Les categories funcionals d'inflexió i el moviment del verb /
L'estudi vol justificar l'existència de categories funcionals (Temps i Concordança oracionals) com a categories sintàctiques sobre la base de dades empíriques
Sobre la partícula «rai» i els tòpics
In the first part of the paper, I characterize the particle "rai", used in some dialects of Catalan, as a topicemphasizer (by topic I mean left-dislocated constituent). In the second part I use this particle as a criterion to identify the class of topics, and I speculate on the nature of this class, which is in complementary distribution with the class of operators
Clitic Climbing and Null Subject Languages
The aim of this paper is to derive Clitic Climbing from restructuring together with the Null Subject property. Data are drawn mainly from Catalan. I propose a biclausal analysis for restructuring constructions in which clitic climbing (like any clitic-Argument dependencies) is analysed as an A-dependency, assuming that clitics are AGR-heads which check features in the Agreement-Case system. Clitic climbing would be then a «long distance» A-dependency, which is made possible by assuming that restructuring is always raising, and that raising in NSLs is a transparent structure for A-dependencies, due to the nature of Nominative Case checking in these languages.
Burzio's Generalization, Binding Theory and I-Subjects
The aim of this paper is to explore an alternative approach to the standard GB theory on the nature of AGR and sentence subjects. It accounts for the classical cluster of pro-árop properties (null subjects, subject inversion and absence of that-t effects) and also for verb movement in infinitives in pro-drop languages, which is longer than in non pro-drop ones. The present theory also derives Burzio's Generalization, by reducing it to a structural requirement without making direct reference to theta-theory (i.e., the presence or absence of the external theta-role)
