New massive supergravity multiplets
We present new off-shell formulations for the massive superspin-3/2
multiplet. In the massless limit, they reduce respectively to the old minimal
(n=-1/3) and non-minimal () linearized formulations for 4D N=1
supergravity. Duality transformations, which relate the models constructed, are
derived.Comment: 18 pages, LaTeX; v2: minor changes, references adde
Variant supercurrents and Noether procedure
Consistent supercurrent multiplets are naturally associated with linearized
off-shell supergravity models. In arXiv:1002.4932 we presented the hierarchy of
such supercurrents which correspond to all the models for linearized 4D N = 1
supergravity classified a few years ago. Here we analyze the correspondence
between the most general supercurrent given in arXiv:1002.4932 and the one
obtained eight years ago in hep-th/0110131 using the superfield Noether
procedure. We apply the Noether procedure to the general N = 1 supersymmetric
nonlinear sigma-model and show that it naturally leads to the so-called
S-multiplet, revitalized in arXiv:1002.2228.Comment: 6 page
Relaxed super self-duality and effective action
A closed-form expression is obtained for a holomorphic sector of the two-loop
Euler-Heisenberg type effective action for N = 2 supersymmetric QED derived in
hep-th/0308136. In the framework of the background-field method, this sector is
singled out by computing the effective action for a background N = 2 vector
multiplet satisfying a relaxed super self-duality condition. The approach
advocated in this letter can be applied, in particular, to the study of the N =
4 super Yang-Mills theory on its Coulomb branch.Comment: 8 pages, latex; V2: comments, references added, typos correcte
Fractional helicity, Lorentz symmetry breaking, compactification and anyons
We construct the covariant, spinor sets of relativistic wave equations for a
massless field on the basis of the two copies of the R-deformed Heisenberg
algebra. For the finite-dimensional representations of the algebra they give a
universal description of the states with integer and half-integer helicity. The
infinite-dimensional representations correspond formally to the massless states
with fractional (real) helicity. The solutions of the latter type, however,
break down the (3+1) Poincar\'e invariance to the (2+1) Poincar\'e
invariance, and via a compactification on a circle a consistent theory for
massive anyons in =2+1 is produced. A general analysis of the ``helicity
equation'' shows that the (3+1) Poincar\'e group has no massless irreducible
representations with the trivial non-compact part of the little group
constructed on the basis of the infinite-dimensional representations of
sl(2,\CC). This result is in contrast with the massive case where integer and
half-integer spin states can be described on the basis of such representations,
and means, in particular, that the (3+1) Dirac positive energy covariant
equations have no massless limit.Comment: 19 pages; minor changes, references added. To appear in Nucl. Phys.
Couplings of N=1 chiral spinor multiplets
We derive the action for chiral spinor multiplets coupled to vector and
scalar multiplets. We give the component form of the action, which contains
gauge invariant mass terms for the antisymmetric tensors in the spinor
superfield and additional Green-Schwarz couplings to vector fields. We observe
that supersymmetry provides mass terms for the scalars in the spinor multiplet
which do not arise from eliminating an auxiliary field. We construct the dual
action by explicitly performing the duality transformations in superspace and
give its component form.Comment: 17 pages, v2 small change
Combined kinase inhibitors of MEK1/2 and either PI3K or PDGFR are efficacious in intracranial triple-negative breast cancer
Background: Triple-negative breast cancer (TNBC), lacking expression of hormone and human epidermal growth factor receptor 2 receptors, is an aggressive subtype that frequently metastasizes to the brain and has no FDA-approved systemic therapies. Previous literature demonstrates mitogen-Activated protein kinase kinase (MEK) pathway activation in TNBC brain metastases. Thus, we aimed to discover rational combinatorial therapies with MEK inhibition, hypothesizing that co-inhibition using clinically available brain-penetrant inhibitors would improve survival in preclinical models of TNBC brain metastases. Methods: Using human-derived TNBC cell lines, synthetic lethal small interfering RNA kinase screens were evaluated with brain-penetrant inhibitors against MEK1/2 (selumetinib, AZD6244) or phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase (PI3K; buparlisib, BKM120). Mice bearing intracranial TNBC tumors (SUM149, MDA-MB-231Br, MDA-MB-468, or MDA-MB-436) were treated with MEK, PI3K, or platelet derived growth factor receptor (PDGFR; pazopanib) inhibitors alone or in combination. Tumors were analyzed by western blot and multiplexed kinase inhibitor beads/mass spectrometry to assess treatment effects. Results: Screens identified MEK+PI3K and MEK+PDGFR inhibitors as tractable, rational combinations. Dual treatment of selumetinib with buparlisib or pazopanib was synergistic in TNBC cells in vitro. Both combinations improved survival in intracranial SUM149 and MDA-MB-231Br, but not MDA-MB-468 or MDA-MB-436. Treatments decreased mitogen-Activated protein kinase (MAPK) and PI3K (Akt) signaling in sensitive (SUM149 and 231Br) but not resistant models (MDA-MB-468). Exploratory analysis of kinome reprogramming in SUM149 intracranial tumors after MEK PI3K inhibition demonstrates extensive kinome changes with treatment, especially in MAPK pathway members. Conclusions: Results demonstrate that rational combinations of the clinically available inhibitors selumetinib with buparlisib or pazopanib may prove to be promising therapeutic strategies for the treatment of some TNBC brain metastases. Additionally, effective combination treatments cause widespread alterations in kinase pathways, including targetable potential resistance drivers
Collinear helium under periodic driving: stabilization of the asymmetric stretch orbit
The collinear eZe configuration of helium, with the electrons on opposite
sides of the nucleus, is studied in the presence of an external electromagnetic
(laser or microwave) field. We show that the classically unstable "asymmetric
stretch" orbit, on which doubly excited intrashell states of helium with
maximum interelectronic angle are anchored, can be stabilized by means of a
resonant driving where the frequency of the electromagnetic field equals the
frequency of Kepler-like oscillations along the orbit. A static magnetic field,
oriented parallel to the oscillating electric field of the driving, can be used
to enforce the stability of the configuration with respect to deviations from
collinearity. Quantum Floquet calculations within a collinear model of the
driven two-electron atom reveal the existence of nondispersive wave packets
localized on the stabilized asymmetric stretch orbit, for double excitations
corresponding to principal quantum numbers of the order of N > 10.Comment: 13 pages, 12 figure
Large-scale magnetic fields from inflation due to a -even Chern-Simons-like term with Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields
We investigate the generation of large-scale magnetic fields due to the
breaking of the conformal invariance in the electromagnetic field through the
-even dimension-six Chern-Simons-like effective interaction with a fermion
current by taking account of the dynamical Kalb-Ramond and scalar fields in
inflationary cosmology. It is explicitly demonstrated that the magnetic fields
on 1Mpc scale with the field strength of G at the present time
can be induced.Comment: 18 pages, 6 figures, version accepted for publication in Eur. Phys.

Personalized peptide-based vaccination for treatment of colorectal cancer: rational and progress
Colorectal cancer (CRC) is one of the most common cancers globally and is associated with a high rate of morbidity and mortality. A large proportion of patients with early stage CRC who undergo conventional treatments develop local recurrence or distant metastasis and in this group of advanced disease, the survival rate is low. Furthermore there is often a poor response and/or toxicity associated with chemotherapy and chemo-resistance may limit continuing conventional treatment alone. Choosing novel and targeted therapeutic approaches based on clinicopathological and molecular features of tumors in combination with conventional therapeutic approach could be used to eradicate residual micrometastasis and therefore improve patient prognosis and also be used preventively. Peptide-based vaccination therapy is one class of cancer treatment that could be used to induce tumor-specific immune responses, through the recognition of specific antigen-derived peptides in tumor cells, and this has emerged as a promising anti-cancer therapeutic strategy. The aim of this review was to summarize the main findings of recent studies in exciting field of peptide-based vaccination therapy in CRC patients as a novel therapeutic approach in treatment of CRC
Horizontal Branch Stars: The Interplay between Observations and Theory, and Insights into the Formation of the Galaxy
We review HB stars in a broad astrophysical context, including both variable
and non-variable stars. A reassessment of the Oosterhoff dichotomy is
presented, which provides unprecedented detail regarding its origin and
systematics. We show that the Oosterhoff dichotomy and the distribution of
globular clusters (GCs) in the HB morphology-metallicity plane both exclude,
with high statistical significance, the possibility that the Galactic halo may
have formed from the accretion of dwarf galaxies resembling present-day Milky
Way satellites such as Fornax, Sagittarius, and the LMC. A rediscussion of the
second-parameter problem is presented. A technique is proposed to estimate the
HB types of extragalactic GCs on the basis of integrated far-UV photometry. The
relationship between the absolute V magnitude of the HB at the RR Lyrae level
and metallicity, as obtained on the basis of trigonometric parallax
measurements for the star RR Lyrae, is also revisited, giving a distance
modulus to the LMC of (m-M)_0 = 18.44+/-0.11. RR Lyrae period change rates are
studied. Finally, the conductive opacities used in evolutionary calculations of
low-mass stars are investigated. [ABRIDGED]Comment: 56 pages, 22 figures. Invited review, to appear in Astrophysics and
