Microstructural transformations and Grain growth in alumina nanoprecursors

Alumina nanoprecursors with a range of average particle size and narrow distribution manifested two different grain and pore growth during mictrostructural developments. Densification temperature decreases in general with the decrease in average particle size though the distribution of particle size as a function of heating rate manifested different grain growth and subsequent densification. At low heating rate, 5oC the particles tend to show bimodal grain growth with bigger average grain, about 3 micron and densified at elevated temperatures, 1600oC. While at ten times elevated heating rate, 50sC, the particles tend to show normal grain growth with desirable average grain, 1bout 1 micron and densified at comparatively 200oC degrees lower temperature. English Loanwords in Ewe: A Phonological Analysis

This paper examines the processes that words borrowed from English go through on the phonological level in their adaptation into Ewe - a Kwa language spoken in Ghana and Togo. The paper analyses the adaptation of English loanwords into Ewe at the level of phonemic adaptation, syllable structure adaptation and the adaptation of stress. In terms of phonemic adaptation, it was found out that certain sounds in the English words borrowed into Ewe are foreign to the speakers of Ewe. In the adaptation process, the speakers replace the foreign sounds with native ones which are acoustically closer to the foreign ones. The analysis reveals that two main operations: deletion and insertion are used to compel foreign syllable structures to conform to the phonotactic constraints of Ewe.  For the adaptation of stress into Ewe, it was realized that stressed syllables in English are generally realized as high tones and unstressed syllables are realized as low tones. The conclusion of this study is that English phonemes are mapped onto Ewe phonetic forms but phonotactic constraints that exist in Ewe result in the processes of deletion and insertion of segments into some English words borrowed into Ewe. Assessment of erosion, deposition and fuel retention in the JET-ILW divertor from ion beam analysis data

Proceedings of the 22nd International Conference on Plasma Surface Interactions 2016, 22nd PSI.Post-mortem analyses of individual components provide relevant information on plasma-surface interactions like tungsten erosion, beryllium deposition and plasma fuel retention with divertor tiles via implantation or co-deposition. Ion Beam techniques are ideal tools for such purposes and have been extensively used for post-mortem analyses of selected tiles from JET following each campaign. In this contribution results from tiles removed from the JET ITER-Like Wall (JET-ILW) divertor following the 2013–2014 campaign are presented. The results summarize erosion, deposition and fuel retention along the poloidal cross section of the divertor surface and provide data for comparison with the first JET-ILW campaign, showing a similar pattern of material migration with the exception of Tile 6 where the strike point time on the tile was ∼ 4 times longer in 2013–2014 than in 2011–2012, which is likely to account for more material migration to this region. The W deposition on top of the Mo marker coating of Tile 4 shows that the enrichment takes place at the strike point location.Peer reviewe

Some Thoughts on the Scottish Arbitration Code 2007

November 2007 saw the launch of the new Scottish Arbitration Code by the Scottish Branch of the Institute. This replaces the 1999 version of the Code, which was promulgated not only by the Branch but also by the Scottish Council for International Arbitration and the Scottish Building Contract Committee. The new Code is also known as the Scottish Arbitration Rules 2007. This is helpful, as individuals like myself will no longer need to explain to our foreign students why the ‘Code’ has no actual legislative status, but only applies if adopted by the parties. The Code was originally designed to apply in the construction and engineering industries, and while it was ultimately decided that it could apply in all forms of arbitral proceedings, its origins may be detected in certain provisions. This short article does not seek to provide a comprehensive survey of the Code, but rather seeks to draw attention to noteworthy features and the questions which may be raised thereby
