Explaining the elongated shape of 'Oumuamua by the Eikonal abrasion model

The photometry of the minor body with extrasolar origin (1I/2017 U1) 'Oumuamua revealed an unprecedented shape: Meech et al. (2017) reported a shape elongation b/a close to 1/10, which calls for theoretical explanation. Here we show that the abrasion of a primordial asteroid by a huge number of tiny particles ultimately leads to such elongated shape. The model (called the Eikonal equation) predicting this outcome was already suggested in Domokos et al. (2009) to play an important role in the evolution of asteroid shapes.Comment: Accepted by the Research Notes of the AA

In 1641, Prince George Rákóczi I donated the congregation of Kolozsvár a golden chalice decorated with medallions and enamel ornaments. At the end of the 19th century this ornamental article of unique beauty had no longer been in use; therefore the session decided to sell it. They wanted to sell the artwork to the Hungarian National Museum at a price of 100,000 crowns, which would have been used for church construction. In spite of long negotiations after 1908, no agreement was reached. In 1914, the chief elder, Bálint Kolosváry, secretly deposited the chalice at the Hungarian National Museum; however, other leaders of the congregation did not know anything about it for years. At the beginning of 1926, the originally requested purchase price was paid; the congregation used this sum of money converted into Lei for the construction of an all girls’ grammar school and a parish house in the city centre
