AbstractWe give conditions for two elliptic or parabolic operators to have the same domain of definition in the space C, which are expressed very simply in terms of their coefficients and are both necessary and sufficient. Moreover, we show that, although two generic operators have different domains of definition, certain intermediate spaces between these domains and the whole space always coincide

Imbedding theorems for elliptic and parabolic operators in the space C

AbstractIt is well known that a uniformly elliptic expression of order 2m with Hölder continuous coefficients generates an elliptic differential operator in the space C whose domain of definition is strictly included between C2m and C2m − ε. By using an appropriate notion of derivatives of fractional order, we give a more precise description of the imbedding of this domain of definition. Analogous results are established for parabolic operators
