Leptoquark patterns unifying neutrino masses, flavor anomalies, and the diphoton excess
Vector leptoquarks provide an elegant solution to a series of anomalies and
at the same time generate naturally light neutrino masses through their mixing
with the standard model Higgs boson. We present a simple Froggatt-Nielsen model
to accommodate the B physics anomalies and , neutrino masses, and
the GeV diphoton excess in one cohesive framework adding only two vector
leptoquarks and two singlet scalar fields to the standard model field content.Comment: 12 pages, 10 figures; final version published in PR

Personality Characteristics Which Predispose Potentially Self-Destructive Behaviors
In the college setting, many adolescents choose to engage in potentially self-destructive behaviors such as smoking, drinking, and body piercing, despite the associated risks. It is hypothesized that the tendency to participate in these behaviors is correlated with personality characteristics. Personality tests measuring sensation seeking, locus of control, and impulsiveness, along with three scales measuring the tendency to participate in three self-destructive behaviors: smoking, drinking, and body decoration, were administered to 102 college-aged students. Results showed that most of the self-destructive behaviors were negatively correlated with subscales of the sensation seeking measure. One possible explanation of these results would be the conservative, Catholic, campus culture of the university. However, more research is necessary to substantiate this type of group difference
Electrochemical synthesis and characterization of self-supported polypyrrole-DBS-MWCNT electrodes
The electrochemical conditions (electrolyte potential window, monomeric oxidation) for the synthesis of polypyrrole-
dodecylbenzenesulfonate-multiwalled carbon nanotube (PPy-DBS-MWCNT) composite were determined.
Thick PPy-DBS-MWNT films were electrogenerated and peeled off from the working electrode. Selfsupported
PPy-DBS-MWCNT electrodes were fabricated. The morphology of the film was analyzed by SEM.
Self-supported electrodes were characterized by potential cycling and by consecutive square potential waves
in NaClO4 aqueous solution with different cathodic potential limits. Higher reduced structures (the current
never drops to zero) are obtained and analyzed fromvoltammetric responses until rising cathodic potential limits
(up toâ5 V). For high cathodic potentials (Nâ1 V) a slow hydrogen evolution coexists with the film reduction,
as revealed from coulovoltammetric (charge-potential) responses, and the reduction rate decreaseswithout significant
polymeric degradation. Degradation of the material electroactivity in NaClO4 is initiated by anodic
overpotentials beyond 1.2 V. Both, oxidation and reduction chronoamperometric responses prove the presence
of nucleation processes, most significant during oxidation. Chronocoulometric responses illustrate slower oxidation
rates from deeper reduced initial states. The electrochemical responses are explained by reaction-driven
conformational and structural changes that are clarified by the coulovoltammetric response
Dispersion of tracer particles in a compressible flow
The turbulent diffusion of Lagrangian tracer particles has been studied in a
flow on the surface of a large tank of water and in computer simulations. The
effect of flow compressibility is captured in images of particle fields. The
velocity field of floating particles has a divergence, whose probability
density function shows exponential tails. Also studied is the motion of pairs
and triplets of particles. The mean square separation is fitted to
the scaling form ~ t^alpha, and in contrast with the
Richardson-Kolmogorov prediction, an extended range with a reduced scaling
exponent of alpha=1.65 pm 0.1 is found. Clustering is also manifest in strongly
deformed triangles spanned within triplets of tracers.Comment: 6 pages, 4 figure
