Substrate Binding Modulates the Reduction Potential of DNA Photolyase

The reduction potential of the (FADH-/FADH•) couple in DNA photolyase was measured, and the value was found to be significantly higher than the values estimated in the literature. In the absence of substrate, the enzyme has a reduction potential of 16 ± 6 mV vs NHE. In the presence of excess substrate the reduction potential increases to 81 ± 8 mV vs NHE. The increase in reduction potential has physiological relevance since it gives the catalytic state greater resistance to oxidation. This is the first measurement of a reduction potential for this class of DNA-repair enzymes and the larger family of blue-light photoreceptors

Gezonde School in het MBO: inventarisatie van aanbod en opstellen van een ontwikkelagenda

Een Gezonde School stimuleert op een integrale en structurele manier de gezondheid van studenten en werknemers. MBO-studenten vormen een belangrijke doelgroep voor preventie vanwege de relatief hoge prevalentie van ongezond gedrag. Met het oog op de vergrijzing en bijkomende aandacht voor duurzame inzetbaarheid groeit ook de behoefte aan gezondheidsbevordering bij werknemers in het MBO. Systematisch ontwikkeld aanbod van preventie voor en met het MBO heeft nog maar recentelijk een impuls gekregen. ZonMw heeft aangegeven gericht te willen investeren in de (door)ontwikkeling van Gezonde School in het MBO. Om een onderbouwde keuze te kunnen maken beschrijft het huidige rapport op systematische wijze het aanbod van gezondheidsbevorderende interventies voor het MBO en zijn de behoeften en prioriteiten van stakeholders die betrokken zijn bij gezondheidsbevordering in het MBO in kaart gebracht. Dit resulteert in een ontwikkelagenda voor Gezonde School in het MBO

Human occupation because of a regression, or the cause of a transgression? A critical review of the interaction between geological events and human occupation in the Belgian coastal plain during the first millenium AD

Through an interdisciplinary approach, this paper re-evaluates the common use of the Dunkerque transgression model as an explanation for the occurrence of gaps in the occupational history of the Belgian coastal plain, during the first millennium AD. The validity of the marine transgression model derived from a previous interpretation of the geological evidence is assessed; and new ideas about the geological history of the area are discussed. Alongside a re-assessment of the available archaeological data, new archaeological, historical and ecological evidence is reviewed and interpreted. The combined knowledge gained from this range of disciplines leads to a working hypothesis summarising the new ideas about the history of occupation in the coastal plain during the Roman and early medieval periods, explaining how the trends observed can be integrated with the geological and anthropogenic changes in the landscape
