Deviation inequalities for bifurcating Markov chains on Galton-Watson tree

    Get PDF
We provide deviation inequalities for properly normalized sums of bifurcating Markov chains on Galton-Watson tree. These processes are extension of bifurcating Markov chains (which was introduced by Guyon to detect cellular aging from cell lineage) in case the index set is a binary Galton-Watson process. As application, we derive deviation inequalities for the least-squares estimator of autoregressive parameters of bifurcating autoregressive processes with missing data. These processes allow, in case of cell division, to take into account the cell's death. The results are obtained under an uniform geometric ergodicity assumption of an embedded Markov chain.Comment: 24 pages, 2 figures. arXiv admin note: text overlap with arXiv:1111.7303 by other author

Parallelizing RRT on large-scale distributed-memory architectures

    Get PDF
This paper addresses the problem of parallelizing the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm on large-scale distributed-memory architectures, using the Message Passing Interface. We compare three parallel versions of RRT based on classical parallelization schemes. We evaluate them on different motion planning problems and analyze the various factors influencing their performance

Enhancing the Transition-based RRT to deal with complex cost spaces

The Transition-based RRT (T-RRT) algorithm enables to solve motion planning problems involving configuration spaces over which cost functions are defined, or cost spaces for short. T-RRT has been successfully applied to diverse problems in robotics and structural biology. In this paper, we aim at enhancing T-RRT to solve ever more difficult problems involving larger and more complex cost spaces. We compare several variants of T-RRT by evaluating them on various motion planning problems involving different types of cost functions and different levels of geometrical complexity. First, we explain why applying as such classical extensions of RRT to T-RRT is not helpful, both in a mono-directional and in a bidirectional context. Then, we propose an efficient Bidirectional T-RRT, based on a bidirectional scheme tailored to cost spaces. Finally, we illustrate the new possibilities offered by the Bidirectional T-RRT on an industrial inspection problem

This paper addresses the problem of improving the performance of the Rapidly-exploring Random Tree (RRT) algorithm by parallelizing it. For scalability reasons we do so on a distributed-memory architecture, using the message-passing paradigm. We present three parallel versions of RRT along with the technicalities involved in their implementation. We also evaluate the algorithms and study how they behave on different motion planning problems

Transportation cost-information and concentration inequalities for bifurcating Markov chains

We investigate the transportation cost-information inequalities for bifurcating Markov chains which are a class of processes indexed by binary tree. These processes provide models for cell growth when each individual in one generation gives birth to two offsprings in the next one. Transportation cost inequalities provide useful concentra-tion inequalities. We also study deviation inequalities for the empiri-cal means under relaxed assumptions on the Wasserstein contraction of the Markov kernels. Applications to bifurcating non linear autore-gressive processes are considered: deviation inequalities for pointwise estimates of the non linear leading functions

Impact non linéaire de la dette publique sur la croissance: Evidence à partir des pays de l'Afrique Subsaharienne

International audienceThis paper empirically explores the impact of public debt on economic growth in Sub-Saharan African (SSA) countries over the period 1960 to 2015 by using a system Generalized Methods of Moments (s-GMM). Specifically, this work studies the nonlinear relationship between public debt and economic growth. To do so, we perform the Sasabuchi-Lind-Mehlum's test (or U-test) to check if the required and sufficient conditions are met for an inverted U-shape. The results strongly suggest the presence of a nonlinear relationship between public debt and economic growth. By applying the Delta method, this threshold is evaluated at about 36.18 percent ratio debt-to-GDP with its confidence interval associated (13, 59). The public debt boosts the economic growth when its level is less than this turning point. Above this threshold, an increase in public debt would lower the economic growth. Accordingly, a re-examination of the public debt level of some convergence policies which set this level (debt-to-GDP ratio) to 70 per cent (cf. and 2) is proposed.

Sustainable Forest Management Crisis and Bribery in Cameroon: An Empirical Investigation of the Mookherjee and P'ng Model

    Get PDF
The author tries to use the Mookherjee and P'ng model to analyze bribery as one of the key explanatory variables for the sustainable forest management crisis in Cameroon. The analysis of field data shows that the public administration of forest in this country does not have the incentive and dissuasive instruments recommended by the anti-bribery model. The author therefore recommends that the Administration should use these instruments in an attempt to remedy the crisis. The Banner and the Altar Frontal of saint Ot: The Grave Goods of the Holy Bishop of the Cathedral of La Seu d’Urgell?

The banner of saint Ot and the altar frontal of the Victoria and Albert Museum, two embroideries rediscovered at the beginning of the 20th century in the cathedral of la Seu d’Urgell, are two relevant objects of the Spanish Romanesque among, for example, the famous “Creation” tapestry from the Cathedral of Girona. Both objects needed a historical and artistic review to analyse their links, and to narrow down their possible place of production, maybe a local embroidery workshop placed in a women’s monastery nearby the episcopal chair and under the protection of the family of the count. So, the banner and the altar frontal, created in relation with the new worship of the figure of saint Ot, were shown together in exceptional events celebrated at the cathedral
