    The Effectiveness of Using Extensive Reading Approach Combined with Literature Circle Strategy Toward Students' Reading Ability

    This study aims to determine whether there is effect of using Extensive Reading Approach Combined with Literature Circle Strategy on Students’ Reading Ability. The research used Quantitative Approach with Quasi Exsperimental Design. The population of this research was the students of English Education Study Program at UINFAS Bengkulu academic years 2022/2023, 40 students were taken as sample. The sampling technique used in this research was purposive sampling. In this study, 6A was used as an experimental class and 6C was used as an control class The data were collected by using reading comprehension test. The data obtained were analyzed by using t-test formula. Based  on the table p-output of Sig. (2-tailed) was 0,000< 0,05 and t-count value was 4,260, while the t table's df= n-2 = 40-2 was 38. (2,024). Based on the t-distribution table's ta=t.0,025 value. It can be said that H0 was rejected and Ha was accepted. It showed that there was effect of using Extensive Reading Approach combined with Literature Circle Strategy on students’ reading ability

    Time reconciliation on Fort Marlborough’s design and functions

    Fort Marlborough is one of the tourism objects in Bengkulu. It has withstood for more than 300 years. During its time, it has gone through many things. As a vital asset for Bengkulu province, a special attention is needed in developing and preserving this site. In some cases, there are many historical heritage buildings were gone or in purpose changed. This article tried to discuss Fort Marlborough from time reconciliation point of view. To get better comprehension and understanding about it, an interdisciplinary study is needed. Socio-cultural and historical theories are applied to reach its goals. In conclusion, it was found that Fort Marlborough experienced good and bad time in its life. There were also changes in its design and function. The design was not changed much, but the great changes were found in its functions

    A Textbook Evaluation On English Textbook Entitled “Grow With English” Used By Students Of MI Nurul Huda Bengkulu City

    Based on the perception of the teacher and students in Madrasah Ibtidaiyyah (MI) Nurul Huda Bengkulu City when the researchers conducted an observation, the textbook is suitable for use in the teaching and learning process. Based on those perceptions, this study was intended to evaluate the quality on English textbooks Grow with English published by Erlangga Publisher used by students grade V and IV of MI Nurul Huda Bengkulu city with how much it meets the requirement of good EFL textbook considered four criteria, namely: (1) Subjects  and Contents; (2) Skills and Sub-skills; (3) Layout and Physical Make-up; and (4) Practical Consideration viewed by teacher and see students perception about these textbooks. This study used a quantitative research approach. Total population of this study were 114 students and 1 english teacher. Samples of this research were 25% of the population or 29 students which divided into 2 grades. 15 students from 5th grade and 14 students taken from 4th grade. In collecting data, researchers used checklist as the instrument which adapted from Demir and Ertas. Both textbooks was qualified based on the score ranges which divided into very bad (0-20), bad (21-40), fairly good (41-60), good (61-80), very good (81-100). The result of this study was first, Grow with English for grade five was categorized as good toward the four criteria of good EFL textbook requirements. It reached 79,78% of total score while 80,48% by students’ perception and 79,08% viewed by teachers’s perspective. Second, Grow with English for grade four was categorized  as  good  because  the  total  score  toward  the  four  criteria  is 77,77%. The total score was gained from 80,9% based on students’ perception and 74,65% viewed by teacher’s perspective. So based on the result of this study, it can concluded that both of textbooks met the criteria in fulfilling the requirements of good EFL textbook criteria covering the availability of materials based on Subjects and Contents, Skills and Sub-skills, Layout and Physical Make-up, and the Practical

    Designing English Language Teaching Materials For Tourism Based on Project-Based Learning for English Education Study Program Students

    This study aims to develop English language teaching materials based on the Project-Based Learning (PBL) learning model for English for Tourism course. This study used a research and development (R&amp;D) with the ADDIE model whose stages consist of analysis, design, development, implementation, and evaluation. Participants in this study were 5th semester students majoring in English Language Education at one of the state Islamic universities in Bengkulu. Data collection techniques used observation, interviews, and questionnaires. The prototype of the development of teaching materials was validated by experts in content, language and design. Then, the teaching materials were tested on individual, small group, and large group. The results of the validation of teaching materials had an overall average value of 81.9%. Meanwhile, the overall trial of teaching materials found a value of 78%. Then, the results of interviews and project assessments showed that the developed teaching materials increased student motivation and competence in learning. The conclusion is that the development of teaching materials based on Project-Based Learning is qualified as good and suitable to use in the classroom learning process

    The Use of Word Walls Technique to Improve Students’ Eleventh Grade Writing Ability in Descriptive Text

    This study aims to determine the differences in cognitive learning outcomes (in the form of pre-test and post-test scores) of students in class X IPA 1 as a control class and class XI IPA 4 as experimental class at SMA N 1 Bengkulu Tengah, by providing treatment using the Word Walls. This type of research is Quasi Experiment. The population is eleventh grade students of SMA N 1 Bengkulu Tengah with 368 students. From this population, 37 students were taken as samples. Each class is 35 students XI IPA 1 and 35 students XI MIPA 4. Research data were collected through writing tests and documentation. The results showed a significant change in the experimental class with an average value of 71.63 while in the control class an average value of 58,37. The post-test results show that the Word Walls strategy can improve students' writing skills. Thus, the Word Walls strategy can be one of effective strategy to increase students‟ writing ability

    Permasalahan terkait seringnya dijumpai para guru mata pelajaran Bahasa Inggris di Madrasah yang mengajar tidak sesuai kompetensinya, menuntut para guru tersebut untuk mengikuti program- program yang berorientasi pada pengembangan kompetensi pedagogik yang salah satunya adalah English Language Teachers Training (ELTT) yang dilaksanakan oleh Kedutaan Besar Amerika Serikat – Jakarta.Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui penerapan program ELTT serta melihat peran program tersebut pada kompetensi pedagogik para guru Bahasa Inggris Madrasah & Pesantren di Provinsi Bengkulu.Penelitian ini menggunakan pendekatan penelitian deskriptif kualitatif dengan teknik pengambilan data berupa wawancara, observasi dan teknik dokumentasi.Hasil yang didapat dari penelitian ini adalah terdapat dua materi yang dipelajari oleh para guru dalam program ini, yaitu ELTeach dan Professional Knowledge (PK).Dalam hal partisipasi para guru, program ini menggunakan model pembelajaran hybriddan peserta dibagi menjadi 5 kelompok dengan dipimpin oleh para trainers.Para peserta tersebut menggunakan National Geographic Learning yang meliputi materi pembelajaran, praktik materi, dan penilaian sebagai platform pembelajaran.Program ELTT ini juga terbukti  memberikan dampak yang positif bagi para guru dan siswa mereka di Madrasah, terutama dalam meningkatkan pengelolaan kelas, metode pengajaran yang lebih bervariasi, kemampuan guru dalam menciptakan konten yang lebih menarik, serta pembelajaran yang berbasis pada proses dan luara
