Co-optimized analysis of electric and natural gas infrastructures

This dissertation proposes and implements a long-term capacity expansion model for the co-optimization of electric and natural gas infrastructures. It allows to determine the required investments in generation units, transmission lines and pipelines for meeting future demands, while representing electricity and natural gas flows using steady state equations. A Mixed Integer Nonlinear Programming problem is developed, from which a linearized version is derived. A twenty six node integrated electric-gas system for the Eastern Region of the United States is used to demonstrate the model\u27s capabilities. Results show that the model provides an accurate operational representation of the integrated system, and therefore, enhances the expansion planning process

Simple mathematical approach to solar cell/panel behavior based on datasheet information

new explicit mathematical expression is used to describe the behavior of a photovoltaic device (solar cell/panel), that is, its I-V curve, based on the characteristic points normally included in the manufacturers’ datasheets. This expression consists of two simple equations, one for voltage levels lower than the voltage at the maximum power point, V Vmp. The first equation is defined with two of the three characteristic points (short circuit and maximum power points), whereas the second one is defined with the current and voltage levels at maximum power point, the open circuit voltage, and a constant that can be adjusted based on: 1) the best fitting to the data within the bracket [Vmp, Voc], or 2) one point within this bracket, or 3) the slope of the I-V curve at the open circuit point, or 4) an estimation of that slope. Results of the solar cell/panel behavior analysis obtained with the proposed methodology, are similar to the ones obtained with the well-known 1-diode/2-resistor equivalent circuit model, in terms of accuracy

Some developments on cup anemometer aerodynamics

In the present study the geometry of cups is experimentally studied through anemometer performance. This performance is analyzed in two different ways. On the one hand the anemometer transfer function between cases is compared. On the other hand the stationary rotation speed is decomposed into constant and harmonic terms, the comparison being established between the last ones. Results indicate that some cup shapes can improve the uniformity of anemometer rotation, this fact being important to reduce degradation due to ageing

Inclusión de televisión, radio y contenidos multimedia en las aplicaciones móviles oficiales de los clubes de fútbol

La radio, la televisión, y los contenidos multimedia, son empleados por los clubes de fútbol de élite, como medios esenciales a la hora de dirigirse a sus seguidores y simpatizantes, siendo una parte fundamental de la comunicación y abriendo nuevas posibilidades, a través de las posibilidades que ofrecen las aplicaciones móviles oficiales de estas entidades, que son también un medio que ayuda a cumplir con los objetivos de los mismos, más allá de la web 2.0 y las cuentas oficiales en redes sociales que gestionan los profesionales de los departamentos de comunicación de los clubes. Los medios analizados, funcionan para que estas entidades mantengan el seguimiento mediático y la repercusión en sus diferentes públicos. La metodología del estudio, se ha basado en el método hipotético-deductivo, utilizando fundamentalmente la técnica del análisis de contenido, y clasificando la utilización o no, de la televisión online, la radio online, o los contenidos multimedia, como secciones de la aplicación móvil oficial de los clubes de fútbol seleccionados en la muestra de la investigación. Los resultados muestran grandes diferencias en la utilización de estos novedosos contenidos por parte de estas entidades del mundo del deporte. El estudio puede resultar de gran interés para el desarrollo y la gestión estratégica de la comunicación móvil en las organizaciones del mundo del fútbol

The parking building has mechanisms and moving parts necessary to make parking maneuvers. All mechanical design and required movements are thought for the user, it should easily operate the system without a complex guide.Desde de la invención del automóvil en 1885, aparece la necesidad de disponer, entre otras cosas, de un espacio en varios lugares para poder dejarlo temporalmente. Con el pasar de los años, la demanda de estacionamientos se ha incrementado significativamente en las ciudades y es allí donde surge la propuesta de satisfacer con plazas de parqueo en espacios reducidos a un creciente parque automotor. El edificio de estacionamientos dispone de mecanismos y partes móviles necesarias para realizar las maniobras de parqueo. Magnetic Attitude Control for Satellites in Polar or Sun-Synchronous Orbits

In this work, a new law for magnetic control of satellites in near-polar orbits is presented. This law has been developed for the UMPSat-2 microsatellite, which has been designed and manufactured by Universidad Politécnica de Madrid, Madrid. The control law is a modification of the B-dot strategy that enables the satellite to control the rotation rate. Besides, the satellite?s equilibrium state is characterized by having the rotation axis perpendicular to the orbit?s plane. The control law described in the present work only needs magnetometers and magnetorquers, as sensors and actuators, respectively, to carry out a successful attitude control on the spacecraft. A description of the analysis is included. Performance and applicability of the proposed method have been demonstrated by control dynamics together with Monte Carlo techniques and by implementing the control law in the UPMSat-2 mission simulator. Results show good performance in terms of acquisition and stability of the satellite rotation rate and orientation with respect to its orbit?s plane

New method for analytical photovoltaic parameter extraction

Correct modeling of the equivalent circuits regarding solar cell and panels is today an essential tool for power optimization. However, the parameter extraction of those circuits is still a quite difficult task that normally requires both experimental data and calculation procedures, generally not available to the normal user. This paper presents a new analytical method that easily calculates the equivalent circuit parameters from the data that manufacturers usually provide. The analytical approximation is based on a new methodology, since methods developed until now to obtain the aforementioned equivalent circuit parameters from manufacturer's data have always been numerical or heuristic. Results from the present method are as accurate as the ones resulting from other more complex (numerical) existing methods in terms of calculation process and resources

On the harmonic analysis of cup anemometer rotation speed: A principle to monitor performance and maintenance status of rotating meteorological sensors

The calibration results of one anemometer equipped with several rotors, varying their size, were analyzed. In each case, the 30-pulses pert turn output signal of the anemometer was studied using Fourier series decomposition and correlated with the anemometer factor (i.e., the anemometer transfer function). Also, a 3-cup analytical model was correlated to the data resulting from the wind tunnel measurements. Results indicate good correlation between the post-processed output signal and the working condition of the cup anemometer. This correlation was also reflected in the results from the proposed analytical model. With the present work the possibility of remotely checking cup anemometer status, indicating the presence of anomalies and, therefore, a decrease on the wind sensor reliability is revealed

Actualmente la persuasión asociada al mensaje publicitario puede quedar oculta entre la variedad de piezas que forman una campaña publicitaria. El mensaje se adapta al tipo de soporte en el que está insertado y puede llegar al público objetivo a través de múltiples plataformas. En la era digital la adaptación de los mensajes a cada uno de sus soportes es posible sin suponer un incremento destacable en el coste de la campaña. Los receptores de los mensajes ya no están obligados a recibir los mismos de forma lineal. Aparece el concepto de interactividad que permite al target fluir a través de los distintos medios en busca de los diferentes textos y convertirse a su vez en difusores de los mismos a través de las redes sociales. En esta investigación se va a analizar la campaña integrada I like to play de Sony Playstation®, en la que se han empleado distintos medios y soportes para llegar al target y lograr los objetivos planteados por la agencia y el anunciante. Con este estudio se pretende averiguar si esta campaña se puede considerar como un caso de campaña transmedia o si se trata de un campaña crossmedia. Para ello delimitaremos conceptualmente estos términos y analizaremos las diferentes piezas que conforman la campaña además de generar un cuestionario dirigido a padres con niños pequeños para tratar de establecer el canal de comunicación por el que han conocido la campaña.Persuassion associated with advertising message can be hidden from the variety of advertising campaign pieces nowadays. The message is adapted to the type of media on which is inserted and can reach the target audience across multiple platforms. In the digital era adapting messages to each medium is possible without assuming a remarkable increase in the cost of the campaign. Users are no longer required to receive the messages linearly. The concept of interactivity allows the target flow through the different media as behaving as «broadcasters » through social networks. This research will analyze the integrated I like to play Sony Playstation® campaign, which have been used different media to reach the target and achieve the goals set by the agency and the advertiser. This study aims to find out if this campaign can be seen as a case of transmedia campaign or if it is a crossmedia campaign. We will define conceptually these terms and analyze the different pieces that compose the campaign and to generate a questionnaire for parents with small children to try to establish the communication channel by they have known the campaign

La productividad científica sobre MOOC, aproximación bibliométrica 2012-2016 a través de SCOPUS

Los Massive Online Open Courses (MOOC) han supuesto un hito en la educación online en los últimos cinco años. La proliferación de cursos y plataformas para su difusión han hecho que el fenómeno no sólo sea un punto de reflexión educativa, social y política, sino que también pase a la esfera académica como objeto de investigación. El presente estudio analiza la productividad científica del fenómeno MOOC a partir del análisis de 752 publicaciones indexadas en la base de datos SCOPUS en el periodo 2012-2016. Los datos extraídos permiten realizar una radiografía global del estado del fenómeno, la evolución que ha sufrido en los últimos años, el tipo de publicaciones que sustentan el fenómeno, los principales países y fuentes productores de información sobre MOOC, las principales filiaciones implicadas, los autores y trabajos más citados, así como un análisis de co-citación que permite vislumbrar los trabajos más destacados sobre el fenómeno. Por lo tanto, el presente estudio ofrece un marco complementario a diversos estudios existentes de carácter nacional e internacional que intentan ofrecer y explicar la configuración del mapa de la ciencia alrededor del fenómeno MOOC
