Turbulent drag reduction by anisotropic permeable substrates
The objective of the present thesis is to answer the question: `can anisotropic permeable substrates reduce turbulent skin-friction drag?'
The first part of the thesis aims to extend the existing understanding on how complex surfaces of small texture size can reduce drag. We show that the effect of these surfaces can be reduced to an offset between the apparent, virtual smooth wall perceived by the mean flow and that perceived by the overlying turbulence, but turbulence remains otherwise smooth-wall-like.
The drag reduction produced by these surfaces is therefore proportional to the difference between the two virtual origins.
In the second part of the thesis, we study the influence that anisotropic permeable substrates have on the overlying turbulence and show the potential of these substrates to reduce drag.
For this, we conduct direct numerical simulations of channel flows bounded by permeable substrates. For small permeabilities, we observe a linear regime, where drag reduction is proportional to the aforementioned offset between the virtual origin perceived by the mean flow and that perceived by turbulence. For the substrates under study, the former is governed by the streamwise permeability and the latter by the spanwise permeability. This linear regime breaks down as spanwise-coherent structures begin to appear, which increase the turbulent mixing and consequently increase the drag. These structures are attributed to a Kelvin-Helmholtz-like instability of the mean flow, a common feature to a variety of obstructed flows, and their onset can be predicted using a linear stability analysis. This analysis shows, and the simulations corroborate, that the governing parameter for the breakdown is the wall-normal permeability.
As this permeability increases, the drag-increasing, spanwise-coherent structures become prevalent in the flow, outweighing the drag-reducing effect of the virtual origins and eventually leading to an increase of drag. Based on the virtual-origin theory and the linear stability analysis, we build a predictive model for the behaviour of drag-reducing substrates, which estimates, with good accuracy, the drag reduction observed in the simulations. The present results and the models we subsequently developed provide guidelines for the design of drag-reducing permeable substrates. Cuidado enfermero en pacientes con chikungunya ingresados en el Hospital Divina Providencia De San Lorenzo - Esmeraldas 2016
Establecer el Cuidado enfermero en pacientes con Chikungunya ingresados en el Hospital Divina Providencia de San Lorenzo - Esmeraldas 2016.La función del personal ante un caso de chikungunya es mantener el tratamiento fisiológico intensivo, donde lo fundamental es la vigilancia hasta estabilizar al paciente, por ello el rol fundamental de enfermería es el cuidado para evitar complicaciones que pongan en riesgo la vida del paciente, de allí el objetivo de esta investigación fue; establecer el Cuidado enfermero en pacientes con Chikungunya ingresados en el Hospital Divina Providencia de San Lorenzo - Esmeraldas. Se trató de una investigación no experimental con enfoque cuantitativo; de tipo descriptivo, transversal, observacional aplicado a 40 profesionales de enfermería para medir conocimiento y aplicación del cuidado enfermero en pacientes con chikungunya, obteniéndose como resultados: la población que prevalece es el género femenino, con edad media de 30 años, se auto identifican como afro-ecuatoriana, de estado civil unión libre, con más de 5 años de experiencia laboral; distribuidas en las áreas de Emergencia, Medicina Interna, Cirugía, Ginecología y Pediatría respectivamente. En cuanto al conocimiento sobre el cuidado enfermero, en su mayoría indica que a veces utilizan el PAE para la resolución de problemas de salud dirigida a pacientes con chikungunya, lo que incluye que no aplican de forma regular las fases de valoración, diagnóstico, planificación, ejecución y evaluación. Reconocen signos y síntomas en su fase típica en su mayoría, mientras que la fase atípica un gran porcentaje presentan inconsistencias en su reconocimiento. Al hacer referencia al cuidado de enfermería la mayoría indican que a veces aplican las técnicas de exploración, y se basan en cuidados referentes a la sintomatología en su fase típica.Licenciatur
Implementation of gate-all-around gate-engineered charge plasma nanowire FET-based common source amplifier
This paper examines the performance of a Gate-Engineered Gate-All-Around Charge Plasma Nanowire Field Effect Transistor (GAA-DMG-GS-CP NW-FET) and the implementation of a common source (CS) amplifier circuit. The proposed GAA-DMG-GS-CP NW-FET incorporates dual-material gate (DMG) and gate stack (GS) as gate engineering techniques and its analog/RF performance parameters are compared to those of the Gate-All-Around Single-Material Gate Charge Plasma Nanowire Field Effect Transistor (GAA-SMG-CP NW-FET) device. Both Gate-All-Around (GAA) devices are designed using the Silvaco TCAD tool. GAA structures have demonstrated good gate control because the gate holds the channel, which is an inherent advantage for both devices discussed herein. The charge plasma dopingless technique is used, in which the source and drain regions are formed using metal contacts and necessary work functions rather than doping. This dopingless technique eliminates the need for doping, reducing fluctuations caused by random dopants and lowering the device’s thermal budget. Gate engineering techniques such as DMG and GS significantly improved the current characteristics which played a crucial role in obtaining maximum gain for circuit designs. The lookup table (LUT) approach is used in the implementation of the CS amplifier circuit with the proposed device. The transient response of the circuit is analyzed with both the device structures where the gain achieved for the CS amplifier circuit using the proposed GAA-DMG-GS-CP NW-FET is 15.06 dB. The superior performance showcased by the proposed GAA-DMG-GS-CP NW-FET device with analog, RF and circuit analysis proves its strong candidature for future nanoscale and low-power applications

Proposition of the 3-block perfume exhibition model: Using technology on turning visible and invisible reality such as perfumes
Perfumes are part of our daily life. They can be a possible way to express our beauty or they can bring to life some memories or they can be simply hygienical accessories. Hard to describe, impossible to see. Perfumes have some mystical aura above them. For the industry perspective, perfumes present a challenge that is how to turn visible such an invisible, intangible and mystical object. The lineup questions of this study seek to explore the artistic endeavor perfumes can display and the advantages of retrieving data to improve the exhibition and to develop new business models. To develop this theoretical, conceptual and exploratory study one must look at some of the scholars’ contributions to this subject and the fragrance exhibitions made to this day. Moreover, some empirical knowledge that helps to understand how value is perceived into modern perfumery is stated; such knowledge comes from previous exhibitions, either fragrance-related exhibitions or immersive experience exhibitions, and it can be studied and improved from one’s empirical experience. The study is aimed to serve as support for a Perfume Art Exhibitions and it will develop a role model for future olfactory art exhibitions. Sensorial experiences and the visitors’ embodiment are critical factors for the success of an exhibition; hence this article seeks to propose a new exhibition model, totally oriented for the visitors’ needs and expectations but also for the brands’ market research and segmentation efforts. The 3-block model can be used for both an exhibition and to a permanent art museum. This model is innovative because it enhances the artistic role of perfumes and it will get visitors to dive into perfumes, gaining vocabulary and exploring the “making of” perfumes.info:eu-repo/semantics/acceptedVersio
