The way in which search results are presented allows the user to grasp the composition of the set of images "at a glance". To do so, images are grouped and positioned according to their distribution in a prosemantic feature space which encodes information about their content at an abstraction level that can be placed between visual and semantic information. The compactness of the feature space allows a fast analysis of the image distribution so that all the computation can be performed in real time

    Identification of Energy Path in the Interaction between Compressor and Refrigerator

    Refrigeration equipments, in particular domestic refrigerators, are devices that are present in our day to day. Often, these devices are very close to our workplaces, laser or rest, where the noise produced by such sources can be intense enough to cause discomforting sensations, fatigue, or even to prejudice the communication between the people. Thus, the concern with the noise produced from these devices has gained a great importance both for consumers and for manufacturers of refrigerators. Thinking in area of control of noise and vibrations, is of great importance the precise knowledge about the dynamic behavior of the components of the refrigerator, and the iteration between them, so that efficient designs and / or optimization can be realized. Many difficulties have been encountered in the identifying the main means of propagation of vibration energy and acoustic energy in a refrigerator. Thus, this paper presents a study about identification of energy path in the interaction between compressor and refrigerator, using experimental techniques of elimination of energy paths from compressor. The results and conclusions, related to the end of the work, show the level of importance of the contribution of each path in the total noise of a refrigerator, showing goods evidences of the main paths to invest and reduce the total noise

By coupling the prosemantic features and the relevance feedback mechanism provided by QuickLook2, the user can move in a more rapid and precise way through the feature space toward the intended goal. The prosemantic features are obtained by a two-step feature extraction process. At the first step, low level features related to image structure and color distribution are extracted from the images. At the second step, these features are used as input to a bank of classifiers, each one trained to recognize a given semantic category, to produce score vectors. DOI: 10.1057/s41262-018-0104-6This research provides a comprehensive overview of the brand experience effects and proposes an extension to the brand experience model by testing novel direct, moderating, and mediating relationships. The authors conducted a meta-analysis of 256 quantitative studies in 73 papers published between 2009 and 2015. The findings reveal new empirical generalizations about the relationship between brand experience and the relevant constructs. The findings demonstrate the positive influence of brand experience on brand satisfaction and positive influence of brand satisfaction on brand trust, brand loyalty, and word-of-mouth (WOM). Furthermore, this research uncovers important mediation variables (hedonic benefits, brand love, and brand personality) of the relationship between brand experience and brand satisfaction. This paper also tests the moderation effects of methodological (e.g., sample type, sample size), theoretical (product type and product lifecycle), and cultural variables (e.g., level of innovation, level of wealth and Human Development Index). The findings extend the brand experience model, helping managers to understand the positive outcomes of brand experience on satisfaction and to invest in actions that can enhance the brand experience. Furthermore, this study shows that brand managers should consider culture is a key factor when crafting branding experience strategies.authorsversionpublishe

    DOMAIN-SPECIFIC INNOVATIVENESS: A META-ANALYSIS IN BUSINESS AND CONSUMER

    The specific domain of a product and the perception of innovation are topics that aroused interest in research in the last twenty years, especially after the development of the domain-specific innovativeness (DSI) construct. This paper conducted a meta-analysis to assess the consequents of the DSI. To this end, a total of 276 works were identified in nine databases, of which 78 were included in the study work, generating 98 observations for a sample set of 40,641. The results showed significant relationships between the consequents: adoption of innovation, attitude, behavioral intention, product usage, opinion leader and risk perception. Furthermore, it was noted that the research method (survey vs. experimental) and the country of application (Western vs. Eastern) were moderating factors of the relationships between DSI, opinion leader and behavioral intention

    Noise Characteristics Improvements for a New Generation of Variable Capacity Compressor using Linear Motor Technology

    The household appliances market noise levels requirements have rapidly increased in the last years. Despite the traditional approach for defining noise requirements focused on steady-state sound power levels, the transient noise is becoming a key factor in defining sound quality specification. Variable speed compressor technologies lead to a significant advantage on this aspect since in standard operation conditions the compressor runs at relatively low speeds for most of the time. Linear motor driven reciprocating compressors present great advantages since this technology allows dealing with cooling capacity variation without changing the motor speed. This allows also easier and more effective design of lower noise generation. This paper presents the benefits of the variable capacity, linear motor driven reciprocating compressors over rotary motor driven reciprocating compressors, either at variable capacity and fixed speeds. Emphasis is given to the physical phenomena and engineering advantages of the linear motor concept

    Siblings Diagnosed With Primary Neuroendocrine Tumor of the Left Hepatic Duct

    Primary left hepatic duct neuroendocrine tumors are extremely rare. We describe 2 cases of siblings, a 51-year-old brother and a 48-year-old sister, who were both diagnosed with primary left hepatic duct neuroendocrine tumor. Both patients underwent successful left hepatectomy and are both alive with no recurrence. For this rare malignancy, while definitive diagnosis is made only by histopathology, a margin-free surgical resection remains the only curative treatment modality to date
