Harnessing magnetic-mechano actuation in regenerative medicine and tissue engineering
Mechanical stimulus is of upmost importance in tissues
developmental and regeneration processes as well as in
maintaining body homeostasis. Classical physiological
reactions encompass an increase of blood vessel diameter
upon exposure to high blood pressure, or the expansion
of cortical bone after continuous high-impact exercise. At a cellular level, it is well established that extracellular stiffness, topography, and remote magnetic actuation are instructive mechanical signals for stem cell differentiation. Based on this, biomaterials and their
properties can be designed to act as true stem cell
regulators, eventually leading to important advances in conventional tissue engineering techniques. This review
identifies the latest advances and tremendous potential of magnetic actuation within the scope of regenerative medicine and tissue engineering
UTILITARISMO: A ÉTICA BASEADA NA CONSEQUÊNCIA DO ATO
This article aims to discuss utilitarianism, one of the most important theories of philosophical thinking about ethics. With more than a century and a half of existence, utilitarian thinking has evolved historically, becoming, today, one of the most sophisticated and respected philosophical schools. The utilitarian theory analyzes human actions from the perspective of utility and its consequences, calculating the contribution of such actions to general happiness. The consequences of actions, regardless of the agent's real character and intent, are the main point of the utilitarian theory, because only they can generate pleasure and pain. The fundamentals of moral conduct will be emphasized, mainly, the evaluation of human behavior through a single criterion of morality, the consequence of the act. In this context, an approach will be based on the foundation of this theory of generating the apex of pleasure and decrease pain, reaching the largest possible number of people. Achieving happiness is the goal of all the human conducts and the only requirement in the judgment of actions. Lastly, utilitarianism has been strongly influenced by the historical context, but has maintained over time the collective desire to solve the problem of humanity in achieving supreme happiness and simultaneously to discourage individualistic actions, tracing human behavior along the path of morality and ethics.O presente artigo tem como objetivo apresentar uma das mais importantes teorias do pensamento filosófico sobre ética, o utilitarismo.
Platelet lysate-loaded photocrosslinkable hyaluronic acid hydrogels for periodontal endogenous regenerative technology
The integrity and function of the periodontium can be compromised by traumatic injuries or periodontitis. Currently available clinical therapies are able to stop the progression of periodontitis and allow the healing of periodontal tissue. However an optimal strategy capable of restoring the anatomy and functionality of the lost periodontal tissue is still to be achieved. Herein is proposed the development of an injectable hydrogel system able to release a growth factors and cells to the periodontal defect. This injectable system is based on a photocrosslinkable hydrogel, prepared from methacrylated Hyaluronic Acid (me-HA) and incorporating Platelet Lysate (PL). The delivery of growth factors and cells in situ is expected to enhance regeneration of the periodontium. Various formulations of me-HA containing increasing PL concentrations were studied for achieving the formation of stable photocrosslinkable hydrogels. The produced hydrogels were subsequently characterized to assess mechanical properties, degradation, protein/growth factor release profile, antimicrobial activity and response towards human Periodontal Ligament fibroblasts (hPDLFs). The results demonstrated that it was possible to obtain stable photocrosslinkable hydrogels incorporating different amounts of PL that can be released in a sustained manner. Furthermore, the incorporation of PL improved (p<0.02) the viscoelastic properties of the hydrogels and enhanced their resilience to the degradation by hyaluronidase (HAase). Additionally, the PL showed to provide antimicrobial properties. Finally, hPDLFs, either seeded or encapsulated into the developed hydrogels, showed enhanced proliferation over time (p<0.05), proportionally to the increasing amounts of PL present in the hydrogel formulations

Efficient separation of carbon dioxide and methane in high-pressure and wet gas mixtures using Zr-MOF-808
The capture and separation of carbon dioxide (CO2) has been the focus of a plethora of research in order to mitigate its emissions and contribute to global development. Given that CO2 is commonly found in natural gas streams, there have been efforts to seek more efficient materials to separate gaseous mixtures such as CO2/CH4. However, there are only a few reports regarding adsorption processes within pressurized systems. In the offshore scenario, natural gas streams still exhibit high moisture content, necessitating a greater understanding of processes in moist systems. In this article, a metal-organic framework synthesis based on zirconium (MOF-808) was carried out through a conventional solvothermal method and autoclave for the adsorption of CO2 and CH4 under different temperatures (45–65 °C) and pressures up to 100 bar. Furthermore, the adsorption of humid CO2 was evaluated using thermal analyses. The MOF-808 synthesized in autoclave showed a high surface area (1502 m2/g), a high capacity for CO2 adsorption at 50 bar and 45 °C and had a low selectivity to capture CH4 molecules. It also exhibited a fine stability after five cycles of CO2 adsorption and desorption at 50 bar and 45 °C − as confirmed by structural post-adsorption analyses while maintaining its adsorption capacity and crystallinity. Furthermore, it can be observed that the adsorption capacity increased in a humid environment, and that the adsorbent remained stable after adsorption cycles in the presence of moisture. Finally, it was possible to confirm the occurrence of physisorption processes through nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) analyses, thus validating the choice of mild temperatures for regeneration and contributing to the reduction of energy consumption in processing plants

The theme of this article is The Judicialization of Health: Challenging the Effectivation of the Fundamental Guarantee. The following problem was investigated: "Does judicialization cause injustice?" The following hypothesis was considered: "It is not injustice to the extent that the State does not offer health effectively." The overall objective is to "Demonstrate the leading cause of judicialization." The specific objectives are: "Investigate the sector most affected by the lack of care"; "Examine the State as a guarantor of rights"; "Demonstrate the reasons of judicialization". This work is important from an individual perspective because of the number of people dead awaiting emergency health care; for science, it is relevant because it provokes the perception that investing in emergency care is essential to reduce judicialization; It adds to society for the fact that such a premise saves lives, the most valuable asset within the legal system, essential for the Democratic Rule of Law. This is a theoretical qualitative research lasting six months.
