Thermoelectric generators for long duration lunar missions

The number of lunar missions involving the deployment of probes, rovers and other equipment is expected to raise significantly. Some of these missions will face the challenge to survive the night on the Moon, with very low temperatures on the surface. Solar thermal energy can be stored during the day and transformed into electricity at night. We present a study of the performance of thermoelectric modules. Some of the modules are used in simulations of a thermal energy storage system, which includes the test of different materials as a thermal mass. Lunar ISRU Energy Storage and Electricity Generation

The survival of the astronauts and their equipment is the priority for any long-term exploration mission to the Moon. The provision of energy during the long lunar nights is a critical part of these missions. Several approaches have recently been considered to store and provide energy on the Moon by means of ISRU (In-Situ Resource Utilisation). We present a review of the energy requirements for a long mission scenario, and a trade-off analysis of the potentially suitable technologies for an ISRU-based system able to store heat and generate electricity. El desajuste financiero y la elección de régimen cambiario

Los años 90 se caracterizaron por una gran inestabilidad en la magnitud y el costo de los flujos de capitales. La correlación de los vaivenes de los capitales entre países distintos sugiere que la calidad de las políticas de los mercados emergentes, además de los factores mundiales, han sido los factores principales de esta situación. Por lo tanto, la responsabilidad del desajuste financiero se ha alejado de las políticas internas inadecuadas. En vez de ello, el paradigma se ha desplazado hacia uno de determinar cuáles políticas internas o internacionales son las más eficaces para atemperar las repercusiones desestabilizadoras de los flujos de capitales inherentemente inestables.

Necessidades em cuidados paliativos do doente pós-AVC

PROBLEMÁTICA: Segundo a OMS os cuidados paliativos não se destinam apenas a doentes oncológicos sem hipótese de cura e devem ser integrados numa fase inicial da trajectória da doença. Os doentes pós-AVC são um dos grupos que pode beneficiar de cuidados paliativos. No entanto existe pouca literatura e investigação sobre as necessidades em cuidados paliativos de doentes pós-AVC. OBJECTIVO: Identificar as necessidades dos doentes pós-AVC em cuidados paliativos. DESENHO: Estudo qualitativo, revisão sistemática da literatura, metassíntese. MÉTODOS: Após pesquisa em bases de dados e repositórios científicos foram seleccionados 12 estudos que abordavam a temática em estudo. RESULTADOS: Os profissionais de saúde têm dúvidas sobre quais os doentes pós-AVC que podem beneficiar de cuidados paliativos e quando referenciar. Deve ser usado um instrumento de avaliação de necessidades para se identificar doentes pós-AVC com necessidades em cuidados paliativos. As necessidades destes doentes passam por controlo sintomático; comunicação e informação; decisões de fim de vida e atender às necessidades dos cuidadores. Os sintomas com maior prevalência são a dor e dispneia. Decisões de fim de vida relacionadas com a alimentação e hidratação são as que causa maior ansiedade na família e conflito com os profissionais. CONCLUSÃO: Uma forma de identificar doentes pós-AVC com necessidades em cuidados paliativos pode passar, talvez, por aferir impacto do AVC na vida do doente e posteriormente avaliar as necessidades em cuidados paliativos com um instrumento próprio para o efeito. As necessidades identificadas não são exclusivas de cuidados paliativos, mas quando presentes os doentes podem beneficiar da intervenção da equipa de cuidados paliativos.ABSTRACT: PROBLEM: WHO determines that palliative care is not just for cancer patients without cure and that palliative care should be initiated early in the disease. Post stroke patients are some of the patients that could benefit with palliative care. However the literature and investigation about post stroke patients needs in palliative care is scarse. METHODS: After researching in electronic data bases and cientific repositories 12 studies about the subject at study have been selected. RESULTS: Health care professionals have doubts about which post-stroke patients could benefit with palliative care and when referral to palliative care is needed. An needs assessment tool should be used to identify post stroke patients with palliative care needs. Some of the post stroke patients needs are symptomatic control; communication and information; end of life decisions; and attend to caregivers needs. The symptoms with higher prevalence are pain and dyspnea. End of life decisions related with nutrition and hydration are the ones that generate more anxiety in families and cause more conflicts between relatives and health care professionals. CONCLUSIONS: Post-stroke patients with palliative care needs may be identified by assessing the impact of the stroke in their lives and afterwards assessing their needs in palliative care, a proper screening tool should be used to assess those needs. The identified needs are not exclusive to palliative care, but when present patients might benefit with palliative care intervention

Liga portuguesa de futebol profissional – recommendations to marketing plan: initiatives to raise the affluence on lPFP games

JEL: M31- Marketing, Z20 – Sports Economics - GeneralThe thesis project is based on a subject that is one of the main problems on the football in Portugal – the low affluences. Nowadays, Portuguese football attendances are very low and this constitutes a huge problem for the sports sector in Portugal. Competitions organized by Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Professional (LPFP), have (in average) low attendance values. LPFP is the entity who rules professional football in Portugal and is responsible for the professional competitions in Portugal – Primeira Liga, Segunda Liga and Taça da Liga. All of these 3 competitions have been facing some problems in terms of low values of affluences. With that the Portuguese football is losing some notoriety and value towards other competitions in Europe. The project will answer to the main problems of this situation with a set of initiatives englobed as recommendations to the marketing plan of LPFP. The initiatives will be created regarding a deep analysis of the internal and external environment of LPFP combined with a marketing strategy with targeting, positioning, segmentation and creating a set of initiatives that will answer the main problems. The results of the thesis will be forwarded to LPFP, hopping to be considered, for the good of Portuguese football.Este projeto de tese é baseado num dos maiores problemas do Futebol em Portugal – As fracas afluências. Hoje em dia, as afluências aos estádios portugueses são muito baixas e isto representa um grande problema para o futebol e Portugal. As competições organizadas pela Liga Portuguesa de Futebol Profissional (LPFP), têm em média valores muito reduzidos de afluência. LPFP é a entidade que gera todo o Futebol profissional em Portugal e é responsável pela realização das comeptições profissionais de futebol em Portugal – Primeira Liga, Segunda Liga e Taça da Liga. Todas as 3 competições têm sofrido problemas com as fracas afluências. Com isto, o futebol português está a perder notoriedade e valor quando comparado com as outras ligas europeias. Este projeto irá responder aos principais problemas desta questão criando um conjunto de iniciativas que servirão de recomendações para o actual palno de marketing da LPFP. As iniciativas serão criadas segundo uma profunda análise interna e externa da situação da LPFP aliando a uma estratégia de marketing fundamentada com posicionamento, segmentação e target, dando resposta aos problemas encontrados. Os resultado deste projeto será enviado para a LPFP, esperando uma apreciação por parte da entidade para o bem do futebol português

Design de Amplificadores Resíduo para Aplicações em ADCs Pipeline

Desenvolvimento de um amplificador resíduo para aplicações em conversores analógico digitais concorrenciais, baseando-se em técnicas como amplificação com realimentação positiva, amplificação paramétrica e montagem dreno-comum, tentando construir um amplificador dinâmico com tecnologia CMOS avançada de 130 nm. O objectivo deste amplificador é connseguir um ganho nominal entre 4x (V/V) e 8 (V/V). Utilizamos uma montagem seguidora de ganho aproximadamente 1, desprezando o efeito de corpo, conseguindo obter o ganho através da diferença entre os valores das capacidades entre as duas fases. Posteriormente ao dimensionamento, fazemos a análise de ganho, análise FFT e consumo. Obteu-se um ganho nominal de 4 e um amplificador que funciona num leque alargado de temperaturas [-40º, 140º] com um consumo bastante baixo - 92 uW -, a 10 Mhz.Development of a residual amplifier for applications in competitive digital analog converters, based on techniques such as positive feedback amplification, parametric amplification and common drain assembly, trying to build a dynamic amplifier with 130 nm advanced CMOS technology. The purpose of this amplifier is to achieve a nominal gain between 4x (V/V) and 8x (V/V). We used a follower assembly of approximately 1 gain, disregarding the body effect, managing to obtain the gain through the difference between the values of the capacities between the two phases. After dimensioning, we do the analysis of gain, FFT analysis and consumption. A nominal gain of 4 was obtained and an amplifier that operates in a wide range of temperatures [-40º, 140º] with a very low consumption - 92 uW -, at 10 Mhz

Este texto teórico aborda os desafios de a Agroecologia se consolidar como um campo científico, visto que muitos pesquisadores envolvidos em sua temática requerem para ela o status de Ciência, ao mesmo tempo em que a sua postura epistemológica questiona severamente os paradigmas vigentes no campo científico. Aqui se defende que a Agroecologia pertence também ao campo científico, não negando que ela possa pertencer a outros campos, e que esse pertencimento é estratégico para evitar o seu desvirtuamento. A partir disso remete ao funcionamento dos campos científicos na busca de elementos que auxiliem a Agroecologia a superar as críticas, marginalizações e preconceitos de uma nova ciência que deseja estabelecer os seus novos paradigmas

Viroids: Survivors from the RNA World?

Because RNA can be a carrier of genetic information and a biocatalyst, there is a consensus that it emerged before DNA and proteins, which eventually assumed these roles and relegated RNA to intermediate functions. If such a scenario--the so-called RNA world--existed, we might hope to find its relics in our present world. The properties of viroids that make them candidates for being survivors of the RNA world include those expected for primitive RNA replicons: (a) small size imposed by error-prone replication, (b) high G + C content to increase replication fidelity, (c) circular structure for assuring complete replication without genomic tags, (d) structural periodicity for modular assembly into enlarged genomes, (e) lack of protein-coding ability consistent with a ribosome-free habitat, and (f) replication mediated in some by ribozymes, the fingerprint of the RNA world. With the advent of DNA and proteins, those protoviroids lost some abilities and became the plant parasites we now know.Peer reviewe
