Four dimensions to induce learning: The challenge profile.

Knowledge generation is critical for company survival and managers need to face a new role: becoming educators. This requires an understanding of how knowledge is generated and what triggers individual learning. We propose that each individual has a personal predisposition to use a particular learning profile. Our findings show the Educational Dimensions Portfolio (EDP) as a gallery of profiles that match each individual's problem-solving challenge. A manager-educator can use the EDP model for triggering individual learning. We have verified, using statistical methods, that there are four EDP dimensions. They are related to both David Kolb's and Peter Honey's learning styles. We have verified that each individual has a personal predisposition to use a particular profile. We call it the challenge profile. Entendemos que en el proceso de producción del discurso el agente social (en el rol escritor) realiza, no siempre de manera consciente, una serie de opciones, selecciones y desarrolla un conjunto de estrategias discursivas que se explican por el lugar social desde el cual se produce el discurso. Por ello, la labor de docencia e investigación de la Universidad debe formar parte de las políticas de Estado ya que desde una dinámica operativa, la población espera que sus Gobiernos vehiculizen los intereses comunes que tiendan a sus primigenias necesidades así como al bienestar genera

Zooplankton richness, abundance and biomass of two hypertrophic shallow lakes with different salinity

The zooplankton of lakes is controlled by biological and physico-chemical parameters. Among the former, predation by fish can determine the replacement of large-sized species by small-sized ones and among the latter, salinity exerts negative effects on richness and abundance. Since it has been suggested that saline lakes without fishes have higher zooplankton biomass than low salinity ones, the aim of this study was to determine the richness, abundance and biomass of zooplankton in two lakes with different salinity and test the hypothesis that in the presence of zooplanktivorous fishes and at equal concentrations of nutrients and chlorophyll a, saline lakes have higher biomass than those with low salinity. The study was conducted in two shallow lakes of the Province of La Pampa (central Argentina): a subsaline lake and a hyposaline lake, which shared high concentrations of chlorophyll a and total phosphorus, reduced transparency and presence of planktivorous fish. Zooplankton richness was different and higher in the subsaline lake, whereas abundance and total biomass were similar, even when the taxonomic groups were considered separately. It is suggested that the presence of a halotolerant planktivorous fish controlled the size of zooplankton due to the predation on larger species and prevented the development of higher biomass in the saline lake, which is an important difference from previously recorded situations. This study shows that, regardless of the differences in salinity, the top-down effect in the food chain may have been a factor that equalized the zooplankton biomass by allowing only the development of small species and highlights the possible importance of fish predation in determining chlorophyll a concentrations and water transparency.Fil: Echaniz, Santiago Andrés. Parrhesía cínica e Bíos Kunikos : Desplazamientos del lugar del cuerpo en El Coraje de la Verdad

Nos proponemos en este ensayo discutir los desplazamientos del lugar del cuerpo en el contexto del último curso dictado por Michel Foucault en el Collège de France en el año 1984. Particularmente nos interesan los modos en los cuales, en virtud de la singularidad de la parrhesía cínica, el cuerpo adquiere el estatuto de ser el lócus en el cual la vida como escándalo se realiza. Además, nos instiga comprender la manera en que ese movimiento permite al pensador francés radicalizar su apuesta por una filosofía de la inmanencia, en la cual vida, subjetividad y verdad se con-fundan, y se co-fundan. Consideramos que el concepto de bíos kynikós es una herramienta teórica importante por sus cuatro valores: la no-disimulación - la vida vivida sin vergüenza, la pureza en cuanto pobreza radical, la vida recta porque conforme a la naturaleza, como la vida animal, y, la soberanía (de sí) que le permite al cínico solamente depender sólo de sí y ser más soberano que cualquier monarca. En ese movimiento conceptual buscamos captar los desplazamientos en el modo de concebir al cuerpo operados por el autor entre el bíos philosophikos, característico del platonismo-estoicismo-epicurismo, rumbo al bíos kynikós del cinismo. Self-consistent physical parameters for MC clusters from CMD modelling: application to SMC clusters observed with the SOAR telescope

The Magellanic Clouds (MCs) present a rich system of stellar clusters that can be used to probe the dynamical and chemical evolution of these neighboring and interacting irregular galaxies. In particular, these stellar clusters (SCs) present combinations of age and metallicity that are not found for this class of objects in the Milky Way, being therefore very useful templates to test and to calibrate integrated light simple stellar population (SSP) models applied to unresolved distance galaxies. On its turn, the age and metallicity for a cluster can be determined spatially resolving its stars, by means of analysis of its colour-magnitude diagrams (CMDs). In this work we present our method to determine self-consistent physical parameters (age, metallicity, distance modulus and reddening) for a stellar cluster, from CMDs modelling of relatively unstudied SCs in the Small Magellanic Cloud (SMC) imaged in the BVI filters with the 4.1 m SOAR telescope. Our preliminary results confirm our expectations that come from a previous integrated spectra and colour analysis: at least one of them (Lindsay 2) is an intermediate-age stellar cluster with ~ 2.6 Gyr and [Fe/H] ~ -1.3, being therefore a new interesting witness regarding the reactivation of the star formation in the MCs in the last 4 Gyr.Comment: 4 pages, 2 figures. Thermally assisted interlayer magnetic coupling through Ba0.05Sr0.95TiO3 barriers

We report on the interlayer exchange coupling across insulating barriers observed on Ni80Fe20/Ba0.05Sr0.95TiO3/La0.66Sr0.33MnO3 (Py/BST0.05/LSMO) trilayers. The coupling mechanism has been analyzed in terms of the barrier thickness, samples' substrate, and temperature. We examined the effect of MgO (MGO) and SrTiO3 (STO) (001) single-crystalline substrates on the magnetic coupling and also on the magnetic anisotropies of the samples in order to get a deeper understanding of the magnetism of the structures. We measured a weak coupling mediated by spin-dependent tunneling phenomena whose sign and strength depend on barrier thickness and substrate. An antiferromagnetic (AF) exchange prevails for most of the samples and smoothly increases with the barrier thicknesses as a consequence of the screening effects of the BST0.05. The coupling monotonically increases with temperature in all the samples and this behavior is attributed to thermally assisted mechanisms. The magnetic anisotropy of both magnetic components has a cubic symmetry that in the case of permalloy is added to a small uniaxial component.Fil: Carreira, Santiago José. Actividades que desvirtúan en rol del enfermero en los centros de salud del departamento de San Martín, Mendoza

Si bien es cierto que todos los enfermeros de centros de salud, recibieron una preparación similar a cualquier otro profesional de enfermería, no a todos les toca desempeñarse en igualdad de condiciones y es allí donde la diversidad de situaciones pone a prueba sus capacidades y habilidades para resolver problemas y las destrezas comunitarias sociales y de liderazgo. El enfermero que cumple funciones en un centro de salud tiene diferentes fines a cumplir: el primero es el tratamiento de enfermedades para lograr la recuperación de la salud y el segundo, está vinculado a la prevención y a la concientización; aquí lo que se pretende es educar a la población sobre los riesgos de algunas enfermedades y sobre cómo prevenirlas. Con esto los enfermeros ponen sus servicios y conocimientos al alcance de cada individuo, de cada familia y de cada comunidad. Pero muchas veces estas funciones se ven desvirtuadas debido a que el profesional debe realizar tareas ajenas a su labor como son tareas de limpieza, labores de mantenimiento y traslado de elementos y medicamentos o administrativas. ANTIPROLIFERATIVE AND APOPTOTIC EFFECTS OF FICUS PSEUDOPALMA BLANCO (MORACEAE) AGAINST HEPATOCARCINOMA (HepG2)

Objectives.Hepatocellular carcinoma is the third most frequent cause of cancer-related death in the Philippines.  The prevalence of this disease continuously pose a great challenge to the medical and health sectors of the country, especially in discovering safe, efficacious and cheap alternative medicines with less or no adverse side effects.  Among our endemic medicinal plant species that belong to Moraceae family, Ficus pseudopalma remains understudied.  To our knowledge, there are no reports into the molecular mechanisms underlying the growth inhibitory effects of F.  pseudopalma against hepatocellular carcinoma.  We provided evidence that F.  pseudopalma enhances apoptotic cell death of HepG2, specifically targeting DNA damage. Methods. To assess the apoptotic and genotoxic abilities of the plant extract, trypan blue exclusion test, MTT, Comet, TUNEL and Caspase-3 activations assays were performed.  Results. Results showed that the crude extract of F. pseudopalma dose-dependently inhibited cell growth of HepG2 recording an IC50 of 353.342µg/mL.  Interestingly, all assays indicated apoptotic DNA fragmentation of HepG2 cells at concentrations of 300µg/ml and 1000µg/ml.  In particular, changes in morphological features such as aggregation of chromatin, cell shrinkage, and formation of apoptotic bodies were also observed in treated HepG2 cells.Conclusion. The data strongly suggest that F. pseudopalma may be used as an alternative, natural, cheap, readily available, and potent cancer chemoprotective agent by inhibiting cell growth and promoting cell death.  The study provides the first molecular evidence on the plant that induces apoptosis for the development of phytotherapeutic regimen for cancer prevention or treatment. Keywords:Ficus pseudopalma, cytotoxicity, apoptosis, Comet assay, TUNEL assay, caspase assa
