This study empirically examines a practical aspect of a relationship that is only now being conceptualized––the relationship between rail transit, land development, and telecommunications. It pushes the envelope of knowledge in so far as the interaction between just two of the factors, public transportation and land use (urban form), has been a focus of policy research for only about 30 years, especially the last 10 years. This study is concerned with the feasibility of introducing three telecommunications-based incentives for transit-oriented development. The market for these hypothetical incentives is the developers of transit-oriented projects. California’s Bay Area/Santa Clara Valley and Los Angeles/Southern California regions are the study’s geographical focus. The question is the extent to which members of the development community believe that the incentives would affect the viability of their transit-oriented projects

Funding: European Union Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No 636930 (iCspec). The detection and measurement of hydrocarbons is of high interest for a variety of applications, for example within the oil & gas industry from extraction throughout the complete refining process, as well as for environmental monitoring and for portable safety devices. This paper presents a highly sensitive, selective and robust tunable laser analyzer that has the capability to analyze several components in a gas sample stream. More specifically, a multi-gas system for simultaneous detection of C1 to iC5 hydrocarbons, using a room temperature distributed feedback interband cascade laser array, emitting in the 3.3 micrometer band has been realized. It combines all the advantages of the tunable laser spectroscopy method for a fast, sensitive and selective in-line multicomponent tunable laser analyzer. Capable of continuous and milliseconds fast monitoring of C1-iC5 hydrocarbon compositions in a process stream, the analyzer requires no consumables (e.g. purging, carrier gas) and no in-field calibration, enabling a low cost of ownership for the analyzer. The system was built, based on an industrial GasEye series platform and deployed for the first time in field at Preem refinery in Lysekil, Sweden in autumn 2018. Results of the measurement campaign and comparison with gas chromatography instrumentation is presented.PostprintPeer reviewe

Embryonic and Postnatal Development of the Neural Circuitry Involved in Motor Control

The development of locomotion is believed to result from the maturation of the spinal circuits controlling motor output, however little is known about its mechanisms. To shed some light into this process we studied the development of the synaptic connectivity of two spinal inhibitory interneurons. Adult motoneurons are controlled by inhibitory networks that include recurrent and reciprocal inhibition (Pierrot-Deseilligny & Burke, 2005). Each is modulated by different ventral horn spinal interneurons that display synaptic connectivity adapted to their function: Renshaw cells (RCs) mediate recurrent inhibition, receive excitatory inputs from motor axons and inhibit homonymous and synergistic motoneurons; while Ia inhibitory interneurons (IaINs) mediate reciprocal inhibition, receive inputs from Ia proprioceptive afferents and inhibit antagonist motor pools. RCs and IaINs both derive from a homogenous class of embryonic ventral interneurons denominated V1 , leading us to question whether motor axons and Ia afferents target V1 interneurons during early development, followed by postnatal de-selection of specific inputs and generation of cells with typical RC/IaIN connectivity. Using immunohistochemistry, confocal microscopy, 3D neuronal reconstructions and transgenic animal models expressing V1-IN lineage markers, we analyzed synaptic input development on V1-derived RCs and IaINs. We found that motor axons specifically target RCs, are established in early embryo and maintained throughout development. In contrast, Ia afferents contact both IaINs and RCs in late embryo and throughout postnatal development. Ia afferent synapses are de-selected from RCs coinciding with maturation of weight-bearing locomotion. However, Ia afferent inputs on IaINs always occurred at a higher density and were more proximally located than on RCs, suggesting a stronger bias for IaINs. We concluded that there are fundamental differences between IaINs and RCs in their competence for receiving and maintaining motor and Ia afferent inputs. Finally, we investigated the possible role of transient Ia afferent inputs on RCs by studying RC connectivity in three genetic animal models that lack Ia afferents, or have weakened/strengthened Ia afferent inputs. We found interactions between Ia afferent strength and motor axon input density on RCs, but not with other excitatory inputs, suggesting that early Ia afferent inputs contribute to shape the organization of motor synapses on RCs

Fault tolerant control of a PMSM drive in the selected emergency conditions

The paper describes an investigation of fault tolerant control strategies for permanent magnet synchronous motor (PMSM) driven by a fault-tolerant inverter. The inverter is a topology-modified inverter with fault-tolerant capability, which can be configured as the standard 3-phase 6-switch inverter and reconfigured as 3-phase 4-switch or 2-phase 4-switch inverter under the fault condition. By analyzing operating principle of a fault-tolerant inverter and the mathematical model of PMSM, fault tolerant control algorithms are investigated. There is a conclusion that three phase stator windings of PMSM can be effectively operated by controlling only two phase currents. Simulation results show the validity of the proposed methods

The aim of the presented research on the development of a method for the determination of vancomycin was to verify two spectrophotometric methods for the determination of vancomycin based on the formation of complex compounds, selected from the science literature. The first method was the method based on the reaction of vancomycin with copper(II) ions, the selection of favorable conditions for the assay allowed to achieve lower LOD values than in the literature and LOQ of 17 and 50 mg/L. The method proved to be used in the determination of vancomycin in drugs. The second method was based on the reaction of vancomycin with the Folin-Ciocâlteu reagent. The conditions favorable from the point of view of the analysis were selected again, achieving the satisfactory parameters of LOD and LOQ, amounting to 0,9 and 2,6 mg/L. However, attempts to determine vancomycin in the drug by this method have not given satisfactory results

The Model of a Perfect Citizen in the Pastoral Letters of Michał Jerzy Poniatowski, the Bishop of Płock (1773-1784)

The article discusses the model of a perfect citizen described in the pastoral letters of Michał J. Poniatowski, the Bishop of Płock (1773-1784). The author bases his reconstruction of that model on the so-called recommendations for prayer for the souls of the departed. Those “recommendations” were devoted to eight prominent figures who lived at the turn of the 18th century and who were put forward as examples to follow for other people. Apart from the Archbishop A.K. Ostrowski, the people in question were either lay senators or high-level state officials. It is impossible to determine the level of involvement of the bishop himself in the form and content of the documents issued by his office in Warsaw. It is also impossible to deny that several of the aforementioned officials were either related to or friends with the Bishop Poniatowski and his brother - king Stanisław August. The discussed letters contain a list of attributes of a state official, who was to be a patriot and a faithful servant of the king at the same time. Among those attributes, the bishop differentiated private virtues, concerned with family life, as well as the more commonly mentioned public virtues, which were to help in managing the life of public service. For context, the author contrasts his findings with other models of citizenship permeating the preaching practice of that time and included in the program letter of the Bishop M.J. Poniatowski dating August 20, 1775. Moreover, the article includes certain biographical facts concerning the figures in question, which could be seen as unflattering and for that reason were excluded from the “recommendations” for prayer. The fact that the pastoral letters were printed by the Royal as well as the Commission of National Education printing houses further establishes the notion of active cooperation between the king and the Church officials in the effort of creating ideals of citizenship recognized and propagated by his closest advisor
