    Pranic Healing for Partially Blind- A case study

    Objectives: Fourteen year-old boy was diagnosed with visual impairment in his right eye since birth. Other symptoms included blurred vision, dry eyes, and headache. Pranic Healing (PH) as a complementary therapy to heal eye aliments was applied on the subject..PH is an ancient science and art of healing people. It is considered as a natural, drugless, non-touch complimentary technique using prana to treat illness.Methods: Fifty PH sessions of 20 minutes each was applied on the subject.Results: On completion of 50 PH sessions, it was found that his unaided visual acuity improved in both eyes with the right eye showing significant improvement. The dryness in the eye, eye pain and headache were healed.Conclusions:Observing his visual improvement, he was advised to be transferred to the conventional school. PH as adjuvant therapy can assist for patients with visual impairment.     Gastro intestinal (GI) diseases are common to cattle. These diseases give lots of pain and discomfort to the cattle and loss to the cattle keepers. Ayurvedic medicines have high potentiality in treating many non infectious GI disorders. In infectious GI diseases irrational use of antibiotics has increased the risk of resistance as well as side effects. There is a surge of search for alternative therapies and Ayurveda is believed to be the promised answer. In Andhra Pradesh many scholars and traditional physicians practiced Ayurvedic methods; medicines for the cattle treatment and few of them had dedicated their lives completely to Ayurvedic veterinary practice. They magnificently combined traditional wisdom of classical Ayurvedic texts with newly acquired knowledge from modern veterinary medicine. They used to diagnose the diseases on modern methods and treatment was given through Ayurvedic drugs. They recorded their treatment and research findings, documented and presented them in a systematic way for their publications. These publications are not available in public domains and they are protected by AP states archives, Hyderabad. These Telugu publications are unique to veterinary medicine. With lots of efforts and literary research the data is compiled and translated. Many GI diseases and there remedies are dealt in these publications and present paper deals the treatments of indigestion, painful condition due to indigestion, tympanites (abdominal distension), grain sickness (grain poisoning or acidosis), fardel-bound and colic., This article explores treatments in a scientific manner with suitable Botanical or English names of the plants along with dose in metric equivalents.

    Growth, yield and nutritional content of finger millet (Eleusine coracana L.) as influenced by pranic energy application

    Pranic agriculture (PA) is an ancient farming method where pranic energy improves crop production. Finger millet or Ragi (Eleusine coracana. L) is a major staple millet consumed in India, particularly Karnataka and is a rich source of protein and nutrients. A field study in half-acre was carried out with pranic energy treatment to seed, land and crop and along with control (without energy treatment). The traits of finger millet like plant height (26%), number of productive tillers (35%), no of panicle (54%), number of fingers (13%) and grain yield (44%) were statistically (p < .05) higher over control. Protein content in finger millet straw (4.38 %) and grain (6.13%) was higher in pranic treatment than control (3.5 and 4.75%). Nitrogen and zinc content in millet grain was higher in pranic treatment (980 and 1.96 mg/100g) than control (760 and 1.63 mg/100g). The increase in protein, nitrogen and zinc content of the millet grain and straw will help to improve the quality of produce for consumption by cattle and humans.  Increase in straw and grain yield will help to improve the economy of the farmer.  Further studies are needed to know the actual mechanisms involved in the growth and yield improvement of finger millet. And, also in-depth studies are necessary to address the reasons behind the variation in nutrients accumulation in straw and grain.

    Wind Speed Intervals Prediction using Meta-cognitive Approach

    © 2018 The Authors. Published by Elsevier Ltd. In this paper, an interval type-2 neural fuzzy inference system and its meta-cognitive learning algorithm for wind speed prediction is proposed. Interval type-2 neuro-fuzzy system is capable of handling uncertainty associated with the data and meta-cognition employs self-regulation mechanism for learning. The proposed system realizes Takagi-Sugeno-Kang inference mechanism and adopts a fast data-driven interval-reduction method. Meta-cognitive learning enables the network structure to evolve automatically based on the knowledge in data. The parameters are updated based on an extended Kalman filter algorithm. In addition, the proposed network is able to construct prediction intervals to quantify uncertainty associated with forecasts. For performance evaluation, a real-world wind speed prediction problem is utilized. Using historical data, the model provides short-term prediction intervals of wind speed. The performance of proposed algorithm is compared with existing state-of-the art fuzzy inference system approaches and the results clearly indicate its advantages in forecasting problems

One of the important sources of renewable energy is the wave energy, in addition to wind, solar, tidal, etc. Wave prediction/forecasting is consequently essential in coastal and ocean engineering studies. However, it is difficult to predict wave parameters in long term and even in the short term due to its intermittent nature. This study aims to propose a solution to handle the issue using Interval type-2 fuzzy inference system, or IT2FIS. IT2FIS has been shown to be capable of handling uncertainty associated with the data. The proposed IT2FIS is a fuzzy neural network realizing Takagi-Sugeno-Kang inference mechanism employing meta-cognitive learning algorithm. The algorithm monitors knowledge in a sample to decide an appropriate learning strategy. Performance of the system is evaluated by studying significant wave heights obtained from buoys located in Singapore. The results compared with existing state-of-the art fuzzy inference system approaches clearly indicate the advantage of IT2FIS based wave prediction

    Lime-Stabilized Black Cotton Soil and Brick Powder Mixture as Subbase Material

    Various researchers, for the past few decades, had tried to stabilize black cotton soil using lime for improving its shrinkage and swelling characteristics. But these days, the cost of lime has increased resulting in increase in need for alternative and cost effective waste materials such as fly ash and rice husk ash. Brick powder, one among the alternative materials, is a fine powdered waste that contains higher proportions of silica and is found near brick kilns in rural areas. The objective of the study is to investigate the use of lime-stabilized black cotton soil and brick powder mixture as subbase material in flexible pavements. Black cotton soil procured from the local area, tested for suitability as subbase material, turned out to be unsuitable as it resulted in very less CBR value. Even lime stabilization of black cotton soil under study has not showed up the required CBR value specified for the subbase material of flexible pavement by MORTH. Hence the lime-stabilized black cotton soil is proportioned with brick powder to obtain optimum mixture that yields a better CBR value. The mixture of 20% brick powder and 80% lime-stabilized black cotton soil under study resulted in increase in the CBR value by about 135% in comparison with lime-stabilized black cotton soil. Thus it is promising to use the mixture of brick powder and lime-stabilized black cotton soil as subbase material in flexible pavements

    The aura is believed to be an invisible field surrounding the physical body, interpenetrating and extending beyond it. The present study examines whether appearance of an aura-like phenomenon around the hand can be perceived visually after a short training session. A quasi-experimental research design was employed with 47 participants with a mean age of 19 years. Results from before and after attempting to view an aura-like phenomenon around the hand were analyzed using Contingency Coefficient analysis.     Schur Polynomials Do Not Have Small Formulas If the Determinant Doesn\u27t

    Schur Polynomials are families of symmetric polynomials that have been classically studied in Combinatorics and Algebra alike. They play a central role in the study of Symmetric functions, in Representation theory [Stanley, 1999], in Schubert calculus [Ledoux and Malham, 2010] as well as in Enumerative combinatorics [Gasharov, 1996; Stanley, 1984; Stanley, 1999]. In recent years, they have also shown up in various incarnations in Computer Science, e.g, Quantum computation [Hallgren et al., 2000; Ryan O\u27Donnell and John Wright, 2015] and Geometric complexity theory [Ikenmeyer and Panova, 2017]. However, unlike some other families of symmetric polynomials like the Elementary Symmetric polynomials, the Power Symmetric polynomials and the Complete Homogeneous Symmetric polynomials, the computational complexity of syntactically computing Schur polynomials has not been studied much. In particular, it is not known whether Schur polynomials can be computed efficiently by algebraic formulas. In this work, we address this question, and show that unless every polynomial with a small algebraic branching program (ABP) has a small algebraic formula, there are Schur polynomials that cannot be computed by algebraic formula of polynomial size. In other words, unless the algebraic complexity class VBP is equal to the complexity class VF, there exist Schur polynomials which do not have polynomial size algebraic formulas. As a consequence of our proof, we also show that computing the determinant of certain generalized Vandermonde matrices is essentially as hard as computing the general symbolic determinant. To the best of our knowledge, these are one of the first hardness results of this kind for families of polynomials which are not multilinear. A key ingredient of our proof is the study of composition of well behaved algebraically independent polynomials with a homogeneous polynomial, and might be of independent interest
