Implementation of relocation of street vendors (PKL) has now become the spotlight of public attention. Frequent clashes in various cities in Indonesia between government officials are generally represented by the Pramong Satuan Polisi Praja (Satpol PP) with street vendors. However, this did not happen in Solo, Central Java during the reign of Governor Joko Widodo in 2006. This study aims to find an answer to how Joko Widodo's leadership style (also known as Jokowi) as Mayor of Surakarta to approach the street vendors In Monument '45 Banjarsari Surakarta so they can move without risk or resistance effectively. To understand the concept of leadership style used in the relocation process done by Jokowi in Solo, the researcher conducted a qualitative analysis to develop typology and found five main interpretations of his leadership style from the point of view of street vendors. Leadership style is: populist, sembodo (consistent), nguwongke (appreciate), ngemong (care) and visionary. The results show that street vendors with a background in Solo need a psychological and cultural approach to conduct relocation without resistance

This study evaluated the level of growth differentiation factor 9 (GDF-9) in the follicular fluid of infertile women with endometriosis. The presence of GDF-9 in follicular fluid of preovulatory follicle was confirmed by Western blotting method in the band of 53 kDa, and GDF-9 concentration in women with severe endometriosis was lower than in those without

An annotated bird checklist for Gam island, Raja Ampat, including field notes on species monitoring and conservation

Species checklists are a fundamental component of biodiversity research. They foster understanding of species distributions and habitat preferences, thus reducing gaps of knowledge in geographical occurrences of species. Especially in light of the limited availability of data on species distributions for Tanah Papua, an increasing scientific focus on the region is crucial to foster and refine the knowledge of species occurrences and to inform potential conservation planning. Despite a strong focus on conservation of Raja Ampat´s marine areas, surprisingly few studies have focused on the terrestrial biodiversity of the archipelago. As a consequence, detailed species checklists are largely missing. Here, we provide a preliminary bird species checklist for the island of Gam and its surrounding islands, located in the central Raja Ampat archipelago. During nine sampling periods between 2013 and 2019, we recorded 132 bird species in six distinct habitat types. Of the detected species, six are considered threatened by IUCN Red List criteria. We further recorded three new species for Gam Island, thereby expanding their known extent of occurrence

Bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells attenuate pulmonary inflammation and lung damage caused by highly pathogenic avian influenza A/H5N1 virus in BALB/c mice

Background The highly pathogenic avian influenza A/H5N1 virus is one of the causative agents of acute lung injury (ALI) with high mortality rate. Studies on therapeutic administration of bone marrow-derived mesenchymal stem cells (MSCs) in ALI caused by the viral infection have been limited in number and have shown conflicting results. The aim of the present investigation is to evaluate the therapeutic potential of MSC administration in A/H5N1-caused ALI, using a mouse model. Methods MSCs were prepared from the bone marrow of 9 to 12 week-old BALB/c mice. An H5N1 virus of A/turkey/East Java/Av154/2013 was intranasally inoculated into BALB/c mice. On days 2, 4, and 6 after virus inoculation, MSCs were intravenously administered into the mice. To evaluate effects of the treatment, we examined for lung alveolar protein as an indicator for lung injury, PaO2/FiO2 ratio for lung functioning, and lung histopathology. Expressions of NF-κB, RAGE (transmembrane receptor for damage associated molecular patterns), TNFα, IL-1β, Sftpc (alveolar cell type II marker), and Aqp5+ (alveolar cell type I marker) were examined by immunohistochemistry. In addition, body weight, virus growth in lung and brain, and duration of survival were measured. Results The administration of MSCs lowered the level of lung damage in the virus-infected mice, as shown by measuring lung alveolar protein, PaO2/FiO2 ratio, and histopathological score. In the MSC-treated group, the expressions of NF-κB, RAGE, TNFα, and IL-1β were significantly suppressed in comparison with a mock-treated group, while those of Sftpc and Aqp5+ were enhanced. Body weight, virus growth, and survival period were not significantly different between the groups. Conclusion The administration of MSCs prevented further lung injury and inflammation, and enhanced alveolar cell type II and I regeneration, while it did not significantly affect viral proliferation and mouse morbidity and mortality. The results suggested that MSC administration was a promissing strategy for treatment of acute lung injuries caused by the highly pathogenic avian influenza A/H5N1 virus, although further optimization and combination use of anti-viral drugs will be obviously required to achieve the goal of reducing mortality

Matrix Metalloproteinase-9 Expression and Status of Cervical Lymph Nodes in Patients with Nasopharyngeal Carcinoma

Tumor growth and metastasis in nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) patients was suspected as a role of several molecular biomarkers that have been identified in tumor specimens of patients with NPC. Invasion and metastasis process was a complex mechanism which involved some proteolytic enzymes, such as matrix metalloproteinase-9 (MMP-9). To analyze the association of MMP-9 expression of NPC patients with cervical lymph node metastasis. The study was conducted in oncology unit of ORL-HNS at Dr. Soetomo General Hospital Surabaya from May to July 2015. Formalin-fixed paraffin-embedded biopsy specimens from NPC patients with WHO type II and III of histopathology and clinically were divided into four state of cervical enlargement (N0. N1. N2 and N3). The expression of MMP-9 was obtained with immunohistochemistry using rabbit polyclonal antibody Anti-MMP9 ab7299 from abcam®. Cambridge-UK. Thirty-two NPC patients were enrolled in this study. The study found a negative expression of MMP-9 in 3.12% of samples. Spearman rho test result was p = 0.001 with correlation coefficient of 0.754. Spearman test resulted p value of 0.001 with a correlation coefficient of 0.754. Correlation of matrix metalloproteinase-9 expression with cervical lymph node metastasis (N0, N1, N2, and N3) in patients with NPC showed a significant result (p < 0.05). There was a strong positive correlation between MMP-9 expressions with cervical lymph node status in NPC patients
