Visualizing the Periods of Stock Prices Using Non-Harmonic Analysis of the NASDAQ Composite Index Since 1985

Abstract: The prediction of stock prices is studied extensively, because of the demand from private investors and financial institutions. However, long-term prediction is difficult due to the large number of factors that affect the real market. Previous research has focused on the fluctuation patterns and fluctuation periodicity of stock prices. We have likewise focused on the periodicity of stock prices. We have used a new high-resolution frequency analysis (non-harmonic analysis) method can solve the previous problem of the frequency resolution being low. As a consequence, we have succeeded in visualizing the various periodicities of stock prices. The periodicity fluctuates gently in many periods, but we have confirmed that it fluctuated violently in periods when a sudden event occurred. We expect that this experimental result in combination with previous research will help increase predictive accuracy and will aid long-term prediction

Spontaneously Ruptured Giant Splenic Cyst with Elevated Serum Levels of CA 19-9, CA 125 and Carcinoembryonic Antigen

Splenic cyst is a relatively rare disease; however, the occurrence of complications associated with its rupture is even more rare. A 20-year-old female patient who had severe abdominal and left shoulder pain was admitted to our hospital. The patient's abdomen was hard and tender to the touch and she presented with a high fever. The patient's serum levels of the tumor markers carbohydrate antigen 19-9, cancer antigen 125 and carcinoembryonic antigen were high. Ultrasonography and computed tomography of the abdomen showed an 11-cm multilocular cystic lesion in the spleen and the presence of free intraperitoneal fluid. Peritonitis with ruptured splenic cyst was diagnosed, and the patient underwent an emergency laparotomy. The abdominal cavity was filled with purulent fluid. The cyst was localized to the spleen and had already ruptured. Total splenectomy and cyst resection were performed. The postoperative course was uneventful. The patient was discharged on day 9 following surgery. The histological findings showed the lesion to be a benign epidermoid cyst completely lined with inner stratified squamous epithelium with a capsule of connective tissue. In the immunostaining analyses, the squamous epithelium was positive for carcinoembryonic antigen. A ruptured splenic cyst causes sudden onset of severe peritonitis and elevation of serous tumor markers. An emergency operation is indicated as the treatment for a ruptured splenic cyst with peritonitis, after which a favorable outcome can be expected

Operator Projection Theory for Electron Differentiation in Underdoped Cuprate Superconductors

Metals approaching the Mott insulator generate a new hierarchy in the electronic structure accompanied by a momentum dependent electron differentiation, beyond the Mott-Hubbard, Brinkman-Rice and Slater pictures of the Mott transition. To consider such nonlinear phenomenon, we develop an analytic nonperturbative theory based on operator projections combined with a self-consistent treatment of the low-energy excitations. This reproduces the formation of the Hubbard bands, Mott gap, spin fluctuations, mass divergence, diverging charge compressibility, and strongly renormalized flat and damped dispersion similar to angle-resolved photoemission data in high-T_c cuprates. Main structures in electronic spectra show a remarkable similarity to numerical results.Comment: 11 pages, presented at ``Spectroscopies of Novel Superconductors 2001'

Identification of Autoantibodies against TRPM1 in Patients with Paraneoplastic Retinopathy Associated with ON Bipolar Cell Dysfunction

Background: Paraneoplastic retinopathy (PR), including cancer-associated retinopathy (CAR) and melanoma-associated retinopathy (MAR), is a progressive retinal disease caused by antibodies generated against neoplasms not associated with the eye. While several autoantibodies against retinal antigens have been identified, there has been no known autoantibody reacting specifically against bipolar cell antigens in the sera of patients with PR. We previously reported that the transient receptor potential cation channel, subfamily M, member 1 (TRPM1) is specifically expressed in retinal ON bipolar cells and functions as a component of ON bipolar cell transduction channels. In addition, this and other groups have reported that human TRPM1 mutations are associated with the complete form of congenital stationary night blindness. The purpose of the current study is to investigate whether there are autoantibodies against TRPM1 in the sera of PR patients exhibiting ON bipolar cell dysfunction. Methodology/Principal Findings: We performed Western blot analysis to identify an autoantibody against TRPM1 in the serum of a patient with lung CAR. The electroretinograms of this patient showed a severely reduced ON response wit

Skeletal Metastasis in Renal Cell Carcinoma: Photon Deficiency on Bone Scintigraphy

Bone scintigraphy with 99mTc-labeled phosphorous compound is an excellent technique for the detection of bone metastasis. Bone metastases are usually visualized as multiple hot spots on bone scintigraphy. However, photon deficiency in the metastatic lesion on bone scintigrams is reported in few cases with malignancy. In this study, we have evaluated the photopenic bone metastasis from renal cell carcinoma by the radiographic and computed tomographic examinations. Photon deficient metastatic lesions were seen on bone scintigraphy in 5 patients with renal cell carcinoma. All of the photon deficient lesions were osteolytic on bone radiography and computed tomography. The pure photon deficient lesions not associated with surrounding hot margins were seen on the thoracic vertebrae and rib and the ones with surrounding hot margins were seen on the sternum, pelvis and femur. This difference may be due to the differences in the growth rate of the tumor and reactive hyperemia and new bone formation in the metastatic lesions
