Indonesia is an islamic country that still has problems in economics such asunemployment and poverty. Stability and economic growth are expected toovercome these problems. Two-way relationship between unemployment and economic growth can be summarized in a system of simultaneous equation. Two directions relationship of mutual influence can be summarizedin a system of simultaneous equations. Economic variables are dynamic; the value is influenced by value of variable itself in the past and also the value of other variables. In a dynamic panel data model there is a lag of the dependent variable that causes the OLS estimates can be biased and inconsistent. Arellano-Bond GMM with optimal weight produces parameter estimate which is unbiased, consistent, and efficient. From this study we can conclude that there is a simultaneous relationship between economic growth and unemployment. If economic growth increases 1%, it will cause the unemployment decrease to 0.956% in short-term and 0.988% in shortterm. On the other hand, if unemployment increases 1%, it will cause a slowdown in economics to 0.465% and 0.615% for the long ter

An experiment was conducted to determine the efficiency of garlic and ginger spice mixtures at 0%, 1%, 2%, and3% levels (per gram of fish) in retarding lipid oxidation on the proximate composition, Total Volatile Bases Nitrogen, Microbial level and organoleptic quality of solar dried catfish (Clarias gariepinus) in Sokoto, Nigeria. Fresh fish samples were purchased and washed thoroughly to remove sand and slime; they were humanely killed and eviscerated. Muscles of bigger fish were silt and dipped in 15% brine for 10 minutes. They were then divided into four batches S0 S1, S2, and S3 (replicated three times) representing un-spiced, 1% spiced, 2% spiced, and 3% spiced respectively then Solar dried at 45 °C for 6 days, cooled, stored at room temperature (26°C -32°C) for 5 weeks and used for proximate analysis, Total Volatile Bases Nitrogen, microbial and sensory evaluation analysis. Untreated samples served as control treatment. The results of this research indicated that samples treated with garlic and ginger mixtures (1:1 ratio) were microbiologically more stable than the control samples as these had longer shelf-life and were not covered by visible mouldy mass of mycelium during the five week storage period. The anti-oxidant activity of garlic, or garlic and ginger spice mixtures was evident from lower Total Volatile Bases Nitrogen (TVBN) values of treated samples relative to untreated (control) samples. Results of sensory evaluation showed a general preference for spice-treated samples. In conclusion, ginger and garlic, two abundant spices in this geographical zone, when combined, as paste, in solar dried Clarias gariepinus exhibit anti-oxidant and anti-fungal properties especially at 3% (per weight of fish). It is therefore recommended that in preservation of fish, 3 percent ginger and garlic mixture in addition to salting should be used to prevent fish spoilage

Universal Fermi Gas with Two- and Three-Body Resonances

We consider a Fermi gas with two components of different masses, with the s-wave two-body interaction tuned to unitarity. In the range of mass ratio 8.62<M/m<13.6, it is possible for a single contact interaction between heavy fermions to produce a resonance in a three-body channel. The resulting system is scale invariant and has universal properties, and is very strongly interacting. When M/m is slightly above the lower limit 8.62, the ground state energy of a 2:1 mixture of heavy and light fermions is less than 2% of the energy of a noninteracting gas with the same number densities. We derive exact relationships between the pressures of the unitary Fermi gases with and without three-body resonance when the mass ratio is close to the critical values of 8.62 and 13.6. Possible experimental realization with cold atoms in optical lattices is discussed.Comment: 4 pages, 1 figure. A role for exercise in attenuating unhealthy food consumption in response to stress

Get PDF
It is well established that both acute and chronic stress can be detrimental to health and wellbeing by directly increasing the risk of several chronic diseases and related health problems. In addition, stress may contribute to ill-health indirectly via its downstream effects on individuals' health-related behaviour, such as promoting the intake of unhealthy palatable foods high in fat and sugar content. This paper reviews (a) the research literature on stress-models; (b) recent research investigating stress-induced eating and (c) the potential physiological and psychological pathways contributing to stress-induced eating. Particular attention is given to (d) the role of physical exercise in attenuating acute stress, with exploration of potential mechanisms through which exercise may reduce unhealthy food and drink consumption subsequent to stressor exposure. Finally, exercise motivation is discussed as an important psychological influence over the capacity for physical exercise to attenuate unhealthy food and drink consumption after exposure to stressors. This paper aims to provide a better understanding of how physical exercise might alleviate stress-induced unhealthy food choices

Preparation of TiO2-activated kaolinite composite for photocatalytic degradation of rhodamine B dye

ABSTRACT. Rhodamine B (RhB) is one of the prominent dyes discovered to be carcinogenic and mutagenic substance present in the ecosystem. Alteration of the characteristics of TiO2 through modification with clay influences the behavior of some organic molecules at its surface, and thus its photocatalytic properties. This study investigates the photocatalytic degradation of RhB using TiO2-activated kaolinite composite (TiO2-AKC). TiO2-AKC was prepared in absolute ethanol and characterized using SEM, EDX, TEM, BET and FTIR. The photodegradation of RhB using TiO2-AKC at room temperature under visible-light was studied at various time intervals and the concentration of RhB was monitored using Ultraviolet-Visible spectrophotometer. Characterisation of TiO2-AKC revealed an adequate distribution of TiO2 over the AKC surface, with an enhanced surface area (TiO2-AKC 808 m2g-1, TiO2 50.0 m2g-1, AKC 20.6 m2g-1) necessary for effective degradation. The degradation was efficient in TiO2-AKC than in sole TiO2 resulting in 99.51% and 88.35%, respectively. The experimental data was analysed using zeroth and first order kinetics, parabolic diffusion, and modified Freundlich model. The degradation kinetics conforms to first order kinetics in TiO2-AKC and sole TiO2. The mechanism of the degradation using TiO2-AKC fit into modified Freundlich model and parabolic diffusion model while sole TiO2 was best described by parabolic diffusion model. KEY WORDS: Kaolin, Kinetics, Organic dyes, Photodegradation, Pollutants, Titanium(IV) oxide Bull. Nernst Effect and Anomalous Transport in Cuprates: A Preformed-Pair Alternative to the Vortex Scenario

We address those puzzling experiments in underdoped high TcT_c superconductors which have been associated with normal state "vortices" and show these data can be understood as deriving from preformed pairs with onset temperature T>TcT^* > T_c. For uncorrelated bosons in small magnetic fields, and arbitrary T/TcT^*/T_c, we present the exact contribution to \textit{all} transport coefficients. In the overdoped regime our results reduce to those of standard fluctuation theories (TTcT^*\approx T_c). Semi-quantitative agreement with Nernst, ac conductivity and diamagnetic measurements is quite reasonable.Comment: 9 pages, 4 figures; Title, abstract and contents modified, new references added, figures changed, one more figure added; to be published on PR

A Cytohesin Homolog in Dictyostelium Amoebae

Get PDF
Dictyostelium, an amoeboid motile cell, harbors several paralogous Sec7 genes that encode members of three distinct subfamilies of the Sec7 superfamily of Guanine nucleotide exchange factors. Among them are proteins of the GBF/BIG family present in all eukaryotes. The third subfamily represented with three members in D. discoideum is the cytohesin family that has been thought to be metazoan specific. Cytohesins are characterized by a Sec7 PH tandem domain and have roles in cell adhesion and migration. Dictyostelium SecG exhibits highest homologies to the cytohesins. It harbors at its amino terminus several ankyrin repeats that are followed by the Sec7 PH tandem domain. Mutants lacking SecG show reduced cell-substratum adhesion whereas cell-cell adhesion that is important for development is not affected. Accordingly, multicellular development proceeds normally in the mutant. During chemotaxis secG(-) cells elongate and migrate in a directed fashion towards cAMP, however speed is moderately reduced. The data indicate that SecG is a relevant factor for cell-substrate adhesion and reveal the basic function of a cytohesin in a lower eukaryote

Enhancing a de novo enzyme activity by computationally-focused ultra-low-throughput screening

Get PDF
Directed evolution has revolutionized protein engineering. Still, enzyme optimization by random library screening remains sluggish, in large part due to futile probing of mutations that are catalytically neutral and/or impair stability and folding. FuncLib is a novel approach which uses phylogenetic analysis and Rosetta design to rank enzyme variants with multiple mutations, on the basis of predicted stability. Here, we use it to target the active site region of a minimalist-designed, de novo Kemp eliminase. The similarity between the Michaelis complex and transition state for the enzymatic reaction makes this system particularly challenging to optimize. Yet, experimental screening of a small number of active-site variants at the top of the predicted stability ranking leads to catalytic efficiencies and turnover numbers ( 2 104 M 1 s 1 and 102 s 1) for this anthropogenic reaction that compare favorably to those of modern natural enzymes. This result illustrates the promise of FuncLib as a powerful tool with which to speed up directed evolution, even on scaffolds that were not originally evolved for those functions, by guiding screening to regions of the sequence space that encode stable and catalytically diverse enzymes. Empirical valence bond calculations reproduce the experimental activation energies for the optimized eliminases to within 2 kcal mol 1 and indicate that the enhanced activity is linked to better geometric preorganization of the active site. This raises the possibility of further enhancing the stabilityguidance of FuncLib by computational predictions of catalytic activity, as a generalized approach for computational enzyme designKnut and Alice Wallenberg Foundation (Wallenberg Academy Fellowship) 2018.0140Human Frontier Science Program RGP0041/2017FEDER Funds/Spanish Ministry of Science, Innovation and Universities BIO2015-66426-R RTI2018-097142-B-100FEDER/Junta de Andalucia - Consejeria de Economia y Conocimiento E.FQM.113.UGR18Swedish National Infrastructure for computing (SNAC) 2018/2-3 2019/2-
