Dual character of conceptual connections in African American culture is discussed. On the basis of description of different constituent parts of celestial concept sphere (moon, sun, sky, star) contextual analysis of the works of different authors is undertaken. Interaction of African and European interpretations of celestial concept sphere is stated.

Simplification/complication of the basis of prime Boolean ideal

    Get PDF
Prime Boolean ideal has the basis of the form (x1 + e1, ..., xn + en) that consists of linear binomials. Its variety consists of the point (e1, ..., en). Complication of the basis is changing the simple linear binomials by non-linear polynomials in such a way, that the variety of ideal stays fixed. Simplification of the basis is obtaining the basis that consists of linear binomials from the complicated one that keeps its variety. Since any ideal is a module over the ring of Boolean polynomials, the change of the basis is uniquely determined by invertible matrix over the ring. Algorithms for invertible simplifying and complicating the basis of Boolean ideal that fixes the size of basis are proposed. Algorithm of simplification optimizes the choose of pairs of polynomials during the Groebner basis computation, and eliminates variables without using resultants

Teaching english by means of comic multimodal texts

The relevance of the problem that is discussed is connected with the changing character of media and social environment. The aim of the article is to share our experience how various types of multimodal or the so called creolized texts may become a very helpful means for the study of theoretical subjects. We are mainly concerned with the blocks that traditionally form a part when teaching a modern foreign language as a would-be professional field. As a rule, these theoretical subjects are rich in linguocultural phenomena that should be shown and explained to the students. We describe how purely linguistic facts can be demonstrated and taught with the help of graphic means. Methods of investigation are formed on the basis of conceptual metaphor theory, multimodal metaphor approach. These methods of study have been further changed in the process of our own research so that the linguistic data could be analyzed in a more detailed way. In particular, much attention is given to the study of transferred meanings, pun, decomposition of set-expressions and analysis of images that are deeply rooted in culture. Stereotypes that exist in every culture, human types that become popularized; folklore and fiction characters that are projected on real people and real-life situations; linguistic means; the system of images; discourse background; translation drawbacks and their reasons – all these became part of our investigation. Multimodal texts imply the use of both verbal and visual components. Thus, different advertising techniques, cartoons (including political subjects), comic strips, posters, collage art, feature films may present the unlimited source of material. Such activities are generally offered to senior students because such work requires a high level of second language acquisition but some activities and steps can be used with less proficient learners. Basic results may be of interest to the staff and scholars dealing with linguocultural data. © 2017, Slovenska Vzdelavacia Obstaravacia. All rights reserved

nanoparticles production and inclusion in s aureus incubated with polyurethane an electron microscopy analysis

This study shows that submicron/nanoparticles found in bacterial cells (S. aureus) incubated with polyurethane (a material commonly used for prostheses in odontostomatology) are a consequence of biodestruction. The presence of polyurethane nanoparticles into bacterial vesicles suggests that the internalization process occurs through endocytosis. TEM and FIB/SEM are a suitable set of correlated instruments and techniques for this multi facet investigation: polyurethane particles influence the properties of S. aureus from the morpho-functional standpoint that may have undesirable effects on the human body. S. aureus and C. albicans are symbiotic microorganisms; it was observed that C. albicans has a similar interaction with polyurethane and an increment of the biodestruction capacity is expected by its mutual work with S. aureus

Primal-Dual Interior Methods for Quadratic Programming

Interior methods are a class of computational methods for solving a con- strained optimization problem. Interior methods follow a continuous path to the solution that passes through the interior of the feasible region (i.e., the set of points that satisfy the constraints). Interior- point methods may also be viewed as methods that replace the constrained problem by a sequence of unconstrained problems in which the objective function is augmented by a weighted \barrier" term that is infinite at the boundary of the feasible region. Convergence to a solution of the constrained problem is achieved by solving a sequence of unconstrained problems in which the weight on the barrier term is steadily reduced to zero. This thesis concerns the formulation and analysis of interior methods for the solution of a quadratic programming (QP) problem, which is an optimization problem with a quadratic objective function and linear constraints. The linear constraints may include an arbitrary mixture of equality and inequality constraints, where the inequality constraints may be subject to lower and/or upper bounds. QP problems arise in a wide variety of applications. An important application is in sequential quadratic programming methods for nonlinear optimization, which involve minimizing a sequence of QP subproblems based on a quadratic approximation of the nonlinear objective function and a set of linearized nonlinear constraints. Two new interior methods for QP are proposed. Each is based on the properties of a barrier function defined in terms of both the primal and dual variables. The first method is suitable for a QP with all inequality constraints. At each iteration, the Newton equations for minimizing a quadratic model of the primal-dual barrier function are reformulated in terms of a symmetric indefinite system of equations that is solved using an inertia controlling factorization. This factorization provides an effective method for the detection and convexification of nonconvex problems. The second method is intended for problems with a mixture of equality and inequality constraints. In this case, the QP constraints are converted to so-called standard form and a primal-dual augmented Lagrangian is used to ensure the feasibility of the equality constraints in the limi

Semantics of Bankruptcy as a Way of Product Promotion in Modern American Advertising Discourse

    No full text
The article discusses several problems. First, it deals with the terminology which is used with reference to complex semiotic systems. Second, it provides several reasons why multimodal texts are so important for modern commu-nication, and specifically for different kinds of advertisement. Third, it analyzes the character of relations between visual and verbal components in modern American advertising campaigns. With the help of linguistic methods, including the methods of analysis of dictionary and contextual semantics, the author demonstrates the possible ways of material interpretation. The methodology has been formed on the basis of the theory of conceptual metaphor and the methods of semiotic analysis of mul-timodal text.В этой статье рассматривается креолизованный текст, как антикризисная видеореклама
