This article analyses how Brazil, Chile and Colombia acted to foster exports of creative goods and services during the period from 2011 to 2020. It deals with the strategies of internationalisation and public policies focusing on the first phase of the public policy cycle: agenda setting and formulation of alternatives. A review of the main policies of each country is made followed by an analysis about how Brazil articulated public actors to design its strategies in comparison with Chile’s and Colombia’s policies. The results suggest that these countries in general follow different strategies, the most important of them was the creation in Chile and Colombia of legal and institutional frameworks that deal with public policies towards the creative sectors in a transversal way, while in Brazil this was not effective enough. On the other hand, it was possible to observe a few similarities, such as the participation of private sector entities in promoting creative exports.Este artigo analisa como Brasil, Chile e Colômbia atuaram para fomentar as exportações de bens e serviços criativos durante o período de 2011 a 2020. Traballo Fin de Grao en Lingua e Literatura Inglesas. Curso 2017-2018In this final project what I am going to work on is an approach to the concept of the monster in relation to Robert Louis Stevenson's book the Strange Case of Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde. Stevenson's different vision of the figure of the monster. I am also going to relate this to the historical and later on mythical character of Jack the Ripper, who happened to commit his crimes not long after Stevenson released his book, and the different speculations revolving around him. This finsl project will also include how this comes in relation with the English society of that time and Stevenson's interpretation of the dualty of human nature. This means, reflecting on the similarities between both the fictional character Dr. Jekyll and his other salt Mr. Hyde and the culprit of the so called Whitechapel Murders. I will also mention how all of this affected the reception of Stevenson's work during these times. The beginning of a new concept of monster. The well-known regulatory function of microRNAs seems to play an important role in disease mechanism. Recent hypotheses have positioned them as a promising option for the study of genetic disorders. In this context, the microRNA profile of three phenotypically related rare genodermatoses, namely Recessive Dystrophic Epidermolysis Bullosa, Kindler Syndrome and Xeroderma Pigmentosum type C, is going to be analyzed taking as a reference healthy controls within the frame of network medicine concepts. Bioinformatics tools have proven to be essential to keep track of the alteration of the dysregulated microRNAs all over the organism. This thesis provides a direct correlation between the real and observable symptoms of the three conditions and the distortion at molecular level caused by pathogenic pathways. From the network analysis and functional enrichment analysis, a small selection of microRNAs and target genes are proposed as potential candidates for further research. Thus, with this project, it becomes evident the need of powerful predictive research tools previous to laboratory validation. In the considerably new field of microRNAs, the design and elaboration of more precise treatments as well as the discovery of biomarkers for early detection prevail among the possible different applications.Ingeniería Biomédic

Intercalating cobalt between graphene and iridium (111): a spatially-dependent kinetics from the edges

Using low-energy electron microscopy, we image in real time the intercalation of a cobalt monolayer between graphene and the (111) surface of iridium. Our measurements reveal that the edges of a graphene flake represent an energy barrier to intercalation. Based on a simple description of the growth kinetics, we estimate this energy barrier and find small, but substantial, local variations. These local variations suggest a possible influence of the graphene orientation with respect to its substrate and of the graphene edge termination on the energy value of the barrier height. Besides, our measurements show that intercalated cobalt is energetically more favorable than cobalt on bare iridium, indicating a surfactant role of graphene

Over the years, Aedes aegypti has become one of the greatest public health concerns, as it is responsible for transmitting arboviruses such as dengue, yellow fever, Chikungunya and Zika. The development of methodologies to attract and combat this species of mosquito is explored in different ways, such as sound, smell and visual. However, they may require expenditures on financial resources or logistical limitations. Therefore, in this research an application was developed for smartphones capable of attracting the dengue mosquito (Ae. aegypti) by sound, by reproducing the frequencies of the beating of its wings. The methodology involved several tests in the laboratory in which the effectiveness of the application was evaluated. The solution to this problem contributes to increasing the effi ciency of traps developed to contain the mosquito. It can also be a technological advance for the health agents responsible for combating the mosquito. The application will not use extra resources beyond the user’s own smartphone and can be used in conjunction with another application to identify the mosquito. Likewise, the user must be aware and careful when using the application, considering that he may be exposed to mosquito bites

OBJECTIVE: To analyze the spatial distribution and identify high-risk spatial clusters of Zika, dengue, and chikungunya (ZDC), in the city of Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, and their socioeconomic status. METHODS: An ecological study based on data from a seroprevalence survey. Using a rapid diagnostic test to detect the arboviruses, 2,114 individuals were tested in 2018. The spatial distribution was analyzed using kernel estimation. To detect high-risk spatial clusters of arboviruses, we used multivariate scan statistics. The Social Development Index (SDI) was considered in the analysis of socioeconomic status. RESULTS: Among the 2,114 individuals, 1,714 (81.1%) were positive for at least one arbovirus investigated. The kernel estimation showed positive individuals for at least one arbovirus in all regions of the city, with hot spots in the North, coincident with regions with very low or low SDI. The scan statistic detected three significant (p<0.05) high-risk spatial clusters for Zika, dengue, and chikungunya viruses. These clusters correspond to 35.7% (n=613) of all positive individuals of the sample. The most likely cluster was in the North (cluster 1) and overlapped regions with very low and low SDI. Clusters 2 and 3 were in the West and overlapping regions with low and very low SDI, respectively. The highest values of relative risks were in cluster 1 for CHIKV (1.97), in cluster 2 for ZIKV (1.58), and in cluster 3 for CHIKV (1.44). Regarding outcomes in the clusters, the Flavivirus had the highest frequency in clusters 1, 2, and 3 (42.83%, 54.46%, and 52.08%, respectively). CONCLUSION: We found an over-risk for arboviruses in areas with the worst socioeconomic conditions in Rio de Janeiro. Moreover, the highest concentration of people negative for arboviruses occurred in areas considered to have better living conditions
