Method for Identifying Type of Eddy-Current Displacement Sensor

    Get PDF
Eddy-current (EC) displacement sensors are used in a device for measuring the shaft vibration of turbines. An EC displacement sensor is composed of a sensor probe and an impedance/output voltage (Z/V) converter. In a power plant in the U. S., the type of the sensor probe and the displacement from the turbine shaft to the tip of the sensor probe (displacement x) are not controlled. For this reason, when only the Z/V converter breaks down, the plant is stopped and dismantled, and both the Z/V converter and the sensor probe are replaced. This results in two problems, i.e., the unstable supply of electric power when the power plant is stopped and the high cost of dismantling the plant. If both the type of the sensor probe and x are identified during turbine operation, the aforementioned problems could be solved. In this paper, we describe that the three types of the sensor probe and x can be identified by comparing the measured the maximum quality factor Q(EC) (max) and frequency f(o) at Q(EC) (max) with the Q(EC) (max) versus f(o) characteristics of sensor probes.ArticleIEEE TRANSACTIONS ON MAGNETICS. 47(10):3554-3557 (2011)journal articl

Diverse Effects of FK506 on the Apoptosis of Hepatocytes and Infiltrating Lymphocytes in an Allografted Rat Liver.

BACKGROUND: The current study investigated whether FK506 (FK) regulates the apoptotic systems in allografted rat liver and the contribution of Fas/Fas-ligand system and Bcl-2 family during acute rejection. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The recipients were divided into three groups, the allo, the allo-FK, and the syn group. Rats were euthanized 1, 3, 5, and 7 d after OLT. Apoptotic activity was explored using terminal deoxynucleotidyl transferase-mediated dUTP nick-end labeling (TUNEL) assay. The expression of Fas/Fas-ligand and Bcl-2/Bax in the grafted livers was investigated by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry. RESULTS: The apoptotic index (AI) of hepatocytes in the allo-FK group was less than that in the allo group. Fas in the allo group was more intense than that in the allo-FK group in the periportal areas on day 1 and 3, while Bcl-2 in the allo group was less intense than that in the allo-FK group in the pericaval areas at all time-points after OLT. CONCLUSION: FK provides beneficial antiapoptotic effects on hepatocytes in the grafted rat livers through both the down-regulation of Fas expression in the periportal areas and the up-regulation of Bcl-2 expression in the pericaval areas

Okinawa Prefecture has a beautiful southern starry sky. We visited two isolated islands in Okinawa Prefecture and held a stargazing workshop in order to give a chance to people in the region to realize the charm of a starry sky and learn about astronomy. We guided them, not only through the starry sky, but also giving insights of the local culture in connection with stars and constellations

Stereotactic body radiotherapy using gated radiotherapy with real-time tumor-tracking for stage I non-small cell lung cancer

Background: To clarify the clinical outcomes of two dose schedule of stereotactic body radiotherapy (SBRT) for stage I non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) using a real-time tumor-tracking radiation therapy (RTRT) system in single institution. Methods: Using a superposition algorithm, we administered 48 Gy in 4 fractions at the isocenter in 2005-2006 and 40 Gy in 4 fractions to the 95% volume of PTV in 2007-2010 with a treatment period of 4 to 7 days. Target volume margins were fixed irrespective of the tumor amplitude. Results: In total, 109 patients (79 T1N0M0 and 30 T2N0M0). With a median follow-up period of 25 months (range, 4 to 72 months), the 5-year local control rate (LC) was 78% and the 5-year overall survival rate (OS) was 64%. Grade 2, 3, 4, and 5 radiation pneumonitis (RP) was experienced by 15 (13.8%), 3 (2.8%), 0, and 0 patients, respectively. The mean lung dose (MLD) and the volume of lung receiving 20 Gy (V20) were significantly higher in patients with RP Grade 2/3 than in those with RP Grade 0/1 (MLD p = 0.002, V20 p = 0.003). There was no correlation between larger maximum amplitude of marker movement and larger PTV (r = 0.137), MLD (r = 0.046), or V20 (r = 0.158). Conclusions: SBRT using the RTRT system achieved LC and OS comparable to other SBRT studies with very low incidence of RP, which was consistent with the small MLD and V20 irrespective of tumor amplitude. For stage I NSCLC, SBRT using RTRT was suggested to be reliable and effective, especially for patients with large amplitude of tumor movement
