The role of intermolecular coupling in the photophysics of disordered organic semiconductors: Aggregate emission in regioregular polythiophene
We address the role of excitonic coulping on the nature of photoexcitations
in the conjugated polymer regioregular poly(3-hexylthiophene). By means of
temperature-dependent absorption and photoluminescence spectroscopy, we show
that optical emission is overwhelmingly dominated by weakly coupled
H-aggregates. The relative absorbance of the 0-0 and 0-1 vibronic peaks
provides a powerfully simple means to extract the magnitude of the
intermolecular coupling energy, approximately 5 and 30 meV for films spun from

Social work has experienced unique tensions related to its professional identity and dual purpose of social reform and individualized treatment. Scholars have represented this dual purpose, epitomized by Jane Addams and Mary Richmond, as indicating irreconcilable differences. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the writings and speeches of Mary Richmond and Jane Addams, and, based on this inquiry, to assert that their respective approaches to social work are much more unified than often suggested. Specific themes examined include: acceptance and need for each other’s perspectives; compatibility and unity of perspectives; and their collaboration as critical for effecting social change. With this more complex understanding of Richmond and Addams, the authors speculate about how a more holistic approach to social work practice is needed in the 21st century

Statistics of low-energy levels of a one-dimensional weakly localized Frenkel exciton: A numerical study
Numerical study of the one-dimensional Frenkel Hamiltonian with on-site
randomness is carried out. We focus on the statistics of the energy levels near
the lower exciton band edge, i. e. those determining optical response. We found
that the distribution of the energy spacing between the states that are well
localized at the same segment is characterized by non-zero mean, i.e. these
states undergo repulsion. This repulsion results in a local discrete energy
structure of a localized Frenkel exciton. On the contrary, the energy spacing
distribution for weakly overlapping local ground states (the states with no
nodes within their localization segments) that are localized at different
segments has zero mean and shows almost no repulsion. The typical width of the
latter distribution is of the same order as the typical spacing in the local
discrete energy structure, so that this local structure is hidden; it does not
reveal itself neither in the density of states nor in the linear absorption
spectra. However, this structure affects the two-exciton transitions involving
the states of the same segment and can be observed by the pump-probe
spectroscopy. We analyze also the disorder degree scaling of the first and

Extra-projected implants as an alternative surgical model for breast reconstruction. Implantation strategy and early results.
Abstract The present study reports on patients who underwent breast reconstructions with extra-projection implants. Two-hundred and thirty-four women were treated for 238 breast reconstructions irrespectively of breast shape and size. In this series we aimed to reconstruct for all women a bilateral cosmetic medium-size breast (between 400 and 500 cc), highly projected, with a little to moderate ptosis rather then a ptotic one exactly matching the contra-lateral. This is demonstrated by volume of implants that ranged from 397 cc for ladies with small breast who received an augmentation, to 533 cc for those who side required a reduction surgery. Eighty-six percent of patients received contra-lateral procedures. Complication rate was 8.4% and 66% of reconstructions were rated as good in the patients' opinion. Extra-projection implants, coupled with contra-lateral breast surgery, provide a good aesthetic outcome and avoid myocutaneous flaps only on the basis of breast size and shape
Excitonic Strings in one dimensional organic compounds
Important questions concern the existence of excitonic strings in organic
compounds and their signatures in the photophysics of these systems. A model in
terms of Hard Core Bosons is proposed to study this problem in one dimension.
Mainly the cases with two and three particles are studied for finite and
infinite lattices, where analytical results are accessible. It is shown that if
bi-excitonic states exist, three-excitonic and even, n-excitonic strings, at
least in a certain range of parameters, will exist. Moreover, the behaviour of
the transitions from one exciton to the biexciton is fully clarified. The
results are in agreement with exact finite cluster diagonalizations of several

Brain connectivity changes after osteopathic manipulative treatment: A randomized manual placebo-controlled trial
The effects of osteopathic manipulative treatment (OMT) on functional brain connectivity in healthy adults is missing in the literature. To make up for this lack, we applied advanced network analysis methods to analyze resting state functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) data, after OMT and Placebo treatment (P) in 30 healthy asymptomatic young participants randomized into OMT and placebo groups (OMTg; Pg). fMRI brain activity measures, performed before (T0), immediately after (T1) and three days after (T2) OMT or P were used for inferring treatment effects on brain circuit functional organization. Repeated measures ANOVA and post-hoc analysis demonstrated that Right Precentral Gyrus (F (2, 32) = 5.995, p < 0.005) was more influential over the information flow immediately after the OMT, while decreased betweenness centrality in Left Caudate (F (2, 32) = 6.496, p < 0.005) was observable three days after. Clustering coefficient showed a distinct time-point and group effect. At T1, reduced neighborhood connectivity was observed after OMT in the Left Amygdala (L-Amyg) (F(2, 32) = 7.269, p < 0.005) and Left Middle Temporal Gyrus (F(2, 32) = 6.452, p < 0.005), whereas at T2 the L-Amyg and Vermis-III (F(2, 32) = 6.772, p < 0.005) increased functional interactions.
