    IMPROVED LOW FREQUENCY ACCELEROMETER CALIBRATION

    This paper will discuss a newly developed implementation of low frequency accelerometer calibrations. The goal is an improved low frequency accelerometer calibration system capable of performing quality measurements with low uncertainties while maintaining good throughput and the simplicity of traditional back-to-back calibration techniques. By using an optical encoder as the measurement reference instead of a traditional reference accelerometer, limitations due to shaker stroke length are nearly eliminated, with the practical limitation for a quality calibration measurement at ultra low frequency being the resolution of the sensor under test itself

    Influence of oxygen ordering kinetics on Raman and optical response in YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.4}

    Kinetics of the optical and Raman response in YBa_2Cu_3O_{6.4} were studied during room temperature annealing following heat treatment. The superconducting T_c, dc resistivity, and low-energy optical conductivity recover slowly, implying a long relaxation time for the carrier density. Short relaxation times are observed for the B_{1g} Raman scattering -- magnetic, continuum, and phonon -- and the charge transfer band. Monte Carlo simulations suggest that these two relaxation rates are related to two length scales corresponding to local oxygen ordering (fast) and long chain and twin formation (slow).Comment: REVTeX, 3 pages + 4 PostScript (compressed) figure

    BRD9 is a druggable component of interferon-stimulated gene expression and antiviral activity

    Interferon (IFN) induction of IFN-stimulated genes (ISGs) creates a formidable protective antiviral state. However, loss of appropriate control mechanisms can result in constitutive pathogenic ISG upregulation. Here, we used genome-scale loss-of-function screening to establish genes critical for IFN-induced transcription, identifying all expected members of the JAK-STAT signaling pathway and a previously unappreciated epigenetic reader, bromodomain-containing protein 9 (BRD9), the defining subunit of non-canonical BAF (ncBAF) chromatin-remodeling complexes. Genetic knockout or small-molecule-mediated degradation of BRD9 limits IFN-induced expression of a subset of ISGs in multiple cell types and prevents IFN from exerting full antiviral activity against several RNA and DNA viruses, including influenza virus, human immunodeficiency virus (HIV1), and herpes simplex virus (HSV1). Mechanistically, BRD9 acts at the level of transcription, and its IFN-triggered proximal association with the ISG transcriptional activator, STAT2, suggests a functional localization at selected ISG promoters. Furthermore, BRD9 relies on its intact acetyl-binding bromodomain and unique ncBAF scaffolding interaction with GLTSCR1/1L to promote IFN action. Given its druggability, BRD9 is an attractive target for dampening ISG expression under certain autoinflammatory conditions

    A mathematical description of nerve fiber bundle trajectories and their variability in the human retina

    AbstractWe developed a mathematical model wherein retinal nerve fiber trajectories can be described and the corresponding inter-subject variability analyzed. The model was based on traced nerve fiber bundle trajectories extracted from 55 fundus photographs of 55 human subjects. The model resembled the typical retinal nerve fiber layer course within 20° eccentricity. Depending on the location of the visual field test point, the standard deviation of the calculated corresponding angular location at the optic nerve head circumference ranged from less than 1° to 18°, with an average of 8.8°

    Цель исследования – разработка социальной технологии равномерного разделения сложившегося коллектива на проектные группы. В процессе исследования проводилось разделение группы, состоящей из 20 студентов, на четыре мини-группы по 5 человек для реализации проектов, ранжирование полученных мини-групп по уровню сложности выполняемых задач и статистическая оценка эффективности разделения. В результате исследования учебная группа из 20 студентов была разделена на четыре мини-группы по 5 человек с коэффициентом модулярности кластеризации 0,284, проведено ранжирование полученных мини-групп по уровню сложности выполняемых задач, статистически оценено положительное влияние взаимодействия внутри мини-групп на индивидуальную академическую успеваемость студентов.The purpose of study is a development of social technology of uniform division of the existing staff in the project groups. During the study, there were conducted division of the group consisting of 20 students into four mini-groups of 5 people for the projects' realization, ranking of received mini-groups by the level of the task complexity to perform, and statistical evaluation of the division efficiency. As a result, the group of 20 students was divided into four mini-groups of 5 people with modularity coefficient of clustering equals to 0.284, ranking of received mini-groups by the level of the task complexity to perform was conducted, positive influence of interaction within mini-groups on individual academic performance of students was statistically estimated

    High Frequency of Chronic Bacterial and Non-Inflammatory Prostatitis in Infertile Patients with Prostatitis Syndrome Plus Irritable Bowel Syndrome

    Although prostatitis syndrome (PS) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS) are common disorders, information on the prevalence of IBS in infertile patients with PS is relatively scanty. Therefore, this study was undertaken to estimate the frequency of PS and IBS and to evaluate the prevalence of the various diagnostic categories of prostatitis.This study enrolled 152 patients with PS, diagnosed by the NIH-Chronic Prostatitis Symptom Index (NIH-CPSI) in an andrological setting, and 204 patients with IBS, diagnosed according to the Rome III diagnostic criteria in a gastroenterological setting. The patients with PS were asked to fulfill the Rome III questionnaire for IBS, whereas patients with IBS were asked to complete the NIH-CPSI. The simultaneous presence of PS and IBS was observed in 30.2% and 31.8% of the patients screened by andrologists and gastroenterologists, respectively. Altogether, 111 patients had PS plus IBS (31.2%). They had a total NIH-CPSI and pain subscale scores significantly higher than patients with PS alone. Gastrointestinal symptoms in patients with PS plus IBS were similar to those reported by patients with IBS alone and significantly greater in patients with PS alone. Patients with PS plus IBS had a significantly higher frequency of chronic bacterial prostatitis (category II) and lower of non-inflammatory prostatitis (category IIIB), compared to patients with PS alone. The frequency of inflammatory prostatitis (category IIIA) resulted similar.Prostatitis syndromes and IBS are frequently associated in patients with PS- or IBS-related symptoms.
