    Correlational analysis between joint-level kinetics of countermovement jumps and weightlifting derivatives

    The purpose of this study was to investigate the mechanical similarity between net joint moments (NJM) of the countermovement jump (CMJ) and the hang power clean (HPC) and jump shrug (JS). Twelve male Lacrosse players performed three maximal effort CMJs and three repetitions of the HPC and JS at 30%, 50%, and 70% of their HPC one repetition maximum (1-RM). Ground reaction forces and motion capture data were used to calculate the NJM of the hip, knee, and ankle joints during each exercise. Statistical comparison of the peak NJM indicated that NJM during the HPC and JS across all loads were equal to or greater than the NJM during the CMJ (all p < 0.025). In addition, correlation analyses indicated that CMJ hip NJM were associated (all p < 0.025) with HPC hip NJM at 30% and 70% (r = 0.611-0.822) and JS hip NJM at 50% and 70% (r = 0.674-0.739), whereas CMJ knee NJM were associated with HPC knee NJM at 70% (r = 0.638) and JS knee NJM at 50% and 70% (r = 0.664-0.732). Further, CMJ ankle NJM were associated with HPC ankle NJM at 30% and 50% (r = 0.615-0.697) and JS ankle NJM at 30%, 50%, and 70% (r = 0.735-0.824). Lastly, knee and ankle NJM during the JS were greater than during the HPC at 30% and 50% of 1-RM (all p < 0.017). The degree of mechanical similarity between the CMJ and the HPC and JS is dependent on the respective load and joint. [Abstract copyright: © Journal of Sports Science and Medicine.

    A simple coronary CT angiography-based jeopardy score for the identification of extensive coronary artery disease: Validation against invasive coronary angiography

    PURPOSE The invasive British Cardiovascular Intervention Society Jeopardy Score (iBCIS-JS) is a simple angiographic scoring system, enabling quantification of the extent of jeopardized myocardium related to clinically significant coronary artery disease (CAD). The purpose of this study was to develop and validate the coronary CT angiography-based BCIS-JS (CT-BCIS-JS) against the iBCIS-JS in patients with suspected or stable CAD. MATERIALS AND METHODS Patients who underwent coronary CT angiography followed by invasive coronary angiography, within 90 days were retrospectively included. CT-BCIS-JS and iBCIS-JS were calculated, with a score ≄ 6 indicating extensive CAD. Correlation between the CT-BCIS-JS and iBCIS-JS was searched for using Spearman's coefficient, and agreement with weighted Kappa (Îș) analyses. RESULTS A total of 122 patients were included. There were 102 men and 20 women with a median age of 62 years (Q1, Q3: 54, 68; age range: 19-83 years). No differences in median CT-BCIS-JS (4; Q1, Q3: 0, 8) and median iBCIS-JS (4; Q1, Q3: 0, 8) were found (P = 0.18). Extensive CAD was identified in 53 (43.4%) and 52 (42.6%) patients using CT-BCIS-JS and iBCIS-JS, respectively (P = 0.88). CT-based and iBCIS-JS showed excellent correlation (r = 0.98; P < 0.001) and almost perfect agreement (Îș = 0.93; 95% confidence interval: 0.90-0.97). Agreement for identification of an iBCIS-JS ≄ 6 was almost perfect (Îș = 0.94; 95 % confidence interval: 0.87-0.99). CONCLUSION The CT-BCIS-JS represents a feasible, and accurate method for quantification of CAD, with capabilities not different from those of iBCIS-JS. It enables simple, non-invasive identification of patients with anatomically extensive CAD

    Artist Bio & Statement: Johannah Silva is a Chicago-based artist. She received her MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago in 1999 and currently teaches full-time at Wright College. In the last few years, I have been making work using the circular shape/form as a starting point for my paintings and drawings. The circles allude to micro as well as macro forms, -- cells and atoms as well as planetary bodies, for example. My working process involves the repetition and placement of these shapes and marks on the painting surface, in consideration with formal elements such as color and space, to arrive at surprising and discovered compositions that follow an internal logic. I am interested in theories and/or imagery derived from physics, chemistry, biology, astronomy and geology, and in philosophical and spiritual notions regarding concepts of space and time, being and nothingness, internal mind and exterior reality. Thinking about these things influence my work, though the end-result is ultimately arrived at through a personal and intuitive working process.     A Substantial Population of Red Galaxies at z > 2: Modeling of the Spectral Energy Distributions of an Extended Sample

    We investigate the nature of the substantial population of high-z galaxies with Js-Ks>2.3 discovered as part of our FIRES survey. This colour cut efficiently isolates z>2 galaxies with red rest-frame optical colors ("Distant Red Galaxies" or DRGs). We select objects in the 2.5'x2.5' HDF-South (HDF-S) and 5'x5' field around the MS1054-03 cluster; the surface densities at Ks<21 are 1.6+-0.6 and 1.0+-0.2 arcmin^-2. We discuss the 34 DRGs at 2<z<3.5: 11 at Ks<22.5 in HDF-S and 23 at Ks<21.7 in the MS1054-03 field. We analyze the SEDs constructed from our deep near-infrared (NIR) and optical imaging from the ESO VLT and HST. We develop diagnostics involving I-Js, Js-H, and H-Ks to argue that the red NIR colors of DRGs cannot be attributed solely to extinction and require for many an evolved stellar population with prominent Balmer/4000A break. In the rest-frame, the optical colours of DRGs fall within the envelope of normal nearby galaxies and the UV colours suggest a wide range in star formation activity and/or extinction. This contrasts with the much bluer and more uniform SEDs of Lyman break galaxies (LBGs). From evolutionary synthesis models with constant star formation, solar metallicity, Salpeter IMF, and Calzetti et al. extinction law, we derive for the HDF-S (MS1054-03 field) DRGs median ages of 1.7(2.0) Gyr, A_V = 2.7(2.4) mag, stellar masses 0.8(1.6)x10^11 Msun, M/L_V = 1.2(2.3) Msun/LVsun, and SFR = 120(170) Msun/yr. Models assuming declining SFRs with e-folding timescales of 10Myr-1Gyr generally imply younger ages, lower A_V's and SFRs, but similar stellar masses within a factor of two. Compared to LBGs at similar redshifts and rest-frame L_V's, DRGs are older, more massive, and more obscured for any given star formation history.     Oleoylethanolamide restores alcohol-induced inhibition of neuronal proliferation and microglial activity in striatum

    Previous findings demonstrate a homeostatic role for oleoylethanolamide (OEA) signaling in the ethanol-related neuroinflammation and behavior. However, extensive research is still required in order to unveil the effects of OEA on a number of neurobiological functions such as adult neurogenesis, cell survival and resident neuroimmunity that become notably altered by alcohol. Daily consumption of ethanol (10%) for 2 weeks (6.3& #x202F;± 1.1 g/kg/day during last 5 days) caused hypolocomotor activity in rats. This effect appears to rely on central signaling mechanisms given that alcohol increased the OEA levels, the gene expression of OEA-synthesizing enzyme Nape-pld and the number of PPARα-immunoreactive neurons in the striatum. Ethanol-related neurobiological alterations such as a reduction in the number of microglial cells expressing iNOS (a cytokine-inducible immune defense) and in adult neural stem/progenitor cell (NSPC) proliferation (phospho-H3 and BrdU) and maturation (BrdU/ÎČ3-tubulin), as well as an increase in damage cell activity (FosB) and apoptosis (cleaved caspase 3) were also observed in the rat striatum. Pharmacological administration of OEA (10 mg/kg) for 5 days during ethanol exposure exacerbated ethanol-induced hypolocomotion and cell apoptosis in the striatum. Interestingly, OEA abrogated the impaired effects of ethanol on PPARα-positive cell population and NSPC proliferation and maturation. OEA also decreased astrocyte-related vimentin immunoreactivity and increased microglial cell population (Iba-1, iNOS) in the striatum.     This research paper proposes an e-commerce cake shopping system: ‘Cake-Hut’ which will enable customers and cake bakery owners to handle their regular online selling and buying activities. Cake Hut is a Web Application where people can purchase customized cakes online from their favorite cake bakery according to their preferred designs or else, they can choose pre-defined cake designs from set of designs which were uploaded by sellers. The system is developed to replace the existing cake purchasing and order management methods, making it more effective and efficient while also addressing user needs. Agile software development methodology approach has been used to develop and test the system in a systematic manner, which includes the development phases of planning, design, and testing and implementation. This system is developed using React JS for frontend development and Express JS for backend development, MongoDB database, and runs on Node JS runtime environment

Garment factories are type of complex systems with several divisions that cannot be managed manually. Today in Sri Lanka, most of garment factories are conducted their processes separately in division wise. In this proposed system, stock, employee, supply and suppliers, and delivery management can be done together in a single system. Getting the appropriate material, in the right quantity, at the right time is a primary objective of supply and suppliers management. It confirms the supplier's stability and dependability. Purchasing is a critical and specialized role within a garment firm. This system provides a feature to store placed orders and their confirmed delivery date, and the procedure that is computerized. In essence, the receiving, storing, and distributing of supplies fall under the purview of the stock management. After stores the items while preventing deteriorations or harms that can be occurred, this division releases the stock also.[6] the proposed web application for a garment factory management system developed using mern stack (mongo db, express js, react js, node js). The system has four main functionalities for employee management, supplier management, inventory management, buyers, and delivery management. This system will give solutions to problems in currently using applications.     Gene expression regulation by upstream open reading frames in rare diseases

    Upstream open reading frames (uORFs) constitute a class of cis-acting elements that regulate translation initiation. Mutations or polymorphisms that alter, create or disrupt a uORF have been widely associated with several human disorders, including rare diseases. In this mini-review, we intend to highlight the mechanisms associated with the uORF-mediated translational regulation and describe recent examples of their deregulation in the etiology of human rare diseases. Additionally, we discuss new insights arising from ribosome profiling studies and reporter assays regarding uORF features and their intrinsic role in translational regulation.
