Library Publishers as Educators: Crafting Curriculum for Undergraduate Research Journals
INTRODUCTION Library publishing programs continue to play an increasingly important role in educating their constituents. In particular, library publishers that support undergraduate student journals often provide guidance to students on both mechanical and conceptual issues related to publishing. This article presents a case study for developing a one-credit-hour course to support an undergraduate student journal publication, the Indiana University Journal of Undergraduate Research (IUJUR), at Indiana University Bloomington. DESCRIPTION OF COURSE The course is offered every fall as a mechanism for onboarding about thirty new undergraduate editors. The course was developed and taught by a librarian and an undergraduate student in consultation with IU’s Office of the Vice Provost for Undergraduate Education. Course curriculum touches on topics that scholarly communication and information literacy librarians alike can adapt for a variety of educational contexts, including authentic activities for understanding peer review models and applying publishing innovations. ASSESSMENT The article details both the formative and summative assessment strategies the instructor utilized to gauge student understanding of key publishing concepts. The summative assessment utilizes pre- and post-tests and extends previous library literature to evaluate students’ actual understanding of publishing concepts in addition to their perceived understanding and confidence. LIMITATIONS AND NEXT STEPS The course curriculum will continue to grow and change in order to accommodate students’ misconceptions and interests

Community pharmacy-based medication therapy management services: financial impact for patients

for patients resulting from Medication Therapy
Management (MTM) interventions made by
community pharmacists. Secondary objectives
include evaluating the patient and physician
acceptance rates of the community pharmacists’
recommended MTM interventions.
Methods: This was a retrospective observational
study conducted at 20 Price Chopper and Hen
House grocery store chain pharmacies in the
Kansas City metro area from January 1, 2010 to
December 31, 2010. Study patients were Medicare
Part D beneficiaries eligible for MTM services. The
primary outcome was the change in patient out-ofpocket
prescription medication expense as a result
of MTM services.
Results: Of 128 patients included in this study, 68%
experienced no out-of-pocket financial impact on
their medication expenses as a result of MTM
services. A total of 27% of the patients realized a
cost-savings (USD440.50 per year, (SD=289.69))
while another 5% of patients saw a cost increase in
out-of-pocket expense (USD255.66 per year,
(SD=324.48)). The net financial impact for all 128
patients who participated in MTM services was an
average savings of USD102.83 per patient per year
(SD=269.18, p<0.0001). Pharmacists attempted a
total of 732 recommendations; 391 (53%) were
accepted by both the patient and their prescriber. A
total of 341 (47%) recommendations were not
accepted because of patient refusal (290, 85%) or
prescriber refusal (51, 15%).
Conclusions: Patient participation in MTM services
reduces patient out-of-pocket medication expense.
However, this savings is driven by only 32% of
subjects who are experiencing a financial impact on
out-of-pocket medication expense. Additionally, the
majority of the pharmacists’ recommended
interventions (53%) were accepted by patients and
prescribers
Taking the Leap: Implementing a Migration to OJS 3
The Public Knowledge Project announced the release of Open Journal Systems (OJS) 3 in August 2016. In addition to a more streamlined interface OJS 3 offers important functionality, including more flexible roles, new plugins, and even the ability to operationalize XML-first publishing.
However, almost two years after the official release, several library publishers have not yet migrated to the newest version of OJS. In addition to the technical support needed to successfully plan and execute the migration, implementation often involves extensive outreach to editors on system changes and new functionality.
At the same time, library publishers that do decide to migrate often work in isolation, asking colleagues on listservs, Github, or other online forums for advice or information about their experience migrating. There are no formal community-developed outreach materials for library publishers to share communally and implement locally.
This session will present three case studies for the transition to OJS 3. One case study, from the University of Minnesota, will explore the migration from bepress to OJS 3. Two others, from Indiana University and Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis, will explore migrating a multi-site instance from OJS 2 to OJS 3. Each case study will be grounded in information about the library publishing program, timeline, size of the department, and level of technical support available.
In addition to presenting our process for completing the migration, we will share tangible outreach materials with participants. These include communication templates, training outlines, videos, and wikis created to support journal editors transition to OJS 3. The session will also present obstacles to success, which we hope will prompt a discussion about how to improve others’ planning process and eventually build community around this topic
Relationship between trust and usability in virtual environments: An ongoing study
Usability and trust have been observed to be related in several domains including web retail, information systems, and e-health. Trust in technology reflects beliefs about the attributes of a technology. Research has shown that trust is a key factor for the success of different systems – e.g., e-market, e-commerce, and social networks. Trust in technology can be supported or prevented by the perceived usability. Therefore, a low level of usability could compromise an individual’s trust in their use of a technology, resulting in a negative attitude towards a product. Even if this relationship has been seen as important in the fields listed above, there is limited research which empirically assesses trust and usability in virtual reality (VR). This work will present the first set of data on the relationship between usability and trust in VR. To gather this data, three different VR systems (Desktop 3D tool, CAVE, and a flight simulator) were tested. The findings show that (i) the best-known questionnaire to measure usability and trust could be applied to VR, (ii) there is a strong relationship between people’s satisfaction and trust in the use of VR, (iii) the relationship between usability and trust exists for different systems

For this reason the European Union needs to keep developing its unity in diversity in a dynamic way, be it with regard to energy issues, the euro, climate change or new types of conflict. Self-assertion and solidarity are the
fundamental concepts which will shape the forthcoming discourse. "Europe in Dialogue" wishes to make a contribution to this open debate. The analyses in this series subject political concepts, processes and institutions to critical scrutiny and suggest ways of reforming internal and external European policymaking so that it is fit for the future. However, "Europe in Dialogue" is not merely trying to encourage an intra-
European debate, and makes a point of including authors from non-EU states. Looking at an issue from a different angle or from a distance often helps to facilitate the crucial change of perspective which in turn makes it possible to continue to develop Europe in a meaningful way and to engage in a critical and yet courteous discourse with other civilizations and continents
‘I feel more part of the world’: Participatory action research to develop post-diagnostic dementia support
Many people living with dementia are ‘on the margins’, not accessing services and support, despite policy and care advancements. The COVID-19 pandemic exacerbated this, with the closure of face-to-face support during lockdowns in the UK and globally. The aim of the ‘Beyond the Margins’ project was to develop, implement, and evaluate a face-face programme of support with, by and for people with direct experience of dementia who are on the margins of existing services and support. In March 2020 the project was interrupted by the outbreak of the COVID-19 pandemic and it changed to an online format. The three-phase participatory action research project included 40 people living with dementia, 26 care partners and 31 health and social care practitioners. A seven-week online personal development programme called Getting On with Life (GO) was developed, delivered, and evaluated. This paper focuses on the participatory approaches used to develop and implement the GO programme, and the resulting aspects of its approach to facilitation and content. Key features include the GO Programme’s principles of providing a safe and a respectful space, and the programme’s values of: Everyone who comes already knows things, can learn things and can teach things; Doing things ‘with’ each other, rather than ‘for’ or ‘to’ each other; Personalised goals—led by the needs of participants rather than an imposed agenda. A key finding was the importance of developing post-diagnostic programmes as a ‘sandwich’, providing a safe space for learning that is preceded by understanding pathways to access the programme and followed by explicit consideration of the next steps in increasing social engagement
Using Wearable Technology to Quantify Physical Activity Recovery: Secondary Report From the AFTER (App-Facilitated Tele-Rehabilitation) Program for COVID-19 Survivors Randomized Study
Background: Knowledge on physical activity recovery after COVID-19 survival is limited. The AFTER (App-Facilitated Tele-Rehabilitation) program for COVID-19 survivors randomized participants, following hospital discharge, to either education and unstructured physical activity or a telerehabilitation program. Step count data were collected as a secondary outcome, and we found no significant differences in total step count trajectories between groups at 6 weeks. Further step count data were not analyzed.
Objective: The purpose of this analysis was to examine step count trajectories and correlates among all participants (combined into a single group) across the 12-week study period.
Methods: Linear mixed models with random effects were used to model daily steps over the number of study days. Models with 0, 1, and 2 inflection points were considered, and the final model was selected based on the highest log-likelihood value.
Results: Participants included 44 adults (41 with available Fitbit [Fitbit LLC] data). Initially, step counts increased by an average of 930 (95% CI 547-1312; PPPP
Conclusions: Participants showed a marked improvement in daily step counts during the first 3 weeks of the study, followed by more gradual improvement in the remaining 9 weeks. Physical activity data and step count recovery trajectories may be considered surrogates for physiological recovery, although further research is needed to examine this relationship
The Library-Press Partnership: An Overview and Two Case Studies
This article provides an overview of the changing role of the library in scholarly publishing and the rising phenomenon of library-press collaboration. It examines, through a literature review and two case studies, how and why the library has taken on this new role in scholarly publishing and created partnerships with university presses. The case studies describe current library-press partnerships from the perspective of institutional context, publishing services, and respective roles and responsibilities. Authors also briefly discuss the possible future of the library-press partnership in scholarly publishing
