Adolescence is an important period for developing social and emotional habits that are important for mental well-being. This research aimed to know the effectiveness of intervention programs to improve emotional regulation in adolescents with mental disorders. Preparation using the PICO approach, determination of inclusion and exclusion criteria, and a literature review of scientific English articles published between 2016 and 2023 were conducted. Data were obtained from the SCOPUS, Science Direct, SpringerLink, ProQuest, and SAGE databases. Assessment of the title, abstract, and full text of the article with the keywords "Adolescent," "Child," "Teenager," "Emotion regulation," "Emotion exposure," "Intervention," "Mental Disorders," "Randomised Control Trial." The systematic review report was reviewed critically to ensure that all PRISMA steps and items were included. Nine articles met the inclusion criteria. The choice of programs and methods of intervention may vary depending on the specific mental disorders and individual needs of adolescents. Nursing interventions, including cognitive behavioral therapy, mindfulness-based interventions, group therapy, support groups, and school-based programs, are widely used to manage and treat mental health disorders with the aim of improving well-being and recovery. The effectiveness of intervention programs varies, and selection should consider adolescent needs, resources, and cultural contexts. Consulting mental health professionals or organizations is recommended

Introducing a healthy lifestyle among young adults enrolled at higher learning institutions via health promotion is best to improve health. This study investigates the effects of lifestyle modification intervention programs (LMIP) on perceived benefit-barrier behaviour, self-efficacy, health-promoting lifestyle behaviour, and MetS parameter. This two-phase study: cross-sectional and two-arm randomized controlled trial involved 124 young adults who full-fill the criteria randomly assigned either intervention or control groups. The intervention group will receive LMIP, while the controlled group will receive an information booklet. Data will be collected at four-time points and analyzed using a mixed-design analysis of variance (ANOVA). This study aimed to determine learning style preferences among online distance learning (e-PJJ) bachelor degree students in the Faculty of Health Sciences UiTM Puncak Alam and its’ relationship with students’ characteristic likes age, gender, marital status, program, semester, study hours per day, Cumulative Grade Points Average (CGPA) and number of days absent in class (last semester). Data collection is obtained from 201 e-PJJ students involved in five programs of Health Sciences. Gathered data was entered and analyzed by using the statistical package for the social science (SPSS) version 21 software. In this study, it is set out that perceptive is the most preferred learning style among ePJJ students then followed by imaginative, analytic, solitary and competitive. Significant differences were found in competitive and imaginative learning styles with gender (p<0.05). Competitive learning style and marital status, its’ showed a significant difference (p<0.05). Imaginative learning style showed a weak correlation with CGPA (rs=-0.140, p=0.047). The perceptive learning style also presented a weak correlation with study hours (rs=-0.159, p=0.024). In general, learning style preferences were influenced by students’ characteristics. Therefore, it can be suggested that further comprehensive research is needed to understand the important factors that influenced learning style preferences among online distance learning (e-PJJ) students

Efficacy of Programs Designed to Reduce the Incidence of Premarital Sexual Behavior Among Adolescents: A Systematic Review

    Get PDF
The incidence of premarital sexual behavior worldwide is increasing despite the fact that it is known that it may cause health and psychological problems. Hence, interventions are needed to reduce the incidence of premarital sexual behavior. The aim of this study was to provide an overview of the reported interventions used to reduce the incidence of premarital sexual behavior in adolescents and identify the implications for nursing practice. A systematic review was conducted using The Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic reviews and Meta-Analyses (PRISMA) guidelines. The Scopus, Science Direct, Web of Science, and ProQuest databases were searched using the keywords "premarital sexual behavior” and “sexual,” and three researchers independently examined the resultant selected full-text articles. Articles published between 2020 and 2022 that described studies with a randomized controlled trial (RCT) design and that were published in English and had the full text available were included. The quality of each article was assessed using the Joanna Briggs Institute Critical Appraisal Checklist. Seven articles met the inclusion criteria and were subsequently analyzed. Our study showed that different types of interventions have been tested to variously enhance education, motivation, skills, and empowerment. The findings of our study have implications for nursing practice in terms of the creation of intervention-based programs and standard operating procedures for implementing programs designed to reduce the prevalence of premarital sexual behavior. Get PDF
This study aims to develop and validate a food frequency questionnaire for ultra-processed food (FFQ-UPF) among Malaysian adults and will utilise a cross-sectional study design. Ultra-processed food items will be identified from the subjects’ three days 24-hour dietary recalls and a primary ultra-processed food checklist. Frequency options and portion sizes will be determined from the literature review. Expert panels will validate the items’ validity and relevancy and the newly developed FFQ-UPF will be pilot tested to the target population. It will also be validated against three days of 24-hour diet recall and will be retested two weeks after criterion validation. Evaluation of an intervention program to promote neck care for computer user among staff and students of a Malaysian public university

Background: Computers are one of the most useful equipment developed in this electronic era. However incorrect posture and prolonged use of computers are risk factors for developing neck pain. A health promotion program was developed to educate computer users regarding neck care. The program was then evaluated to observe its effects in increasing knowledge, attitude and practice among the respondents. Materials and Methods: This was an intervention study conducted in a local public university. A set of materials consisting of a pamphlet, posters and questionnaire, were developed for the study. The pamphlet and posters were based on a study on exercises performed while sitting, while the questionnaire was based on a study assessing a neck care intervention program. The materials were assessed and validated prior to the program. Study variables were respondents’ characteristics, knowledge, attitude and practice/intention to practice neck care. The knowledge, attitude and practice/intention to practice were measured at baseline and post intervention and the changes were compared. Result: A total of 41 respondents participated. At baseline, only 61% of the respondents knew that daily computer use for 2 hours or more increased the risk of developing neck problem, however the percentage increased significantly after the program (P=0.001). The attitude toward the necessity to do exercise while working in front of the computer was 85.5% at the beginning but had also increased significantly after the program (P=0.008). All parameters forming the intention to practice good neck care (i.e. to sit with straight upper back, to do simple neck exercise while working in front of the computer and to adjust sitting position to maintain good posture) were significantly increased (P<0.05) after the intervention program. Conclusion: The knowledge and attitude regarding good neck care and the intention to practice good neck care significantly improved after the intervention program. More intervention programs to promote neck care for computer users should be carried out
