Bringing tasks back in: an organizational theory of resource complementarity and partner selection
To progress beyond the idea that the value of inter-firm collaboration is largely determined by the complementarity of the resources held by partners, we build a theoretical framework that explains under which conditions a set of resources or capabilities can be considered as complementary and resulting in superior value creation. Specifically, we argue that the tasks that an inter-firm collaboration has to perform determine complementarities, and that complementarities arise from similar and dissimilar resources alike. We capture this relationship in the concept of task resource complementarity. Further, we examine factors that impact on the relevance of this construct as a predictor of partner selection. Finally, we discuss which implications arise for a theory of the firm when tasks are explicitly incorporated into the conceptualization of resource complementarity

Spin nematic interaction in multiferroic compound BaCoGeO
We demonstrate the existence of the spin nematic interactions in an
easy-plane type antiferromagnet BaCoGeO by exploring the
magnetic anisotropy and spin dynamics. Combination of neutron scattering and
magnetic susceptibility measurements reveals that the origin of the in-plane
anisotropy is an antiferro-type interaction of the spin nematic operator. The
relation between the nematic operator and the electric polarization in the
ligand symmetry of this compound is presented. The introduction of the spin
nematic interaction is useful to understand the physics of spin and electric
dipole in multiferroic compounds.Comment: 5 pages, 4 figure
Hawking Radiation from Fluctuating Black Holes
Classically, black Holes have the rigid event horizon. However, quantum
mechanically, the event horizon of black holes becomes fuzzy due to quantum
fluctuations. We study Hawking radiation of a real scalar field from a
fluctuating black hole. To quantize metric perturbations, we derive the
quadratic action for those in the black hole background. Then, we calculate the
cubic interaction terms in the action for the scalar field. Using these
results, we obtain the spectrum of Hawking radiation in the presence of
interaction between the scalar field and the metric. It turns out that the
spectrum deviates from the Planck spectrum due to quantum fluctuations of the

A framework for gene mapping in wheat demonstrated using the Yr7 yellow rust resistance gene
We used three approaches to map the yellow rust resistance gene Yr7 and identify associated SNPs in wheat. First, we used a traditional QTL mapping approach using a double haploid (DH) population and mapped Yr7 to a low-recombination region of chromosome 2B. To fine map the QTL, we then used an association mapping panel. Both populations were SNP array genotyped allowing alignment of QTL and genome-wide association scans based on common segregating SNPs. Analysis of the association panel spanning the QTL interval, narrowed the interval down to a single haplotype block. Finally, we used mapping-by-sequencing of resistant and susceptible DH bulks to identify a candidate gene in the interval showing high homology to a previously suggested Yr7 candidate and to populate the Yr7 interval with a higher density of polymorphisms. We highlight the power of combining mapping-by-sequencing, delivering a complete list of gene-based segregating polymorphisms in the interval with the high recombination, low LD precision of the association mapping panel. Our mapping-by-sequencing methodology is applicable to any trait and our results validate the approach in wheat, where with a near complete reference genome sequence, we are able to define a small interval containing the causative gene
