    Creating Control Amidst the Chaos: Collaborating on a Controlled Vocabulary During COVID

    While having a controlled vocabulary for our IR was an aspiration, with limited staffing and ad hoc additions, it was not a priority. Some items were added with keywords, most often supplied by faculty focused solely on their subject area, and others had no keywords. It seemed with every addition, the idea of implementing—and more importantly editing earlier submissions—slipped further away. However, when the shift to remote work meant that staff needed projects, many items on the IR wish list became a reality, including the controlled vocabulary. During this session, we will walk you through the process of how we assessed what we had, implemented order, and made a plan of how to maintain (and expand) the controlled vocabulary going forward. You will hear about what worked, what did not, and how we turned our 2020 lemons into some pretty sweet IR lemonade

    This Position Paper from the Academy of Nutrition Sciences is the third in a series which describe the nature of the scientific evidence and frameworks that underpin nutrition recommendations for health. This paper focuses on evidence which guides the application of dietary recommendations for individuals. In some situations, modified nutrient intake becomes essential to prevent deficiency, optimise development and health, or manage symptoms and disease progression. Disease and its treatment can also affect taste, appetite and ability to access and prepare foods, with associated financial impacts. Therefore, the practice of nutrition and dietetics must integrate and apply the sciences of food, nutrition, biology, physiology, behaviour, management, communication and society to achieve and maintain human health. Thus, there is huge complexity in delivering evidence-based nutrition interventions to individuals. This paper examines available frameworks for appraising the quality and certainty of nutrition research evidence, the development nutrition practice guidelines to support evidence implementation in practice and the influence of other sources of nutrition information and misinformation. The paper also considers major challenges in applying research evidence to an individual and suggests consensus recommendations to begin to address these challenges in the future. Our recommendations target three groups; those who deliver nutrition interventions to individuals, those funding, commissioning or undertaking research aimed at delivering evidence-based nutrition practice, and those disseminating nutritional information to individuals

    From the time immemorial marital infidelity has seriously impacted on the sustainability of family structure and peaceful co-existence among families in Yorubaland in particular and Nigeria in general Since family is considered as the basic unit of the society and whatever happens at the family level has a favourable or an adverse effect on the society Therefore a morally strong family setting is a morally strong society Existing studies on marital infidelity its attendant consequences and control have to a large extent been restricted to legal dramatic literary and modern conflict resolution methods with little reference to the use of Edi festival song as an important method of controlling this deviant behaviour in traditional marriage institution in the entire discourse Some of the methods of controlling deviant behaviour mentioned above are geared towards using various contemporary approaches to address issue of marital infidelity associated with traditional marriage institution in the society The methods employed in carrying out this research are the interview and the Focus Group Discussion Our findings revealed how those with deviant behaviour of marital infidelity were exposed and dealt with in songs laced with satire While some fled the communities out of shame others were made to pay fine and promised not to commit such anti-social act again Recommendations will be offered on the need for stakeholders in traditional marriage institution to be alert to their responsibilities and how such festival songs can be incorporated into the modern methods of controlling marital infidelity in order to enhance a morally stable family structure which will translate to a peaceful and a crime free societ

    Re-thinking Personal Narrative in the Pedagogy of Writing Teacher Preparation

    How can teacher educators mobilize contemporary understandings of personal narrative -- as socially and dialogically shaped in the context of culture and as instrumental to sociocultural processes of self-authoring -- in the teaching of narrative writing and, more specifically, in the work of teaching teachers to teach narrative writing? Rarely do teachers teach strategies that might result in good narratives. Rarely do narrative texts written in school (or any other kinds of texts written in school, for that matter) actually go anywhere beyond the teacher, thus failing to offer students experience in negotiating meanings with readers, working out the versions of self in context that narrative writing can foster. Teaching personal narrative well, in ways that are consistent with a social and dialogic view of personal narrative’s value and the identity work it can support, has proven challenging. This essay describes and reflects on one effort to do so in a teacher education setting. We introduce the example of a class-to-class partnership between teacher candidates and first-year college writers not as a success story or an exemplar, but rather as a problematic case to stimulate conversation about the challenges of narrative writing teacher preparation

    Improving Mental Health Outcomes for Young Children Through the Implementation of the Primary Project

    Primary Project (formerly known as Primary Mental Health Project) is one of the longest standing and wellestablished school-based preventative mental health interventions for addressing the social, emotional, behavioral, and learning needs of preschool through primary grade children. Existing now for over 60 years and building on its historical antecedents, this article describes the history, current state, and future implications of Primary Project. We discuss children’s mental health needs and the role of the school in addressing these needs. We present Primary Project’s current research efforts with a specific focus on University-community studies in Arkansas and Massachusetts. Implications for future research and school based counseling and policy and evaluation are addressed

    Psychoanalysis in Post-Apartheid South Africa

    The following paper seeks to describe the trajectory of psychoanalytic endeavours in South Africa since the political thaw of the 1990s. The first part, written by Elda Storck – van Reenen, centres on the alignment of psychoanalytic training to international standards and the formation of institutions to contain these developments. Encouraging demographic and professional diversity and addressing the deficit of personal therapy – «Selbsterfahrung» – in formal training modalities are of primary importance. The second part, written by Mary-Anne Smith, elaborates on the application of basic psychoanalytic concepts to community and outreach work in an impoverished and traumatized society. In addition, the aspiration of engaging the interest and support of governmental agencies around the value and relevance of psychoanalytic thinking for primary and preventative health care is explored

They show great promise as targets of treatment and as markers for common human diseases, such as cancer and metabolic diseases. In this review, we address some of the basic questions regarding micro- RNA function in human disease and the clinical significance of microRNAs. Specifically, micro- RNAs in epigenetics, cancer, and metabolic diseases are discussed, with examples taken from cholangiocarcinoma and nonalcoholic fatty liver disease
