What are Some New and Innovative Ways Companies are Encouraging, Delivering, and Utilizing Feedback?

    Get PDF
[Excerpt] The role of feedback in the employee experience is well entrenched. However, until relatively recently, its role in not only evaluating performance, but in shaping and improving it, has been largely misunderstood and misapplied. This includes not only giving meaningful feedback to employees, but receiving it as well. A recent survey conducted by Deloitte reports that 79% of companies survey employees annually or less. While conventional practices lead companies to meet the needs of shareholders above other stakeholders, turning attention to employee needs such as providing adequate feedback systems can enable companies and employees to better take care of customers, who in turn take care of shareholders in a reversal of the stakeholder arrangement

Optimized 4 pi spherical shell depleted uranium-water shield weights for 200 to 550-megawatt reactors

    Get PDF
Optimization calculations to determine minimum 4 pi spherical-shell weights were performed at 200-, 375-, and 550-megawatt-thermal reactor power levels. Monte Carlo analyses were performed for a reactor power level corresponding to 375 megawatts. Power densities for the spherical reactor model used varied from 64.2 to 256 watts per cubic centimeter. The dose rate constraint in the optimization calculations was 0.25 mrem per hour at 9.14 meters from the reactor center. The resulting shield weights were correlated with the reactor power levels and power densities by a regression analysis. The optimum shield weight for a 375-megawatt, 160-watt-per-cubic-centimeter reactor was 202,000 kilograms

This thesis explores the definition of Autism Spectrum Disorders and the process of receiving special education services for ASD children. It describes effective ASD strategies implemented in the classroom, and how these important processes could change in coming years with revisions to the diagnosis of ASD

'Still Children of the Dragon'? A review of three Chinese Australian heritage museums in Victoria

    Get PDF
The Museum of Chinese Australian History reopened on 29th August 2010 with newly refurbished exhibitions displaying Chinese Australian history and contemporary Chinese Australian identities. This article reviews the new exhibitions in comparison with the Gum San Heritage Centre at Ararat and the Golden Dragon Museum at Bendigo and specifically examines the way each museum represents being Chinese and being Australian. This will be shown by interrogating the historical representations, text and methods of display

Grice and Kant on Maxims and Categories

Apart from a passing reference to Kant, Grice never explains in his writings how he came to discover his conversational maxims. He simply proclaims them without justification. Yet regardless of how his ingenious invention really came about, one might wonder how the conversational maxims can be detected and distinguished from other sorts of maxims. We argue that the conversational maxims can be identified by the use of a transcendental argument in the spirit of Kant. To this end, we introduce Grice’s account of conversational maxims and categories and compare it briefly with Kant’s thoughts on categories. Subsequently, we pursue a thought experiment concerning what would happen if speakers constantly broke one or another of the maxims. It seems that it would not be possible for children to recognize a significant number of lexical meanings under such circumstances. Hence, the conversational maxims are rules whose occasional application is a necessary condition of language and conversation.Peer Reviewe
