml were attained at 8±0.10 h. The CCT showed maximum drug release at the eighth hour in comparison to IR tablet which showed maximum release at the second hour of study.Conclusion: The predominant lag time prior to drug release from CCT is an indication that it is consistent with the requirements of chronopharmaceutical drug delivery. The results suggest that the compression coated tablet is a promising approach for chronotherapeutic management of rheumatoid arthritis

    Comparative study between nerve stimulator guided technique and ultrasound guided technique of supraclavicular nerve block for upper limb surgery

    Background: Peripheral nerve stimulator (PNS) has been the ‘gold standard’ for peripheral nerve blocks for determining adequate needle placement to produce regional anesthesia/analgesia. Modern ultrasound (US) machines can be used to guide the injection needle while minimizing the risk of injury of adjacent structures.the main objective of the study was to compare nerve stimulator guided technique and ultrasound guided technique of supraclavicular brachial plexus block for upper limb surgeryMethods: This prospective randomized single blind comparative study was conducted in eighty patients under supraclavicular brachial plexus block using 0.5% Ropivacaine at a tertiary care teaching hospital of Rajasthan after taking approval from ethical committee. These patients were randomly allocated in either group PNS (n=40) or group US (n=40). Both the groups were assessed for procedure time, onset and duration of sensory and motor blockade and complications. Results: The procedure time was 8.0±1.53 minutes in group PNS and 6.27±1.10 minutes in group US (p˂0.0001). The onset of sensory and motor block was 7.68±1.33 minutes and 9.94±1.28 minutes in group PNS and 6.46±1.02 minutes and 8.10±1.02 minutes respectively in group US (p˂0.0001). The time to achieve complete block was 16.11±1.54 minutes in group PNS and 13.74±1.11 minutes in group US (p˂0.0001). The duration of sensory and motor block was 7 hours and 6 hours for group PNS and 8 hours and 7 hours respectively in group US. The success rate was 90% in group PNS and 97.5% in Group US.Conclusion: Ultrasound guided technique was found significantly better than PNS for supraclavicular brachial plexus block.

    The Transmembrane Isoform of Plasmodium falciparum MAEBL Is Essential for the Invasion of Anopheles Salivary Glands

    Malaria transmission depends on infective stages in the mosquito salivary glands. Plasmodium sporozoites that mature in midgut oocysts must traverse the hemocoel and invade the mosquito salivary glands in a process thought to be mediated by parasite ligands. MAEBL, a homologue of the transmembrane EBP ligands essential in merozoite invasion, is expressed abundantly in midgut sporozoites. Alternative splicing generates different MAEBL isoforms and so it is unclear what form is functionally essential. To identify the MAEBL isoform required for P. falciparum (NF54) sporozoite invasion of salivary glands, we created knockout and allelic replacements each carrying CDS of a single MAEBL isoform. Only the transmembrane form of MAEBL is essential and is the first P. falciparum ligand validated as essential for invasion of Anopheles salivary glands. MAEBL is the first P. falciparum ligand experimentally determined to be essential for this important step in the life cycle where the vector becomes infectious for transmitting sporozoites to people. With an increasing emphasis on advancing vector-based transgenic methods for suppression of malaria, it is important that this type of study, using modern molecular genetic tools, is done with the agent of the human disease. Understanding what P. falciparum sporozoite ligands are critical for mosquito transmission will help validate targets for vector-based transmission-blocking strategies

    Effects of antiplatelet therapy on stroke risk by brain imaging features of intracerebral haemorrhage and cerebral small vessel diseases: subgroup analyses of the RESTART randomised, open-label trial

    Background Findings from the RESTART trial suggest that starting antiplatelet therapy might reduce the risk of recurrent symptomatic intracerebral haemorrhage compared with avoiding antiplatelet therapy. Brain imaging features of intracerebral haemorrhage and cerebral small vessel diseases (such as cerebral microbleeds) are associated with greater risks of recurrent intracerebral haemorrhage. We did subgroup analyses of the RESTART trial to explore whether these brain imaging features modify the effects of antiplatelet therapy

    Daksha: On Alert for High Energy Transients

    We present Daksha, a proposed high energy transients mission for the study of electromagnetic counterparts of gravitational wave sources, and gamma ray bursts. Daksha will comprise of two satellites in low earth equatorial orbits, on opposite sides of earth. Each satellite will carry three types of detectors to cover the entire sky in an energy range from 1 keV to >1 MeV. Any transients detected on-board will be announced publicly within minutes of discovery. All photon data will be downloaded in ground station passes to obtain source positions, spectra, and light curves. In addition, Daksha will address a wide range of science cases including monitoring X-ray pulsars, studies of magnetars, solar flares, searches for fast radio burst counterparts, routine monitoring of bright persistent high energy sources, terrestrial gamma-ray flashes, and probing primordial black hole abundances through lensing.
