    An Examination of Trauma-Related Psychotherapy Outcomes at an Outpatient Military Behavioral Health Clinic

    Objective: The purpose of the present study is to expand existing literature on specific patient demographics and treatment protocols for trauma-related psychotherapies that moderate treatment outcomes in real-world clinical settings with military personnel. Method: The present study used medical records to analyze treatment outcomes of patients seen at an army medical hospital in the Southeastern United States. The data was gathered over a 6-month timeframe, and participants were predominantly active duty Army personnel being treated for PTSD or other trauma-related disorders. Demographic variables were examined as predictors or moderators and hypotheses were put forward regarding the relationship of the characteristics with treatment outcomes. Measures included the PTSD Checklist for DSM-5 (PCL-5) and the Behavior and Symptom Identification Scale-24 (BASIS-24). Providers used both evidence-based as well as non-evidence-based treatments (i.e., EBT, non-EBT), and moderation analyses were performed to examine the association between these treatments and therapy outcomes. Results: PCL-5 results showed the relationship between pre- and post-treatment scores were not moderated by patient demographics or treatments provided. BASIS-24 results showed that of the demographics and treatment protocols analyzed, only gender moderated the relationship between pre- to post-treatment scores. Age was a significant predictor of the number of sessions patients attended. Reliable change calculations showed 85% of patient PCL-5 scores and 93% of patient BASIS-24 scores reflected unsuccessful treatment outcomes. Conclusion: In general, patients were not provided with EBTs and they did not benefit from the treatment they did receive. Future studies focused on the issue of ineffective treatments would be useful to providers, clinic and hospitals administrators, and most importantly- our patients

This paper discusses the architecture that the Abacus utilizes to overcome the issues inherent in other proprietary and open-source authorization solutions. Specifically, the Abacus respects domain boundaries, is less complex than existing systems, and does not require direct connections to domain data stores

    Mineralogy of an ancient lacustrine mudstone succession from the Murray formation, Gale crater, Mars

    The Mars Science Laboratory Curiosity rover has been traversing strata at the base of Aeolis Mons (informally known as Mount Sharp) since September 2014. The Murray formation makes up the lowest exposed strata of the Mount Sharp group and is composed primarily of finely laminated lacustrine mudstone intercalated with rare crossbedded sandstone that is prodeltaic or fluvial in origin. We report on the first three drilled samples from the Murray formation, measured in the Pahrump Hills section. Rietveld refinements and FULLPAT full pattern fitting analyses of X-ray diffraction patterns measured by the MSL CheMin instrument provide mineral abundances, refined unit-cell parameters for major phases giving crystal chemistry, and abundances of X-ray amorphous materials. Our results from the samples measured at the Pahrump Hills and previously published results on the Buckskin sample measured from the Marias Pass section stratigraphically above Pahrump Hills show stratigraphic variations in the mineralogy; phyllosilicates, hematite, jarosite, and pyroxene are most abundant at the base of the Pahrump Hills, and crystalline and amorphous silica and magnetite become prevalent higher in the succession. Some trace element abundances measured by APXS also show stratigraphic trends; Zn and Ni are highly enriched with respect to average Mars crust at the base of the Pahrump Hills (by 7.7 and 3.7 times, respectively), and gradually decrease in abundance in stratigraphically higher regions near Marias Pass, where they are depleted with respect to average Mars crust (by more than an order of magnitude in some targets). The Mn stratigraphic trend is analogous to Zn and Ni, however, Mn abundances are close to those of average Mars crust at the base of Pahrump Hills, rather than being enriched, and Mn becomes increasingly depleted moving upsection. Minerals at the base of the Pahrump Hills, in particular jarosite and hematite, as well as enrichments in Zn, Ni, and Mn, are products of acid-sulfate alteration on Earth. We hypothesize that multiple influxes of mildly to moderately acidic pore fluids resulted in diagenesis of the Murray formation and the observed mineralogical and geochemical variations. The preservation of some minerals that are highly susceptible to dissolution at low pH (e.g., mafic minerals and fluorapatite) suggests that acidic events were not long-lived and that fluids may not have been extremely acidic (pH>2pH>2). Alternatively, the observed mineralogical variations within the succession may be explained by deposition in lake waters with variable Eh and/or pH, where the lowermost sediments were deposited in an oxidizing, perhaps acidic lake setting, and sediments deposited in the upper Pahrump Hills and Marias Pass were deposited lake waters with lower Eh and higher pH

Because this first volume of its kind covers literature from so many different civilizations, the editors of BYU Studies saw no way to do this book justice without involving a panel of reviewers from several disciplines. After portions of Robert Fuller’s forthcoming review in Church History were read, the program proceeded with reviews, responses, and open discussion

    Constraints on Martian Ancient Magmatic Processes Using Mineral Chemistry of Sedimentary Rocks in Gale Crater, Mars

    If Mars has been assumed to be mostly basaltic for a long time, a series of recent discoveries have challenged this simplistic view. Orbital data indicated feldspar-rich rocks in Noachian terrains, likely supporting ancient evolved magmatism. The first indurated regolithic martian meteorite breccia NWA 7034, dated at 4.43 Gyr, contain several leucocratic felsic clasts identified as monzonitic and trachyandesitic, containing feldspars including K-spars and Na-rich plagioclases, pyroxenes, ilmenites and apatites. These clasts have been interpreted as the result of crystallization of a large impact pond. The Mars Science Laboratory rover (Curiosity), travelling within sedimentary bedrock on the floor of the Gale impact crater, discovered feldspar cumulates and a trachyandesite suggesting fractional crystallization of a basaltic melt. In addition, in the Bradbury group of fluvio-deltaic rocks (observed during the 1st 750 sols), sedimentary rocks are mostly comprised of secondary phases and detrital igneous minerals like feldspar, and pyroxene that are thought to come from Noachian-aged magmatic sources, although no definite origin and igneous processes have been inferred

    Clay Sediments from Basaltic Terrains: Implications for Sedimentary Processes on Mars

    The Mars Science Laboratory (MSL) rover, Curiosity, has been traversing across fluvial, lacustrine, and eolian sedimentary rocks since it touched down in 2012. The CheMin X-ray diffractometer (XRD) on board Curiosity has revealed smectite clay minerals in most fluvio-lacustrine samples and abundant X-ray amorphous materials in all samples analyzed to date. For example, mudstones from the Sheepbed member at the base of the stratigraphic section and the lower part of the Murray formation contain on average ~7 to 20 wt% smectite and ~30 to 46 wt% X-ray amorphous abundances. On Earth, smectite and secondary X-ray amorphous materials are juvenile weathering products that are generated in sedimentary environments and ultimately record the interaction between primary igneous minerals and the hydrosphere, atmosphere, and biosphere. For this study, we investigated glacio-fluvio-eolian sediments generated in basaltic terrains as terrestrial analogs for the mudstones from Gale Crater, Mars. This work focuses on the clay sized sediments (<2 m) from these deposits as this grain size hosts the most mineralogically and geochemically altered detritus in sedimentary environments. The goal of investigating basaltic sedimentation is to create a terrestrial reference frame that sheds light on the paleoclimate and paleoaqueous conditions responsible for shaping the ancient sedimentary environments of Mars (e.g., Gale Crater and Jezero Crater)
