    Are polar rings indeed polar?

    We have considered polar ring galaxy candidates, the images of which can be found in the SDSS. The sample of 78 galaxies includes the most reliable candidates from the SPRC and PRC catalogs, some of which already have kinematic confirmations. We analyze the distributions of studied objects by the angle between the polar ring and the central disk, and by the optical diameter of the outer ring structures. In the vast majority of cases, the outer structures lie in the plane close to polar (within 10-20 deg) which indicates the stability of the corresponding orbits in the gravitational potential of the halo. Moderately inclined outer structures are observed only in about 6% of objects which probably indicates their short lifetime. In such an unstable configuration, the polar ring would often cross the disk of the galaxy, being smaller than it in the diameter. We show that the inner polar structures and outer large-scale polar rings form a single family in the distribution of diameters normalized to the optical size of the galaxy. At the same time, this distribution is bimodal, as the number of objects with d_ring= (0.4-0.7)*d_disk is negligible. Such a shape of size distribution is most likely due to the fact that the stability of polar orbits in the inner regions of galaxies is maintained by the bulge or the bar, while in the outer regions it is provided by the spheroidal (or triaxial) halo.Comment: Corrected version accepted in Astrophysical Bulletin, 8 pages, 5 EPS figure

    Relation between parameters of dust and parameters of molecular and atomic gas in extragalactic star-forming regions

    The relationships between atomic and molecular hydrogen and dust of various sizes in extragalactic star-forming regions are considered, based on observational data from the Spitzer and Herschel infrared space telescopes, the Very Large Array (atomic hydrogen emission) and IRAM (CO emission). The source sample consists of approximately 300 star-forming regions in 11 nearby galaxies. Aperture photometry has been applied to measure the fluxes in eight infrared bands (3.6, 4.5, 5.8, 8, 24, 70, 100, and 160μ\mum), the atomic hydrogen (21cm) line and CO (2--1) lines. The parameters of the dust in the starforming regions were determined via synthetic-spectra fitting, such as the total dust mass, the fraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), etc. Comparison of the observed fluxes with the measured parameters shows that the relationships between atomic hydrogen, molecular hydrogen, and dust are different in low- and high-metallicity regions. Low-metallicity regions contain more atomic gas, but less molecular gas and dust, including PAHs. The mass of dust constitutes about 1%1\% of the mass of molecular gas in all regions considered. Fluxes produced by atomic and molecular gas do not correlate with the parameters of the stellar radiation, whereas the dust fluxes grow with increasing mean intensity of stellar radiation and the fraction of enhanced stellar radiation. The ratio of the fluxes at 8 and 24μ\mum, which characterizes the PAH content, decreases with increasing intensity of the stellar radiation, possibly indicating evolutionary variations of the PAH content. The results confirm that the contribution of the 24μ\mum emission to the total IR luminosity of extragalactic star-forming regions does not depend on the metallicity.Comment: Published in Astronomy Reports, 2017, vol. 61, issue

    В галактиках со смещенными барами NGC 4618 и NGC 4631 выделены области звездообразования (ОЗО) по данным наблюдений в инфракрасном (ИК) диапазоне: ближнем (3.6, 4.5, 5.8, 8.0 мкм) и среднем (24 мкм), а также в ультрафиолетовом диапазоне: ближнем (GALEX NUV) и дальнем (GALEX FUV). Для выделенных ОЗО оценены потоки излучения. Полученные результаты сопоставлены с данными для галактики с полярным кольцом NGC 660.Star-forming regions (SFR) are selected in offcentre-bar galaxies NGC 4618 and NGC 4631 based on observations in the infrared (IR) range: near-IR (3.6, 4.5, 5.8, 8.0 μm) and mid-IR (24 μm), and also in the ultraviolet range: (GALEX NUV) and the far (GALEX FUV).     Mejora de la gestión del sistema educativo en una organización de educación secundaria

    The purpose of the article is the development and implementation of a model for managing educational system in a secondary education organization. To implement the model within the school, experimental work was carried out. It was carried out during two years from 2017 to 2018 and included several stages. The article reveals the essence of education and management of educational system for personality development of future school graduates. The authors analyze the activities of the school in the city of Dzerzhinsk in order to identify ways to improve educational system and its management. At the end of experimental work, it was found out that introduction of a management model of educational system into school’s activities made it possible to increase the level of familiarization of students to various areas of educational activities. The trainees took part in three municipal target programs the content of which was represented by various educational activities that favorably affect students’ personality development. Consequently, innovations introduced into the management system in the educational system have a positive effect on students, which proves the effectiveness of the model developed by the authors.El propósito del artículo es el desarrollo e implementación de un modelo para administrar el sistema educativo en una organización de educación secundaria. Para implementar el modelo dentro de la escuela, se realizó un trabajo experimental. Se llevó a cabo durante dos años, de 2017 a 2018, e incluyó varias etapas. El artículo revela la esencia de la educación y la gestión del sistema educativo para el desarrollo de la personalidad de los futuros graduados escolares. Los autores analizan las actividades de la escuela en la ciudad de Dzerzhinsk para identificar formas de mejorar el sistema educativo y su gestión. Al final del trabajo experimental, se descubrió que la introducción de un modelo de gestión del sistema educativo en las actividades escolares permitía aumentar el nivel de familiarización de los estudiantes con diversas áreas de actividades educativas. Los alumnos participaron en tres programas de objetivos municipales cuyo contenido estaba representado por diversas actividades educativas que afectan favorablemente el desarrollo de la personalidad de los estudiantes. En consecuencia, las innovaciones introducidas en el sistema de gestión en el sistema educativo tienen un efecto positivo en los estudiantes, lo que demuestra la efectividad del modelo desarrollado por los autores

    Studies of Star-forming Complexes in the Galaxies NGC 628, NGC 2976, and NGC 3351

    The parameters of the radiation of interstellar matter in star-forming complexes in the high-metallicity galaxies NGC 628, NGC 2976, and NGC 3351, which have different morphological types, are analyzed. The relationship between the emission in Hα and in lines of CO and HI is considered, as well as the relationship between Hα and the emission of dust in the infrared range (IR). The fluxes and surface brightnesses in the UV and IR correlate well with the Hα emission. The HI emission also correlates well with Hα, while the correlation between the CO and Hα emission is much weaker. The ratio of the fluxes at 8 and 24 µm decreases with increasing Hα flux. This may be due to changes in the properties of the dust ensemble (a decrease in the mass fraction of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons) or to changing excitation conditions. Analysis of the kinematics of the CO lines shows that the CO flux grows with increasing velocity scatter ΔV when ΔV ≾ 70 km/s. Preliminary evidence for the existence of star-forming complexes with higher values of ΔV is provided, when the increase in the velocity scatter is accompanied by a decrease in the CO luminosity of the complex. © 2019, Pleiades Publishing, Ltd

    A New Catalogue of Polar-Ring Galaxies Selected from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey

    Galaxies with polar rings (PRGs) are a unique class of extragalactic objects. Using these, we can investigate a wide range of problems, linked to the formation and evolution of galaxies, and we can study the properties of their dark haloes. The progress that has been made in the study of PRGs has been constrained by the small number of known objects of this type. The Polar Ring Catalogue (PRC) by Whitmore et al. and their photographic atlas of PRGs and related objects includes 157 galaxies. At present, there are only about two dozen kinematically confirmed galaxies in this PRG class, mostly from the PRC. We present a new catalogue of PRGs, supplementing the PRC and significantly increasing the number of known candidate PRGs. The catalogue is based on the results of the original Galaxy Zoo project. Within this project, volunteers performed visual classifications of nearly a million galaxies from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS). Based on the preliminary classifications of the Galaxy Zoo, we viewed more than 40000 images of the SDSS and selected 275 galaxies to include in our catalogue. Our SDSS-based Polar Ring Catalogue (SPRC) contains 70 galaxies that we have classified as 'the best candidates'. Among these, we expect to have a very high proportion of true PRGs, and 115 good PRG candidates. There are 53 galaxies classified as PRG-related objects (mostly galaxies with strongly warped discs, and mergers). In addition, we have identified 37 galaxies that have their presumed polar rings strongly inclined to the line of sight (seen almost face-on). The SPRC objects are, on average, fainter and are located further away than the galaxies from the PRC, although our catalogue does include dozens of new nearby candidate PRGs. The SPRC significantly increases the number of genuine PRG candidates. It might serve as a good basis for both a further detailed study of individual galaxies and a statistical analysis of PRGs as a separate class of objects. We have performed spectroscopic observations of six galaxies from the SPRC at the 6-m Big Telescope Alt-Azimuthal (BTA). The existence of polar rings was confirmed in five galaxies, and one object appeared to be a projection of a pair of galaxies. Adding the data from the literature, we can already classify 10 galaxies from our catalogue as kinematically confirmed PRGs. © 2011 The Authors Monthly Notices of the Royal Astronomical Society © 2011 RAS

    Following overseas examples, educational institutions in Russia are trying to interact with other organizations implementing practical competence approach. The relevance of the topic lies in the fact that modern educational environment is constantly changing both due to the dynamics of everyday and professional conditions. Due to competence approach constant monitoring and new resources are required for the development of each subject in this educational environment. The goal of the work is to create means for open social and educational environment realization which allows achieving positive results for all participants in the project. In this article, the authors raise the issue of modern educational environment creation as a resource for each subject of the educational process development.The article attempts to improve students’, teachers’ and others participants’ interested in educational environment development interaction. We try to achieve a qualitatively new level of participants’ skills and competencies development in this process. For this, analysis of the essence and structure of educational process in a higher educational institution was carried out. After that, the authors propose, within the framework of a project implemented by Nizhny Novgorod State Pedagogical University on the organization and development of the social and educational environment, to conduct special computer literacy courses for the elderly. The courses offered combine the activities of a large number of people who, working for a common result, achieve the development of individual qualities. The results obtained are the basis for further improvement of educational environment.Siguiendo ejemplos en el extranjero, las instituciones educativas en Rusia están tratando de interactuar con otras organizaciones implementando un enfoque de competencia práctica. La relevancia del tema radica en el hecho de que el entorno educativo moderno está cambiando constantemente debido a la dinámica de las condiciones cotidianas y profesionales. Debido al enfoque de competencia, el monitoreo constante y nuevos recursos son necesarios para el desarrollo de cada asignatura en este entorno educativo. El objetivo del trabajo es crear medios para la realización de un entorno social y educativo abierto que permita lograr resultados positivos para todos los participantes en el proyecto. En este artículo, los autores plantean el tema de la creación de un entorno educativo moderno como un recurso para cada tema del desarrollo del proceso educativo.El artículo intenta mejorar la interacción entre los estudiantes, los maestros y otros participantes interesados en el desarrollo del entorno educativo. Intentamos alcanzar un nivel cualitativamente nuevo de desarrollo de habilidades y competencias de los participantes en este proceso. Para ello, se realizó un análisis de la esencia y estructura del proceso educativo en una institución de educación superior. Posteriormente, los autores proponen, en el marco de un proyecto implementado por la Universidad Pedagógica Estatal Nizhny Novgorod sobre la organización y el desarrollo del entorno social y educativo, realizar cursos especiales de alfabetización informática para personas mayores. Los cursos ofrecidos combinan las actividades de un gran número de personas que, trabajando por un resultado común, logran el desarrollo de cualidades individuales.Na sequência de exemplos no exterior, instituições educacionais na Rússia estão tentando interagir com outras organizações implementando uma abordagem de competência prática.
