The Simulation Triad

This chapter contributes to the discussion on how best to theorise relationships among learning preferences, simulations, role plays and games as modes for learning. It describes the development of a framework called the Simulation Triad which is used to better define online role play by positioning it in relation to simulation and games as a teaching method. For designers of online simulations, the Simulation Triad, and the complementary Design Space Framework, will illustrate design choices around problems, rules and roles, clarifying that designs for role-based simulation emphasise interaction between roles to resolve a problem rather than focus on rules that solve a problem. The examples in this chapter will demonstrate how role-based simulation, with its emphasis on student-to-student interaction and group work to research authentic problems, is a learning design for transforming university teaching into learning

Formalising the description of learning designs

This paper describes an activity being undertaken by researchers involved in the AUTC funded Project: Information and Communication Technologies and Their Role in Flexible Learning. The project is seeking to investigate and develop generic and reusable frameworks for the provision of technology-enhanced high quality learning experiences in higher education. To achieve this, the researchers have been exploring ways to formalise generic descriptions of some learning designs that foster knowledge construction and problem solving. This paper provides a summary of the work that has been undertaken and describes the generic descriptions that have been developed in this process

Vicissitudes in the protection of the tourist packages customer in Colombia

RESUMEN: La industria turística en Colombia ha crecido de manera significativa en los últimos años y, en particular, la oferta de paquetes turísticos que responde a una modalidad contractual compleja, tanto en su configuración como en las dificultades que pueden surgir para el usuario. En este artículo se pretende dar cuenta de la reflexión sobre la protección efectiva con que cuenta el usuario de planes turísticos en Colombia, al considerar que la normativa especial que tiene el sector turístico resulta insuficiente para lograr un real amparo ante las vicisitudes que enfrenta el consumidor. Para tal fin, mediante el uso predominante de fuentes primarias de información, se presenta un contexto general de los paquetes turísticos en Colombia, las dificultades que enfrenta el usuario y la protección normativa que existe en esta materia.ABSTRACT: The tourist industry in Colombia has grown significantly in recent years. Particularly, the supply of tourist packages which attend to a complex contractual arrangement, both in their configuration and in the difficulties that could arise for the customer. The purpose of this paper is to reflect on the effective protection for the customer of tourism plans in Colombia, considering that the special regulations on the touristic sector are inadequate to achieve a real protection against the vicissitudes that the consumer faces. To this aim, through the predominant use of primary sources of information, this paper will present the general context of the tourist packages in Colombia, the difficulties that the customers face and the normative protection that exists in this area

The allied contracting and the relativity effects on contracts applied to the tourist package contracts in Colombia

RESUMEN: Este artículo tiene como propósito evidenciar la configuración de una nueva excepción al efecto relativo de los negocios jurídicos, mediante el análisis de la figura de la contratación conexa aplicada a los contratos de paquetes turísticos celebrados en Colombia. Para ello se realiza, en primer lugar, un acercamiento a las relaciones que se establecen en la conexidad contractual, entre empresarios y con los usuarios. En segundo lugar, se presenta una caracterización del contrato de paquete turístico en Colombia. Para concluir, en tercer lugar, con un análisis de la relatividad de los efectos de los negocios en los contratos conexos de servicios turísticos. Se trata de una investigación cualitativa documental que privilegia el uso de fuentes primarias de información, mediante las cuales se presentan las complejidades de este fenómeno de la contratación privada contemporánea, las discusiones sobre los alcances de los efectos del negocio jurídico de servicios turísticos y la tendencia hacia una mayor protección de los usuarios y consumidores, que podría estar originando una nueva excepción a la relatividad negocial.ABSTRACT: This paper has as purpose to establish the rise of a new exception to the relativity effect on contracts by the analysis of the allied contracting figure applied to package tourist contracts held in Colombia. For it, it will be firstly done an approach to the relations established in the allied contracts conclude between entrepreneurs and users. Secondly, a characterization of the tourist package contract in Colombia will be presented. To conclude thirdly with an analysis of the relativity effects arisen on allied contracts for tourist services. This article contains a qualitative documental research that favors the use of primary sources of information, whereby is presented the complexities of this phenomenon on contemporary private contracting, the discussions about the reach of effects on tourist services contract and the tendency that exist towards a major protection of the users and consumers that could be creating a new exception to relativity effects on contracts
