Average capacity analysis of FSO system with Airy beam as carrier over exponentiated Weibull channels

    No full text
Based on scintillation index of Airy beam and exponentiated Weibull channel model, analytical expressions of average channel capacity for free-space optical (FSO) communication links with Airy beam as signal carrier under weak atmospheric turbulence and on-off keying modulation scheme are derived. The average capacity at various propagation distances, transverse scale factors and exponential decay factors has been evaluated. And we compared the average capacity of FSO links with Airy beam and Gaussian beam as signal carrier. The results show that the average capacity of FSO links with Airy beam as carrier increases with the increase of mean signal-to-noise ratio and decreases uniformly with the increase of propagation distance. When the transverse scale factor of Airy beam is about 2 cm, a higher average capacity can be obtained. And the smaller the exponential decay factor of Airy beam, the larger the average capacity. Under the same source power or source width, the average capacity of FSO links with Airy beam as carrier is significantly higher than that of FSO links with Gaussian beam as carrier. The results of this research have some reference significance for the application of Airy beam in FSO communication system

The effect of Ni on microstructure, elemental partition behavior, γ′ phase solvus temperature, lattice misfit between γ and γ′ phases, and mechanical properties of the Co-8Ti-11V-xNi alloys was investigated. The result shows that the lattice misfit in the alloys decreases from 0.74% to 0.61% as the Ni content increases from 0 to 10%, and the average sizes of the cuboidal γ′ phase were measured to be 312.10 nm, 112.86 nm, and 141.84 nm for the Co-8Ti-11V, Co-8Ti-11V-5Ni, and Co-8Ti-11V-10Ni, respectively. Ti, V, and Ni exhibit a slight tendency to partition into the γ′ phase, while Co shows a slight tendency to partition into the γ phase. The solvus temperatures of the γ′ phase were measured to be 1167°C, 1114°C, and 1108°C for the Co-8Ti-11V, Co-8Ti-11V-5Ni, and Co-8Ti-11V-10Ni alloys, respectively, by using differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). Moreover, the yield strength and ultimate strength of the Co-8Ti-11V, Co-8Ti-11V-5Ni, and Co-8Ti-11V-10Ni alloys were investigated, and the yield strength and ultimate strength of the 10Ni alloy were highest, at 219 MPa and 240 MPa. After compression at 1000°C, the dislocations cannot effectively shear the γ′ phase in the 0Ni and 10Ni alloys, resulting in a relatively high compressive strength of the 0Ni and 10Ni alloys. However, the γ′ phase of the 5Ni alloy is no longer visible, and its strength is the lowest

Abstract Background Geological events and climatic changes played important roles in shaping population differentiation and distribution within species. In China, populations in many species have contracted and expanded responding to environmental changes with the uplift of the Qinghai-Tibet Plateau (QTP) and glacial cycles during Pleistocene. In this study, we analysed the population structure of Godlewski’s Bunting, Emberiza godlewskii, to determine the effects of major historical events, geographic barriers and past climatic changes on phylogenetic divergence and historical demographic dynamics of this species. Results A phylogeny based on concatenated mitochondrial and nuclear DNA datasets show two (northern and southern) clades approximately diverged 3.26 million years ago (Ma). The West Qinling Mountains serve as a dividing line between the two lineages. Both lineages experienced a recent demographic expansion during interglacial periods (marine isotope stages (MISs) 2–6). Bayesian skyline plots and the results of ecological niche modelling suggested a more intensive expansion of the northern lineage during the late Pleistocene, whereas the southern lineage was comparatively mild in population growth. Conclusions Our results provide insights into the distribution patterns of avian taxa and the possible mechanisms for a south and north divergence model in China. The deep divergence may have been shaped by the uplift of the QTP. Habitat preferences might have facilitated the lineage divergence for E. godlewskii. Moreover, the West Qinling Mountains act as a dividing line between the two lineages, indicating a novel phylogeographic pattern of organisms in China. The difference in population expansion mode between two lineages resulted from different effects caused by the climate of the LGM and the subsequent habitat changes accompanying the arrival of a colder climate in northern and southern regions of China

Performance Analysis of UAV RF/FSO Co-Operative Communication Network with Co-Channel Interference

The unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) communication network has emerged as a promising paradigm capable of independent operation and as a relay to enhance communication coverage and efficiency. However, densely distributed terrestrial base stations with shared communication frequencies inevitably generate co-channel interference (CCI). The interference effect can be effectively eliminated by implementing free-space optical (FSO) communication in the UAV communication network. This paper proposes a solution for the UAV communication network to address interference effectively, specifically by employing a hybrid millimeter-wave radio frequency (RF)/FSO communication system. The RF links serve as the primary means of communication, while the FSO links act as a backup means of communication in the case of CCI. The exact outage probability (OP) and average symbol error rate (SER) expressions are derived for the hybrid RF/FSO communication network. The decision to switch between them depends on the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR). Furthermore, the SINR switching threshold value, which satisfies the target SER, has been calculated numerically for the proposed model. Simulation results indicate that the proposed network notably enhances the OP and attains a signal-to-noise ratio gain of approximately 4.6 dB in the average SER, particularly in scenarios where the RF links are subjected to severe interference or adverse weather conditions, as opposed to a pure RF communication network

Population structure and demographic history of the chukar partridge Alectoris chukar in China

Pleistocene climate fluctuations have shaped the patterns of genetic diversity observed in extant species. Although the effects of recent glacial cycles on genetic diversity have been well studied on species in Europe and North America, genetic legacy of species in the Pleistocene in north and northwest of China where glaciations was not synchronous with the ice sheet development in the Northern Hemisphere or or had little or no ice cover during the glaciations’ period, remains poorly understood. Here we used phylogeographic methods to investigate the genetic structure and population history of the chukar partridge Alectoris chukar in north and northwest China. A 1,152 – 1,154 bp portion of the mtDNA CR were sequenced for all 279 specimens and a total number of 91 haplotypes were defined by 113 variable sites. High levels of gene flow were found and gene flow estimates were greater than 1 for most population pairs in our study. The AMOVA analysis showed that 81% and 16% of the total genetic variability was found within populations and among populations within groups, respectively. The demographic history of chukar was examined using neutrality tests and mismatch distribution analyses and results indicated Late Pleistocene population expansion. Results revealed that most populations of chukar experienced population expansion during 0.027 ‒ 0.06 Ma. These results are at odds with the results found in Europe and North America, where population expansions occurred after Last Glacial Maximum (LGM, 0.023 to 0.018 Ma). Our results are not consistent with the results from avian species of Tibetan Plateau, either, where species experienced population expansion following the retreat of the extensive glaciation period (0.5 to 0.175 Ma) [Current Zoology 59 (4): 458–474, 2013]
