One of the main reasons for environmental disturbances such as declination in pasture productivity and biodiversity losses is the high infestation of herbaceous weeds, generally referred to as “Juquira” in the Amazon region. If they are not adequately controlled, such infestation might lead to degradation of pasture, resulting in complete loss of productivity and subsequent abandonment of the area. In this sense, this chapter aims to describe the main invasive species present in the Amazon region, as well as to characterize both the old and innovative techniques of use in agriculture, in large and small scale, for the control of agricultural pests

In recent years, research has been carried out to establish standardized protocols for arthrocentesis in temporomandibular disorders (TMD). The objective of this research is to determine the appropriate use and methodology for these minimally invasive and low-cost techniques, which can be performed with or without sedation under local anesthesia. Therefore, the aim of this study is to review the various arthrocentesis techniques used in temporomandibular joint (TMJ) disorders, along with their restrictions, potential mechanisms of action and complications. To carry out this study, electronic searches were carried out in bibliographic databases such as PubMed, Scielo, BVS and Google Scholar, focusing on articles published between 2015 and 2024. Only articles written in English and Portuguese were included, while those were not related to the topic or those who had promises to pay were excluded. In conclusion, further research is possible to determine which arthrocentesis technique provides the greatest benefits with minimal risks to the patient's health and well-being, given that all of the techniques described in this study have their pros and cons. It is up to the Dental Surgeon to take responsibility and study which technique will be best for his patient.

The act of engaging a child in sexual activity without their full understanding or ability to provide informed consent is what constitutes child sexual abuse. It is essential that dental surgeons who treat children and adolescent patients are attentive to identifying indicators and behaviors that may indicate abuse, leading to legal consequences for the aggressor. With this objective in mind, the present study seeks to provide a comprehensive overview of the existing literature on dental benefits in cases where child sexual abuse is suspected. After conducting a comprehensive review of the literature, it became evident that child sexual abuse is a social problem that often goes unreported, resulting in physical and psychological harm to the victim. It is essential to carefully evaluate any suggestive injuries, especially those occurring in the head and neck region, considering the child's report and, if necessary, interviewing their guardian separately.

The occurrence of dental fractures is characterized by the rupture of dental tissue, resulting in a visible line of discontinuity that can manifest itself in different orientations. The objective of this study is to seek an answer, through the literature, whether cone beam computed tomography (CBCT) can be used to diagnose root fractures (RF). To answer this question, an extensive literature review was carried out using electronic databases. Search terms included “cone beam computed tomography,” “endodontics,” “root fracture,” and their corresponding English equivalents. Only articles relevant to the topic and published between 2015 and 2024 were selected. The results indicate that CBCT is the most effective imaging technique for detecting RF, with an ideal size, producing ideal results. However, it is essential that the Dental Surgeon (DC) acquires knowledge about the examination process to accurately interpret the results and determine when it is necessary to request a CT scan.

Biodiversity loss is one of the main challenges of our time,1,2 and attempts to address it require a clear un derstanding of how ecological communities respond to environmental change across time and space.3,4 While the increasing availability of global databases on ecological communities has advanced our knowledge of biodiversity sensitivity to environmental changes,5–7 vast areas of the tropics remain understudied.8–11 In the American tropics, Amazonia stands out as the world’s most diverse rainforest and the primary source of Neotropical biodiversity,12 but it remains among the least known forests in America and is often underrepre sented in biodiversity databases.13–15 To worsen this situation, human-induced modifications16,17 may elim inate pieces of the Amazon’s biodiversity puzzle before we can use them to understand how ecological com munities are responding. To increase generalization and applicability of biodiversity knowledge,18,19 it is thus crucial to reduce biases in ecological research, particularly in regions projected to face the most pronounced environmental changes. We integrate ecological community metadata of 7,694 sampling sites for multiple or ganism groups in a machine learning model framework to map the research probability across the Brazilian Amazonia, while identifying the region’s vulnerability to environmental change. 15%–18% of the most ne glected areas in ecological research are expected to experience severe climate or land use changes by 2050. This means that unless we take immediate action, we will not be able to establish their current status, much less monitor how it is changing and what is being lostinfo:eu-repo/semantics/publishedVersio
