Integrating hot and cool intelligences: Thinking Broadly about Broad Abilities
Although results from factor-analytic studies of the broad, second-stratum abilities of human intelligence have been fairly consistent for decades, the list of broad abilities is far from complete, much less understood. We propose criteria by which the list of broad abilities could be amended and envision alternatives for how our understanding of the hot intelligences (abilities involving emotionally-salient information) and cool intelligences (abilities involving perceptual processing and logical reasoning) might be integrated into a coherent theoretical framework
Generalized Fock spaces and the Stirling numbers
The Bargmann-Fock-Segal space plays an important role in mathematical
physics, and has been extended into a number of directions. In the present
paper we imbed this space into a Gelfand triple. The spaces forming the
Fr\'echet part (i.e. the space of test functions) of the triple are
characterized both in a geometric way and in terms of the adjoint of
multiplication by the complex variable, using the Stirling numbers of the
second kind. The dual of the space of test functions has a topological algebra
structure, of the kind introduced and studied by the first named author and G.

Unambiguous 1-Uniform Morphisms
A morphism h is unambiguous with respect to a word w if there is no other
morphism g that maps w to the same image as h. In the present paper we study
the question of whether, for any given word, there exists an unambiguous
1-uniform morphism, i.e., a morphism that maps every letter in the word to an

The High-Mass End of the Red Sequence at z~0.55 from SDSS-III/BOSS: completeness, bimodality and luminosity function
We have developed an analytical method based on forward-modeling techniques
to characterize the high-mass end of the red sequence (RS) galaxy population at
redshift , from the DR10 BOSS CMASS spectroscopic sample, which
comprises galaxies. The method, which follows an unbinned maximum
likelihood approach, allows the deconvolution of the intrinsic CMASS
colour-colour-magnitude distributions from photometric errors and selection
effects. This procedure requires modeling the covariance matrix for the i-band
magnitude, g-r colour and r-i colour using Stripe 82 multi-epoch data. Our
results indicate that the error-deconvolved intrinsic RS distribution is
consistent, within the photometric uncertainties, with a single point
() in the colour-colour plane at fixed magnitude, for a
narrow redshift slice. We have computed the high-mass end () of the -band RS Luminosity Function (RS LF) in several redshift
slices within the redshift range . In this narrow redshift range,
the evolution of the RS LF is consistent, within the uncertainties in the
modeling, with a passively-evolving model with Mpc mag, fading at a rate of mag per
unit redshift. We report RS completeness as a function of magnitude and
redshift in the CMASS sample, which will facilitate a variety of
galaxy-evolution and clustering studies using BOSS. Our forward-modeling method
lays the foundations for future studies using other dark-energy surveys like
eBOSS or DESI, which are affected by the same type of photometric

Magnetic White Dwarfs from the SDSS II. The Second and Third Data Releases
Fifty-two magnetic white dwarfs have been identified in spectroscopic
observations from the Sloan Digital Sky Survey (SDSS) obtained between mid-2002
and the end of 2004, including Data Releases 2 and 3. Though not as numerous
nor as diverse as the discoveries from the first Data Release, the collection
exhibits polar field strengths ranging from 1.5MG to ~1000MG, and includes two
new unusual atomic DQA examples, a molecular DQ, and five stars that show
hydrogen in fields above 500MG. The highest-field example, SDSSJ2346+3853, may
be the most strongly magnetic white dwarf yet discovered. Analysis of the
photometric data indicates that the magnetic sample spans the same temperature
range as for nonmagnetic white dwarfs from the SDSS, and support is found for
previous claims that magnetic white dwarfs tend to have larger masses than
their nonmagnetic counterparts. A glaring exception to this trend is the
apparently low-gravity object SDSSJ0933+1022, which may have a history

APOGEE Kinematics I: Overview of the Kinematics of the Galactic Bulge as Mapped by APOGEE
We present the stellar kinematics across the Galactic bulge and into the disk
at positive longitudes from the SDSS-III APOGEE spectroscopic survey of the
Milky Way. APOGEE includes extensive coverage of the stellar populations of the
bulge along the mid-plane and near-plane regions. From these data, we have
produced kinematic maps of 10,000 stars across longitudes 0 deg < l < 65 deg,
and primarily across latitudes of |b| < 5 deg in the bulge region. The APOGEE
data reveal that the bulge is cylindrically rotating across all latitudes and
is kinematically hottest at the very centre of the bulge, with the smallest
gradients in both kinematic and chemical space inside the inner-most region
(l,|b|) < (5,5) deg. The results from APOGEE show good agreement with data from
other surveys at higher latitudes and a remarkable similarity to the rotation
and dispersion maps of barred galaxies viewed edge on. The thin bar that is
reported to be present in the inner disk within a narrow latitude range of |b|
< 2 deg appears to have a corresponding signature in [Fe/H] and [alpha/Fe].
Stars with [Fe/H] > -0.5 have dispersion and rotation profiles that are similar
to that of N-body models of boxy/peanut bulges. There is a smooth kinematic
transition from the thin bar and boxy bulge (l,|b|) < (15,12) deg out into the
disk for stars with [Fe/H] > -1.0, and the chemodynamics across (l,b) suggests
the stars in the inner Galaxy with [Fe/H] > -1.0 have an origin in the disk.Comment: Accepted by ApJ 15 December 201
