Ainda mostra a ampla influência e abrangência do projeto, pois mobiliza estudantes dos cursos de licenciatura e da educação básica, bem como professores que atuam nestas escolas, pois estes enquanto supervisores, se aproximam novamente da universidade potencializando o projeto e enriquecendo sua práxis pedagógica. Nesse sentido, o programa admite a importância de se construir ações conjuntas para melhoria da formação inicial e continuada de professores estimulando diferentes sujeitos e espaços, sendo que escola de educação básica ocupa um lugar privilegiado para a atuação dos futuros professore

    Vulnerabilidade de mogno-africano à predação por bovinos em sistema silvipastoril

    The objective of this work was to evaluate the incidence and intensity of damages caused by cattle to African mahogany (Khaya grandifoliola) and this species vulnerability in the silvipastural system. The trees were planted in single lines, in a 20x2 m arrangement. In the third year, cattle were introduced in the area. Three classes of damage intensity were established: low, medium, and high. Damages to tree barks showed the highest incidence, followed by damages to wood. The species is vulnerable to bark chewing by cattle, with damages of medium and high intensities.O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar a incidência e a intensidade de danos causados por bovinos ao mogno-africano (Khaya grandifoliola) e a vulnerabilidade desta espécie em sistema silvipastoril. As árvores foram plantadas em linhas simples, arranjadas em 20x2 m. No terceiro ano, os bovinos foram introduzidos na área. Foram estabelecidas três classes de intensidade de danos: baixa, média e alta. Os danos causados às cascas das árvores foram os de maior incidência, seguidos por danos causados ao lenho. A espécie é vulnerável à mastigação da casca por bovinos, com danos de média e alta intensidades

    YouTubeTM as a Tool to Teach Dentists about Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH): Analysis of Quality Content

    Objective: To evaluate the quality of information about Molar incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) on YouTubeTM. Material and Methods: Only videos in Portuguese aimed at dentists were included. The selected videos were analyzed by two calibrated evaluators, who extracted the information (classification, etiology, diagnosis, and treatment of MIH) and the quality was evaluated through a 20-point-checklist, according to the International Association of Pediatric Dentistry and European Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Descriptive analysis and statistical tests were applied to assess the association (ANOVA and Kruskal-Wallis) or correlation (Spearman) between the final scores of the videos and their demographics. Results: Nineteen videos with 13.8±4.76 mean points were considered eligible. Most of the videos did not report the possible involvement of other groups of teeth (n=12), presence of atypical restorations (n=8) and hypersensitivity (n=7); and the different treatments for MIH were very variable.  Twelve videos discussed differential diagnosis and 78.95% possible etiological factors; however, all of them presented clinical images. Data related to the video source and viewer interaction were not related to its quality (p>0.05). The number of likes (r=0.26), views (r=0.34) and video time (=0.58) show a weak and moderate correlation, respectively, with video score. Conclusion: Videos on YouTubeTMabout MIH presented moderate or high quality, with heterogeneous information, and can act as a complementary aid source of information

    Knowledge of Dentists about Hypomineralization Enamel Defects: A Cross-Sectional Study

    Objective: To evaluate a group of Brazilian dentists on their knowledge of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization (MIH) and Hypomineralized Second Primary Molars (HSPM) related to clinical aspects, consequences, and diagnostic criteria. Material and Methods: In this cross-sectional, the participants were invited by e-mail and Whatsapp® to answer a questionnaire about their knowledge of hypomineralization enamel defects (MIH/HSPM) on the Google Forms® platform. The questionnaire comprised eight questions about personal data and multiple-choice questions about their knowledge concerning clinical aspects, diagnostic criteria of MIH/HSPM and differential diagnosis through clinical images. Chi-square test was applied with the significance level set at 5%. Results: Most participants (n = 492; 91.1%) reported having knowledge about MIH/HSPM. The general dentists gave more incorrect answers (n = 40; 65.6 %;) about dental tissues affected by MIH/HSPM. Overall, 83.3% of the dentists gave the correct answer to which dentitions are associated with this condition. In addition, most dentists presented knowledge about the consequences related to possible fractures (n= 487; 90.2%) and about an increased risk of caries (n= 479; 88.9%) in the affected teeth.  Regarding the differential diagnosis performed through clinical images, most participants gave incorrect answers (p≤0.001). Conclusion: The participants presented knowledge about the dentition associated with this condition and possible consequences related to the teeth affected by MIH/HSPM; however, they showed difficulties concerning clinical diagnostic criteria

    Influence of Environmental Factors on the Presence and Severity of Molar Incisor Hypomineralization

    Objective: To assess the association between environmental factors during pregnancy and early childhood with the presence and severity of Molar Incisor Hipomineralization (MIH). Material and Methods: This cross-sectional study was conducted with 120 patients between 7 and 14 years of age. MIH was evaluated according to EAPD criteria. Data collected included the child’s medical history and the mother’s health. Chi-square and logistic regression were performed to determine any statistical evidence of the environmental factors, with the significance level set at 5%. Results: The participants were divided into groups with MIH (n=60) and without MIH (n=60), with average ages of 9.9 (±1.9) and 9.7 (±1.7) years, respectively. There was a statistically significant difference between intercurrences during pregnancy (OR=3.55; IC95%=1.35-10.57) and medication taken by the child (OR=3.01; IC95%=1.74-8.42) and the presence of MIH. In addition, other variables were also associated with the MIH (p≤0.05). However, there was no association with variables and degree of MIH severity (p>0.05). Conclusion: The use of medications in childhood and complications during pregnancy can be association to the presence of MIH. However, these factors do not interaction to MIH severity

    Empirical evaluation of disaster preparedness for hurricanes in the Rio Grande Valley

    Individual emergency preparedness is critical to mitigate and minimize the negative impacts from disasters. Preparing for future disasters could enhance capacity to better cope with the external shocks and achieve a faster return to normalcy after the disaster event. This study investigates how individuals living in the Rio Grande Valley prepare themselves for the future hurricane disasters. The study investigates the state of objective and subjective preparedness and any discrepancy between the two types of disaster preparedness. Using collected data from590 respondents via an online survey instrument, the study examines the relationships between the states of individual preparedness and selected twelve socio-demographic variables. Findings show that there is a small percent of the total respondents who are actual prepared for disasters. The study concludes with a list of recommendations in order to encourage individuals to better prepare themselves with an aim of enhancing hurricane disaster resiliency in the valley

    Increase in Electrical Parameters Using Sucrose in Tomato Waste

    "The use of organic waste as fuel for energy generation will reduce the great environmental problems currently caused by the consumption of fossil sources, giving agribusiness companies a profitable way to use their waste. In this research, tomato waste with different percentages of sucrose (0-target, 5, 10, and 20%) was used in microbial fuel cells manufactured on a laboratory scale with zinc and copper electrodes, managing to generate maximum peaks of voltage and a current of 1.08 V and 6.67 mA in the cell with 20% sucrose, in which it was observed that the optimum operating pH was 5.29, while the MFC with 0% (target) sucrose generated 0.91 V and 3.12 A on day 13 with a similar pH, even though all the cells worked in an acidic pH. Likewise, the cell with 20% sucrose had the lowest internal resistance (0.148541 ± 0.012361 KΩ) and the highest power density (224.77 mW/cm2 ) at a current density of 4.43 mA/cm2 , while the MFC with 0% sucrose generated 160.52 mW/cm2 and 4.38 mA/cm2 of power density and current density, respectively, with an internal resistance of 0.34116 ± 0.2914 KΩ. In this sense, the FTIR (Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy) of all the substrates used showed a high content of phenolic compounds and carboxylate acids. Finally, the MFCs were connected in a series and managed to generate a voltage of 3.43 V, enough to light an LED (green). These results give great hope to companies and society that, in the near future, this technology can be taken to a larger scale.

    Influence of protein-phenolic complex on the antioxidant capacity of flaxseed (Linum usitatissimum L.) products

    The impact of the naturally present phenolic compounds and/or proteins on the antioxidant capacity of flaxseed products (phenolic fraction, protein concentrates, and hydrolysates) before and after simulated gastrointestinal digestion was studied. For that, whole and phenolic reduced products were assessed. Four glycosylated phenolic compounds (secoisolariciresinol and ferulic, p-coumaric, and caffeic acids) were identified in flaxseed products. Phenolic fraction exerts the highest antioxidant capacity that increased by alkaline hydrolysis and by simulated gastrointestinal digestion. The action of Alcalase and digestive enzymes resulted in an increase of the antioxidant capacity of whole and phenolic reduced products. Principal component analysis showed that proteinaceous samples act as antioxidant is by H transfer, while those samples containing phenolic compounds exert their effects by both electron donation and H transfer mechanisms. Protein/peptide-phenolic complexation, confirmed by fluorescence spectra, exerted a positive effect on the antioxidant capacity, mainly in protein concentrates.This work was supported by FAPESP (2010/52680-7), CNPq and UNICAMP (FAEPEX 607-11) grants, CSIC and Ministry of Economy and Competitiveness (Ramon y Cajal contract).Peer Reviewe
