La elocución mantiene la solenmidad de la tragedia. En Los Amantes encontramos una variada muestra de figuras literarias encargadas de crear una rica lengua retórica. The elocution keeps on the solenmity ofthe tragedy. In Los Amantes, we can find a wide range of our literary images, which are in charge of creating a rich rethorical language

Los personajes fundamentales son Sigura y Marcilla. Sobre ellos recae el peso de la tragedia, por eso sus caracteres están bien cuidados. Sin embargo, el autor no olvida caracterizar a los personajes secundarios. The main characters are Sigura and Marcilla. The main strength of the tragedy lies on these main characters, that is the reason why their personality is well-built. However, the author does not forget to characterize secondary characters

Towards defining the role of glycans as hardware in information storage and transfer: Basic principles, experimental approaches and recent progress

    Get PDF
The term `code' in biological information transfer appears to be tightly and hitherto exclusively connected with the genetic code based on nucleotides and translated into functional activities via proteins. However, the recent appreciation of the enormous coding capacity of oligosaccharide chains of natural glycoconjugates has spurred to give heed to a new concept: versatile glycan assembly by the genetically encoded glycosyltransferases endows cells with a probably not yet fully catalogued array of meaningful messages. Enciphered by sugar receptors such as endogenous lectins the information of code words established by a series of covalently linked monosaccharides as fetters for example guides correct intra- and intercellular routing of glycoproteins, modulates cell proliferation or migration and mediates cell adhesion. Evidently, the elucidation of the structural frameworks and the recognition strategies within the operation of the sugar code poses a fascinating conundrum. The far-reaching impact of this recognition mode on the level of cells, tissues and organs has fueled vigorous investigations to probe the subtleties of protein-carbohydrate interactions. This review presents information on the necessarily concerted approach using X-ray crystallography, molecular modeling, nuclear magnetic resonance spectroscopy, thermodynamic analysis and engineered ligands and receptors. This part of the treatise is flanked by exemplarily chosen insights made possible by these techniques. Copyright (C) 2001 S. Karger AG, Basel

Applied Molecular Biosciences Unit (UCIBIO) (Financed by FCT-MCTES, UID/Multi/04378/2013/2019).Bacterial surfaces are decorated with distinct carbohydrate structures that may substantially differ among species and strains. These structures can be recognized by a variety of glycan-binding proteins, playing an important role in the bacteria cross-talk with the host and invading bacteriophages, and also in the formation of bacterial microcolonies and biofilms. In recent years, different microarray approaches for exploring bacterial surface glycans and their recognition by proteins have been developed. A main advantage of the microarray format is the inherent miniaturization of the method, which allows sensitive and high-throughput analyses with very small amounts of sample. Antibody and lectin microarrays have been used for examining bacterial glycosignatures, enabling bacteria identification and differentiation among strains. In addition, microarrays incorporating bacterial carbohydrate structures have served to evaluate their recognition by diverse host/phage/bacterial glycan-binding proteins, such as lectins, effectors of the immune system, or bacterial and phagic cell wall lysins, and to identify antigenic determinants for vaccine development. The list of samples printed in the arrays includes polysaccharides, lipopoly/lipooligosaccharides, (lipo)teichoic acids, and peptidoglycans, as well as sequence-defined oligosaccharide fragments. Moreover, microarrays of cell wall fragments and entire bacterial cells have been developed, which also allow to study bacterial glycosylation patterns. In this review, examples of the different microarray platforms and applications are presented with a view to give the current state-of-the-art and future prospects in this field.publishersversionpublishe

Tourist mature destinations as complex spaces: notes about the elaboration process of an atlas of Costa del Sol

    Get PDF
This text wants to convey the experience of the process of developing a contemporary tourist atlas. The following will describe the regulations that affect the standardization of cartographic sources in nature, the process of liberation and free acquisition in Europe. On the other hand, describes the treatment processes and spatial information obtained indirectly, and the problems attached. All these spatial databases are treated or processed reinterpreted using GIS software. The study area analyzed is the region of the Costa del Sol, located in the province of Malaga in southern Spain.Peer Reviewe
