O(N) and RP^{N-1} Models in Two Dimensions
I provide evidence that the 2D model for is equivalent
to the -invariant non-linear -model in the continuum limit. To
this end, I mainly study particular versions of the models, to be called
constraint models. I prove that the constraint and models are
equivalent for sufficiently weak coupling. Numerical results for their
step-scaling function of the running coupling are
presented. The data confirm that the constraint model is in the samei
universality class as the model with standard action. I show that the
differences in the finite size scaling curves of i and models
observed by Caracciolo et al. can be explained as a boundary effect. It is
concluded, in contrast to Caracciolo et al., that and models

Youth sport during the COVID-19 pandemic: The influence of race and affluence on parents’ perspectives of youth participation
COVID-19 restrictions led to a nearly 50% decline in youth sport participation across the United States (Dorsch et al., 2021). Today, communities and sport organizations have resumed sport. However, research has yet to fully elucidate how COVID-19 restrictions impacted youth participation across different sociodemographic groups during the pandemic. The present study explored the association between race and affluence and their relationship with parents' attitudes toward children's youth sport participation before, during, and after the COVID-19 pandemic. Online questionnaires were completed by a nationally representative sample of 3706 parents (Mage = 39.57 ± 9.03 years) who had a child regularly participating in youth sport before COVID-19. Multivariate Analyses of Variance using Tukey post-hoc tests were conducted to examine the main effect differences by race and affluence and the interactive effects of race and affluence. Results suggest that race and affluence -- independently and in combination -- were salient categorical variables of children's weekly hours of sport participation during the COVID-19 pandemic. Findings highlight that White*high affluent groups had the highest rates of sport participation during the COVID-19 pandemic and that these families desire to invest more time and money at greater rates upon returning. Theoretically, designed intersectionality research is recommended to explore further effects of race and affluence in youth sport

A window into the future? MRI for evaluation of neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder throughout the disease course
Neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorder (NMOSD) is a relapsing, inflammatory disease of the central nervous system marked by relapses often associated with poor recovery and long-term disability. Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is recognized as an important tool for timely diagnosis of NMOSD as, in combination with serologic testing, it aids in distinguishing NMOSD from possible mimics. Although the role of MRI for disease monitoring after diagnosis is not as well established, MRI may provide important prognostic information and help differentiate between relapses and pseudorelapses. Increasing evidence of subclinical disease activity and the emergence of newly approved, highly effective immunotherapies for NMOSD adjure us to re-evaluate MRI as a tool to guide optimal treatment selection and escalation throughout the disease course. Flow characteristics of Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids in a vessel stirred by a 60° pitched blade impeller
Mean and rms velocity characteristics of two Newtonian flows at Reynolds numbers of 12,800 (glycerin solution) and 48,000 (water) and of a non-Newtonian flow (0.2% CMC solution, at a power number similar to the Newtonian glycerin flow) in a mixing vessel stirred by a 60° pitched blade impeller have been measured by laser Doppler velocimetry (LDV). The velocity measurements, resolved over 360° and 1.08° of impeller rotation, showed that the mean flow of the two power number matched glycerin and CMC flows were similar to within 3% of the impeller tip velocity and the turbulence intensities generally lower in the CMC flow by up to 5% of the tip velocity. The calculated mean flow quantities showed similar discharge coefficient and pumping efficiency in all three flows and similar strain rate between the two power number matched glycerin and CMC flows; the strain rate of the higher Reynolds number Newtonian flow was found to be slightly higher. The energy balance around the impeller indicated that the CMC flow dissipated up to 9% more of the total input power and converted 7% less into the turbulence compared to the glycerin flow with the same power input which could lead to less effective mixing processes where the micro-mixing is important
Mechanisms and management of diabetic painful distal symmetrical polyneuropathy
Although a number of the diabetic neuropathies may result in painful symptomatology, this review focuses on the most common: chronic sensorimotor distal symmetrical polyneuropathy (DSPN). It is estimated that 15–20% of diabetic patients may have painful DSPN, but not all of these will require therapy. In practice, the diagnosis of DSPN is a clinical one, whereas for longitudinal studies and clinical trials, quantitative sensory testing and electrophysiological assessment are usually necessary. A number of simple numeric rating scales are available to assess the frequency and severity of neuropathic pain. Although the exact pathophysiological processes that result in diabetic neuropathic pain remain enigmatic, both peripheral and central mechanisms have been implicated, and extend from altered channel function in peripheral nerve through enhanced spinal processing and changes in many higher centers. A number of pharmacological agents have proven efficacy in painful DSPN, but all are prone to side effects, and none impact the underlying pathophysiological abnormalities because they are only symptomatic therapy. The two first-line therapies approved by regulatory authorities for painful neuropathy are duloxetine and pregabalin. α-Lipoic acid, an antioxidant and pathogenic therapy, has evidence of efficacy but is not licensed in the U.S. and several European countries. All patients with DSPN are at increased risk of foot ulceration and require foot care, education, and if possible, regular podiatry assessment
Strategies for the evolution of sex
We find that the hypothesis made by Jan, Stauffer and Moseley [Theory in
Biosc., 119, 166 (2000)] for the evolution of sex, namely a strategy devised to
escape extinction due to too many deleterious mutations, is sufficient but not
necessary for the successful evolution of a steady state population of sexual
individuals within a finite population. Simply allowing for a finite
probability for conversion to sex in each generation also gives rise to a
stable sexual population, in the presence of an upper limit on the number of
deleterious mutations per individual. For large values of this probability, we
find a phase transition to an intermittent, multi-stable regime. On the other
hand, in the limit of extremely slow drive, another transition takes place to a
different steady state distribution, with fewer deleterious mutations within

Formation of Small-Scale Condensations in the Molecular Clouds via Thermal Instability
A systematic study of the linear thermal instability of a self-gravitating
magnetic molecular cloud is carried out for the case when the unperturbed
background is subject to local expansion or contraction. We consider the
ambipolar diffusion, or ion-neutral friction on the perturbed states. In this
way, we obtain a non-dimensional characteristic equation that reduces to the
prior characteristic equation in the non-gravitating stationary background. By
parametric manipulation of this characteristic equation, we conclude that there
are, not only oblate condensation forming solutions, but also prolate solutions
according to local expansion or contraction of the background. We obtain the
conditions for existence of the Field lengths that thermal instability in the
molecular clouds can occur. If these conditions establish, small-scale
condensations in the form of spherical, oblate, or prolate may be produced via
