Structural, optical, and luminescence properties of ZnO:Ga optical scintillation ceramic
This paper discusses the characteristics of ZnO and ZnO:Ga ceramics fabricated by uniaxial hot pressing. The short-wavelength transmission limit of zinc oxide ceramics is in the 370-nm region; the long-wavelength limit is determined by the free-charge-carrier concentration and lies in the interval from 5 to 9 μm. The total transmittance of such ceramics in the visible and near-IR regions is about 70% when the sample is 0.5 mm thick. The luminescence spectrum is represented by a broad emission band with maximum at 580 nm, having a defect nature. The introduction of 0.03–0.1 mass % gallium into the zinc oxide structure inhibits grain growth and increases the free-charge-carrier concentration to 3.44 × 1019 cm−3. As the gallium concentration increases in the range 0.05–0.1 mass % in a ceramic of composition ZnO:Ga, the defect luminescence band is suppressed and a characteristic exciton luminescence is formed with a maximum corresponding to 389 nm and a damping time constant of 1.1 ns.Russian Foundation for Basic Research (RFBR) (18-52-76002); Institute of Solid State Physics, University of Latvia as the Center of Excellence has received funding from the European Union’s Horizon 2020 Framework Programme H2020-WIDESPREAD-01-2016-2017-TeamingPhase2 under grant agreement No. 739508, project CAMART
Polymer-salt synthesis and study on structure of vanadium-doped yttrium-aluminum garnet
Nanoscaled YAG:V powders were synthesized using low-temperature polymer-salt method. A comparison of their structure with monocrystals structure was performed. Structure, morphology and chemical composition of materials were studied using XRD, SEM and energy-dispersive X-ray spectroscopy. Estimation of average sizes of nanocrystals and crystal cell parameters was performed based on XRD data. The results were compared with the results obtained earlier for YAG:V monocrystals. Nanopowders synthesized at 1000 °C consist from microscopic aggregates of YAG:V nanocrystals with average size of 43 nm and crystal structure characteristic for YAG monocrystals. It was found that V3+ incorporation and their substitution of aluminum ions leads to distortion of crystal cell. It was shown that this phenomenon is observed both in YAG:V monocrystals and nanopowders synthesized using low-temperature polymer-salt method. The infrared spectroscopy data shows the similarity of the monocrystal and nanopowders structure. Obtained powders can be applied for fabrication of light-absorbing optical ceramics and organo-inorganic composites
The Groebke-Blackburn-Bienayme Reaction
Imidazo[1,2a]pyridine is a well‐known scaffold in many marketed drugs, such as Zolpidem, Minodronic acid, Miroprofen and DS‐1 and it also serves as a broadly applied pharmacophore in drug discovery. The scaffold revoked a wave of interest when Groebke, Blackburn and Bienaymé reported independently a new three component reaction resulting in compounds with the imidazo[1,2‐a]‐heterocycles as a core structure. During the course of two decades the Groebke Blackburn Bienaymé (GBB‐3CR) reaction has emerged as a very important multicomponent reaction (MCR), resulting in over a hundred patents and a great number of publications in various fields of interest. Now two compounds derived from GBB‐3CR chemistry received FDA approval. To celebrate the first 20 years of GBB‐chemistry , we present an overview of the chemistry of the GBB‐3CR, including an analysis of each of the three starting material classes, solvents and catalysts. Additionally, a list of patents and their applications and a more in‐depth summary of the biological targets that were addressed, including structural biology analysis, is given

Diels–Alder Cycloadditions of Bio-Derived Furans with Maleimides as a Sustainable «Click» Approach towards Molecular, Macromolecular and Hybrid Systems
This mini-review highlights the recent research trends in designing organic or organic-inorganic hybrid molecular, biomolecular and macromolecular systems employing intermolecular Diels–Alder cycloadditions of biobased, furan-containing substrates and maleimide dienophiles. The furan/maleimide Diels–Alder reaction is a well-known process that may proceed with high efficiency under non-catalytic and solvent-free conditions. Due to the simplicity, 100% atom economy and biobased nature of many furanic substrates, this type of [4+2]-cycloaddition may be recognized as a sustainable “click” approach with high potential for application in many fields, such as fine organic synthesis, bioorganic chemistry, material sciences and smart polymers development
