Garlic or Allium sativum is widely applied as alternative medicine and in ethnopharmacological studies. This study was done to evaluate the antimalarial properties of aqueous extract of garlic against Plasmodium berghei NK65. The groups of male ICR mice were intraperitoneally (i.p) infected with 0.1 mL of 1 × 107 parasitised red blood cells (RBC) before being orally given pre- and post-infection treatments with 0.2 mL of 100 mg/kg body weight (bw) of freeze-dried aqueous garlic extract. Parasitemia was microscopically examined and measured by Giemsa stained thin blood smear. There was a positive correlation (p<0.05, n = 6) for all assessed parameters; parasitemia density (%), survival time (day) and the ability to inhibit the parasite growth (%) between pre-treated infected mice with the other groups. However, the value recorded was still lower compared to the mice treated with commercial antimalarial drug primaquine and chloroquine. However, biochemical parameters of treated animals were in the normal range indicative of no toxicity. Histological examination showed no abnormalities and injuries on the selected vital organs. This study proved garlic has potential as alternative antimalarial dru

Mitigation of Voltage Sag in Distribution Line using 6 Pulse D-STATCOM

    Get PDF
During the ongoing growth of technologies, it’s increasing the power of load demand. These requires system stability and reliability during distribution power to the load. In this paper, study on operation and control of the distribution STATCOM (D-STATCOM) is done. It helps in the better utilization of a network operation under normal and voltage sags condition. This research is proposed by using PSCAD/EMTDC software. Design of 6-pulse D-STATCOM is analyzed and simulated, thus shows its effectiveness in mitigating voltage sags

Statistical Technique in Gas Dispersion Modeling Based on Linear Interpolation

    Get PDF
In this paper, we introduced statistical techniques in creating a gas dispersion model in an indoor with a controlled environment. The temperature, air-wind and humidity were constant throughout the experiment. The collected data were then treated as an image; which the pixel size is similar to the total data available for x and y axis. To predict the neighborhood value, linear interpolation technique was implemented. The result of the experiment is significantly applicable in extending the total amount of data if small data is available

Synthesize of gold nanoparticles with 532 NM and 1064 NM pulse laser ablation

    Get PDF
The effect of laser wavelength on gold nanoparticle fabrication is reported. Colloidal solutions of gold nanoparticles were prepared by pulsed laser ablation technique in deionized water. A Q-switched Nd:YAG laser with constant energy of 65mJ and operation at fundamental wavelength and second harmonic generation was utilized as a source of energy. Fabricated particles were characterized by using Smart Nanoparticles Measurements (SNM) system. The average diameters of gold nanoparticles achieved as19 nm and 12 nm corresponding to 1064 nm and 532 nm respectively. The fragmentation of colloidal particles by self-absorption of laser pulses is the responsible mechanism to cause for reduction

Development of Electronic Commerce Adoption Model based on Structural Equation Modeling Techniques

    Get PDF
Advance Communication Technologies are playing a vital role in business today. In the world currently, many developing nations identified Small and Medium Scale organizations significantly important in counties2019; economic development. But the contribution from the SME sector is considerably low. Therefore, addressing this issue is important in business development. Among many reasons identified as barriers for SMEs to perform, studies have identified that low usage or not using technologies like E-commerce effected to this low performance. Therefore, studies are conducted to identify barriers to use technology in SMEs and many frameworks are tested and verified in different domains. In this study mainly tested and varied a framework which is considering Information Technological factors effecting the adoption of E-commerce technology and how it is effected for SME development. In this study framework is developed using literature analysis and hypothesis are developed based on past studies in terms of Information Technology factors as a main consideration. Model testing part is done using Structural Equation Molding using IBM AMOS. At the end of the study proposed framework is modified with statistical results and finally presented a framework which can be considered as a framework to understand the Information Technology factors effecting the E-commerce adoption and SME development

Sustainable Practices and Business Performance: Evidence from Sri Lankan Manufacturing Firms

    Get PDF
The purpose of this paper is to investigate the influence of sustainable practices (SP) on business performance (BP) of ISO 14001 EMS certified manufacturing firms of Sri Lanka and also to examine the moderator effect from firm size on the link between sustainable practices and business performance. The study used the questionnaire survey technique to collect data from a sample selected using simple random sampling from known population and SPSS software is used for survey data analysis. The major finding indicates that sustainable practices have a positive influence on business performance and it can be measured using environmental practices, corporate governance, and human resource management practices. Moreover, the results indicate firm size has no moderating effect on the link between sustainability practices and business performance. The findings of this paper is a novelty for Sri Lankan manufacturing industry and for policymakers as it provides new insights to the manufacturing industry on sustainable practices(SP) and the business performance (BP). Moreover, the results of the study is useful for manufacturing firms in Sri Lanka looking forward to install ISO 14001 based environmental management system within the firms as results provide areas need to be focused. This research is confined to ISO 14001 EMS certified manufacturing firms of Sri Lanka and therefore the findings obtained may not be generalized to other countries. Customer Perception of Trust towards Virtual Banking Adoption in Malaysia

    Get PDF
Trust is one of the factors in many studies was tested and does significantly affects the adoption of virtual banking. However, studies with regards to customer perceive trust in relation to virtual banking adoption in Malaysia is limited. Due to low customers’ adoption in internet and mobile banking in Malaysia, this Study was conducted to evaluate customers’ perception on trust in adopting virtual banking. 402 samples from local and foreign banks customers in Malaysia was selected. Sample selection was based on convenience sampling technique and quantitative method has been applied to evaluate the study objectives. Through the descriptive analysis and research findings, it has been evaluated that only integrity affects customer perceived trust in virtual banking in Malaysian context. The research represents future implications for local banks in Malaysia to attract virtual banking customers by strengthening its’ measure with regards to security and reliability and benevolence. However, the results obtained in this study are limited to questionnaires distributed within the Klang Valley. Future researchers may expand its boundary by taking a diverse sample and including qualitative approach. Keywords: Customer Perception; trust; virtual banking adoptio

Extending Classical Technology Acceptance Models, A Review of Potential Mobile Device and Consumer Individual Factors to Better Explain Mobile Commerce Acceptance

    Get PDF
Purpose - Technology adoption theories are very general, however the factors influencing acceptance could vary on the specific technology and the segments of consumers with their individual traits. This study accomplishes a comprehensive review of literature and to find potential variables to extend classical technology acceptance models specifically in the contexts of mobile technology and mobile commerce with consumer individual traits in mind. Methodology - 1. Methodical Review of key journal articles on Technology Acceptance across multiple key publishers, 2. Review of popular extant models in the context of general technology, 3. Elicit Mobile and Consumer specific considerations 4. Identify theories relevant to mobile devices and consumers as individuals Result - The result showed that the three were multiple mobile device/ commerce and consumer related theories including convenience, perceived risk, trust and deal proneness Study Implications - The theories and the constructs identified in this review could be used by future researchers working to further the acceptance science in the context of mobile devices taking consumer individual factors into consideratio
