The objective of this work was to study the elimination of oxytetracycline (OTC) and fosfomycin (FOS) in sow colostrum/milk and its impact on some microbiological aspects and on intestinal morpho-physiological and zootechnical parameters of the litter. Colostrum/milk samples from sows treated during the period of delivery with OTC solution and disodium FOS by the intramuscular route were analyzed. Colostrum intake with residual concentrations of antibiotics and intestinal and zootechnical parameters of suckling piglets, were evaluated. The mean residual concentrations of OTC and FOS in colostrum/milk were 0.48 and 1.55 µg/ml and the average antibiotic intake/piglet was 0.13 and 0.50 mg/kg body weight, respectively. While ingestion of colostrum with FOS residues showed less impact than OTC on the microbiological, morpho-physiological and intestinal enzymatic biochemistry of suckling piglets, any of the antibiotics affected the zootechnical parameters of the litters. Nevertheless, the low concentrations of antibiotics ingested with colostrum would be a potential risk of developing bacterial resistance, thus their prophylactic administration during the peri-partum should be reconsidered.

Fear of COVID‐19 Scale (FCV‐19S) across countries: measurement invariance issues

Aim: The threats of novel coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) have caused fears worldwide. The Fear of COVID-19 Scale (FCV-19S) was recently developed to assess the fear of COVID-19. Although many studies found that the FCV-19S is psychometrically sound, it is unclear whether the FCV-19S is invariant across countries. The present study aimed to examine the measurement invariance of the FCV-19S across eleven countries. Design: Cross-sectional study. Methods: Using data collected from prior research on Bangladesh (N = 8,550), United Kingdom (N = 344), Brazil (N = 1,843), Taiwan (N = 539), Italy (N = 249), New Zealand (N = 317), Iran (N = 717), Cuba (N = 772), Pakistan (N = 937), Japan (N = 1,079) and France (N = 316), comprising a total 15,663 participants, the present study used the multigroup confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and Rasch differential item functioning (DIF) to examine the measurement invariance of the FCV-19S across country, gender and age (children aged below 18 years, young to middle-aged adults aged between 18 and 60 years, and older people aged above 60 years). Results: The unidimensional structure of the FCV-19S was confirmed. Multigroup CFA showed that FCV-19S was partially invariant across country and fully invariant across gender and age. DIF findings were consistent with the findings from multigroup CFA. Many DIF items were displayed for country, few DIF items were displayed for age, and no DIF items were displayed for gender. Conclusion: Based on the results of the present study, the FCV-19S is a good psychometric instrument to assess fear of COVID-19 during the pandemic period. Moreover, the use of FCV-19S is supported in at least ten countries with satisfactory psychometric properties

A rapid and precise method has been developed to detect residual concentrations of oxytetracycline in honey by a double extraction with acetone and reverse phase HPLC, working in isocratic mode and UV detector. The quantification limit was 0.05 mg/g obtaining a 90% recovery at this level.Se ha desarrollado un método rápido y preciso, para la determinación de concentraciones residuales de oxitetraciclina en miel, realizando una doble extracción con acetona y HPLC fase reversa en modo isocrático con detector UV. Pharmacokinetics and synovial fluid concentrations of flurbiprofen enantiomers in horses: chiral inversion

Flurbirpofen (FBP), a member of the 2-aryl propionate nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug class, has potent anti-inflammatory and analgesic properties. The commercial preparation is a racemic mixture of the R(−) and S(+) enantiomers of FBP. In this study, R(−) and S(+) FBP were used to investigate the metabolic chiral inversion. Each enantiomer was administered separately (0.25 mg/kg) and in a racemic mixture (0.5 mg/kg) intravenously to horses. Plasma and synovial concentration of each enantiomer was determined and the disposition of each was analyzed. After intravenous administration of R(−) FBP and S(+) FBP to horses no chiral inversion was detected. After the administration of the FBP racemate and individual enantiomers no differences were observed between pharmacokinetic parameters [t1/2â (h), Cl (L/h·kg), AUC (ìg·h/mL), Vss (L/kg) and MRT (h)] for R(−) and S(+) FBF. Synovial fluid concentrations of both FBP enantiomers were lower than plasma concentrations and no stereoselective differences were detected. These data indicate that the disposition of FBF in horses is not enantioselective and demonstrate a difference in the pharmacokinetic behavior of the enantiomers as compared with other 2-aryl-propionic acids, such as carprofen, ketoprofen and vedaprofen in the horse.Fil: Soraci, Alejandro Luis. The record of Sphoeroides pachygaster reveals the presence of the species in the Strait of Messina (Central Mediterranean Sea). The adult species was captured on 15 march 2012. It measured 280 mm of total length and weighed 461.5 g. Morphometric measurements (mm) and meristic counts were reported in this paper
